If it was not the heat, it was the rain. This was the first time we have missed the Cincinnati British car show in the last ten years. Except for a very nice tech session on Thursday, I have not had either Healey out since the 4th of July activities. Speaking of a tech session, sorry if you missed the event on Fusor s Automotive Repair Adhesives put on by the factory representative. The event was last Thursday at Dick Lutin s ACS Sign business in near downtown Indy. The presentation certainly made believers out of many doubting Thomas in this crowd. I can see the usefulness in various areas on repairing (restoring) Healeys, primarily in the ability to adhere floor pans to frames without welding out the resulting distortion that sometimes occurs. Other areas and products were the structural foams that could help in strengthening the hood or possibly even curing scuttle shake. Certainly, I am apprehensive about chassis and suspension members, but it was a good presentation. September is approaching and with it the nicer Healey weather we all enjoy. Make time this year for any or all of several Healey events in the area including our own SeptemberFest on September 23rd and 24th. Lemon Creek Winery in Southern Michigan is another great destination. It is a one-day affair with a car show in the a.m. and an afternoon of music, food and wine. It is very relaxed and enjoyable. Miami Valley AHC s Fall Round-up is on Sept 30th - Oct 1st in Dayton. Another nice event with a lot of very nice Healey people. We plan to be there. Why don t you? Bill Coan will have a tech session on Tuesday, August 9th. Bill needs some more parts evaluation and maybe removal of some (which we are verrrrrrry good at). See you at the meeting at Logan s on August 16th. Keep the rubber side down. Jim Mr. Healey s Neighborhood Central IN AHC ~ciahc/ Bluegrass AHC Midwest Region AHC midwestah/club/ Ohio Valley AHC ovaustinhealey/ IN British Car Union Right: Their 100 was recently painted and back from Frank Wicker, so Jim & Sandy Burck held a tech session on July 27 to sort out a few nagging items related to engine timing, the overdrive and turn signal operation. (L to R) John Mann, Jim, Ron Francis, and Bob Haskell are busy with the timing.
3 CENTRAL INDIANA PAGE page 3 July Meeting Minutes Date and Place: July 19, 2005 at Santorini Greek Kitchen Attendees: Jim Alderson, Roy Bowman, David Broyles, Dick & Ruth Buis, Bill Coan & Sandy Ferguson, Jim Frakes, Margaret Finzen, Bob & Melanie Haskell, Dick & Charlotte Lutin, John Mann, Jon Monies, Brent Porter, Craig Rice, Jo Switzer After a social hour and dinner, Jim Frakes called us to order at 8:00 pm. Jim welcomed members and guests and thanked the Lutins for arranging our meeting at Santorinis with its great Greek food! June meeting minutes - were approved as published in OVERDRIVE. Treasurer/Membership Craig Rice reported on the balance of funds and that the membership is 64. Delegates Report no report Calendar Jim Frakes described Conclave 2005, in addition to his comments in his July President s Message. The July 17 Cincinnati show at Edgewater Park was attended by the Thomas and Bowman, winning 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 3000 class, the show s largest. Upcoming events include NIAHCA s Lemon Creek Brit Car Day on Sept 10th. SeptemberFest Sept Jim Frakes recommended the site be in Crawfordsville, which was affirmed by members in attendance. The Holiday Inn was suggested as a host hotel by Brent and Robyn Porter. The following were nominated or volunteered to chair certain areas of responsibility for this event. / Registration - Rices / Funkana - Switzers / Hospitality - Buis / Car Show - Dick Lutin and Ron Francis / Dinner - Jim Frakes and Jo Switzer / Rally - Dick Storrs / and Auction - Brent Porter/. Sample new front wing - David Broyles displayed a prototype carbon/fiberglass/syntactic resin sandwich BJ7-8 front wing he has fabricated from extensive original measurements. Advantages are its very light weight, rust-free characteristics and ding resistance. He is ready to accept orders on these and will then apply his process to earlier models fenders and the front shrouds! Contact him at debroyles@insightbb.com. Tech Sessions - Jim Burck will host a tech session to tune his newly restored 100 and attend to a variety of other items on July 26th. Dick Lutin has scheduled one for Aug 4 at his business, ACS Custom Neon, 1110 E 22nd, with a representative of Fusor to make a presentation about the uses of automotive adhesives. Bill Coan will have a follow-up tech session for his 100M at 5:30 on Aug 9th at his home. We adjourned about 9:15 pm. Next meeting at Logan s Roadhouse, 4825 E 82nd St, on Aug 16 at 6:30 pm. Right: The image of the sleek Healey Duncan appeared in thus ad in the Oct 24, 1947 issue ofthe Autocar, although the performance records of the sister car, the Healey Elliot were touted here such as an official mph timed speed. The Duncan, Elliot, Westland and other Healey models were powered by a 2.4 L Riley engine. Area Events continued from page 4 Below: At the Edgewater Park show, a dozen or so Healey 3000s were the one of the largest classes present. (See July Minutes above for some CIAHCA results at this show.)
