Daniel Batkin, Simon Brackstone, Dave Lattimore, Kaylyn McBrearty Minutes from last meeting: Verified as true and accurate: Macca Roche 2nd by Dave Rider Correspondence in: Request for Food Hygiene Certificate for A&P Show done s to stay in the Caples Hut, quite busy over holidays. from Geoff Stoddart re asking about 1080 in the Caples, have referred to DOC Change of address request, so just for info here is the link to do it if you need to. Invite for OSPRI s Otago Pest Control Demo Day 20th Nov in Cromwell, was sent out but no one available to go Correspondence out: Food Hygine cert and paperwork for A&P show s re Upper Caples and Greenstone hut bookings Financials: General account $5322, Hut account $1674, Term deposit $12124 Money recently banked for huts $515 and $30 from calendar sales Vice Presidents report: Quiet time of year not much to report General Business: Calendars issued last meeting for CORUF (Central Otago Recreational Users Forum) money now needed please pop money in the account if not paid yet. 3 November/December 2014 A & P Show Reminder that our annual fundraiser takes place on the 10th Jan at the Lake Hayes 100th A&P show. Nathan happy to help organize again, volunteers needed Possible able to help are Alan, Andy P, Nathan, Dave, Branden, Al, Pete H, Daniel, and Steve. Still need more help details later in how you can help River Safety Course planned for this w eekend by Dodgy cancelled due to lack of interest and poor weather Grant application has been received and phone call to Al confirmed looking good, final details to be firmed up. Watch this space we will need help for a working bee Cammo Aprons for the A&P show underw ay, Jane Henderson is making them and likely to be a few spare for sale. Cost of materials $ presented and motion to pay 1st Nathan, 2nd by Dion PO BOX: W ith the change of President, m otion put to the floor to purchase a PO Box for the club at the cost of $155. Agreed Dion, 2nd Macca Cost of beers for BBQ presented $110.94, motion to reimburse Sharon passed by Macca, 2nd Dave Rider Additional BBQ needed for Club, especially for Burger stands, Mark Salmons has 2nd hand one for sale, motion to purchase passed Dave Rider and Macca Venison needed as payment for use of Fire Station, Andy Pedley has some so agreed to sort enough for 40 pax for their Xmas BBQ coming up soon. Stoat Traps update We need more volunteers to help with the huts and checking the stoat traps. Mark McKay volunteered for sometime in January but more needed. the club if you are keen or able to help. Look at cost of fake eggs so we don t need to replace each time Page 3

4 New Zealand Deerstalkers Association Incorporated Southern Lakes Branch Hunts Report:- Branden Not been out Andy Pedley No Tim Whitiker Went to the Mt Creighton and Maori Gully as heli pilot said he d seen some, but after lots of bush bashing tired. Next morning missed one, then walked out for 4hours, asked other members if there is a better track. Discussed after the meeting Dodgy Pete Went to Kinloch, and a 4am start at the Kofai Creek. Saw a chamois while his mate was complaining he d not seen anything, so they dropped into Turner Creek. 100m shot as it ran towards Pete. (A spiker). While his mate ws butchering it, Pete glasses and saw some reds in some rough area, took shot 291m away up hill. But discovered it was a long way to go get it. Very difficult terrain and a challenge skinning it perched on the side of a hill. 9 1/2 Buck! Mark Only shot targets Lonneke No Jonno Went to Routeburn Station, shot a yearling, and like Pete had to bone it out on an awkward angle on the hill. Been out shooting rabbits but mainly working on his 4wd truck. Shaun Back from Dubai so headed to Tekapo and Rangitata area to the Growler Hut, great to get to as no river crossings but the hut was full so headed up the gully. Thinks there were about 8 ute loads of hunters in the Ragitata that weekend, popular spot! So bit of a grunt up to the saddle, set up the tent and saw 23 tahr. Crap weather snowing, friend wounded a tahr, so Shaun took 2nd shot to kill it. Young bull. Bad weather overnight and the next day so cleared out at lunchtime before the snow came in again. Got to hut having seen 35 tahr, went out on the 2nd evening and saw 83 tahr, shot 3 between Shaun and friend. Again steep area to skin and butcher. He recommends Growler Hut for tahr and it s 1 hour away, hares also on airstrip. Mark McK Yearling on Tuesday, and a spiker last night and some goats. See photo over page Page 4

5 November/December 2014 Nathan Nothing Dion Went to Cecil Peak, 1 of the 3 deer shot was by him, saw 20 deer in total Macca Mainly goats shot 4 Morgane Went out with Dave to Bullendale, they saw a billy goat so Dave made his best nanny call and he finally came nearer. Morgan got ready waiting for him then he appeared right by the hut only 5m away so she shot it. Easy as no distance to carry the meat. Alan M No but off to the Waitoto on Sunday Eon Not been out Sharon Nothing Al No although saw 3 stags at Diamond Lake while working Dave Headed to Dynamo junction to stay in the hut in Bullendale with Morgan. Saw some goat sign and saw 2 in the stream bed so shot 2 and 1 floated down the river. Saw a Billy on the skyline 280m away so called him in and Morgan shot him. 9 November/December th January 2015 Special 100th Show Lake Hayes A&P show Fundraiser Each year we have a venison burger stand at the A&P show and raise money for the club. This year is the 100th show and indications are it will be a big turnout and some big names attending. THEREFORE Volunteers are needed in a number of capacities A few weeks before to help organize collection of gear for show and order the food Day before help put the marquee up On the day, only 1-2 hours first thing to run around to collect salads and buns and deliver to show On the day we need at least 8 volunteers or more to help cook and serve End of the day, 3pm - 4pm help clear up and load up the trailer Any time to come visit us and buy a burger! Great family occasion If you can help in any of the above forms, can you the club or let Nathan Wise know on Friends, flat mates, partners of members always welcome too. Page 9

If local can pick up from Cromwell, Queenstown or Branch meetings. Or can be posted out, at cost. Made from hardwearing Codura fabric and elastic for ease of fit onto stock.
