1 VETTE NEWS Volume 26, Issue 2 FEBRUARY 2007 President s Corner By the time you read this, the Officers and Board of Directors will have been sworn into office. I want to thank you for your support as we begin the 2007 Corvette season. I will do my best to fulfill the duties & responsibilities as President of COB. I joined COB for the same reasons that all of you did: 1. To meet other Corvette owners that shares a common interest in America s Greatest Sports car. 2. To learn more about Corvettes from fellow club Members 3. To make new friends and have Fun with our Corvettes 4. And to attend Shows, Cruise nights, and travel together in our Corvettes. The Corvettes of Buffalo has more than satisfied each of my reasons to join the club and then some. Along with the new friends we have met, the club has provided a social atmosphere that both Maureen and I have enjoyed since we joined. COB has proved NOT to be a bunch of Motor-heads or Wild & Crazy Baby Boomers! But a group of Corvette enthusiasts that enjoy all of the above including good food! The club has been blessed with some great Presidents, Officers and Board Members that have dedicated their time, energy, experience & enthusiasm to help make the club more enjoyable for every member. We have sound and practical By-Laws to provide guidelines and rules in running the club. I have been involved with the club as a Continued on pg 2 What s Happening Here s our new officers for 2007 February Pizza Party Following the February club meeting, there will be a Pizza Party at the Church on Main Street in Clarence, NY. The cost will be $2.50 per person for pizza, with the club sponsoring the wings & soft drinks. Maureen will be collecting the pizza money before the February meeting begins. See you at the meeting! Ruth Mussehl Meeting every second Saturday of the month at First Presbyterian Church 9875 Main St. Clarence, NY Meeting starts 7:00 p.m. Corvettes of Buffalo is open to all Corvette owners and enthusiasts over the age of 21 Visit us at Send Articles To: Jim Bonus, 1012 Castlebar Drive North Tonawanda, NY jwbonus@adelphia.net Submissions must be in by 24 th President s Corner Continued from pg 1 member, Officer and on the Board of Directors, and now I am honored to act as your President. I have had the benefit to attend many events as a COB member, and know first hand that the Corvettes of Buffalo is well represented at area events and enjoys a reputation as a first class quality club. I wear my COB logo with pride and know that each of you do the same, whether you re at a cruise night, car show or a trip to Bowling Green, KY. As the year begins, we have two annual club sponsored events that are being planned. COB will host both an All Corvette Caravan & Brunch Cruise and a GM Super Cruise at David Chevrolet on July 22 nd. We have two members that will help Co-Chair these two events. Pete Ricigliano will Co-Chair the GM Super Cruise and Bruce Mussehl will Co-Chair the Caravan & Brunch Cruise. I will be helping them as Co-chairman but will need help with the various event committees. For these events we count on all our COB members to volunteer & sign up for a task or job. As we finalize the details for each event, we will need various committees to help with tasks such as the 50/50, parking cars, Caravan captains, registration & handling the money, tabulation of award winners, etc.. In past years, COB member participation & attendance has been very good and I expect that tradition to continue this year. We do have much work to do in preparation for these events and I will need some committee chairpersons to help. The more help we get, early in the planning stages, will make them even more successful & more fun for everyone. Please see Pete, Bruce or myself (or any Board Member) to get involved and help. Thank You again for your involvement & participation in club activities. As you all know, this is Your Club and the more you get involved the more fun you will enjoy! Save the wave. 4 Lost Years My name is John Kock and I am Corvette enthusiast living near Toronto Ontario. I am writing to you in hopes that some of your club members may be able to help me shed some light on the past of my 1966 Corvette. I purchased it in the summer of Prior to that, it seems that it never left the Buffalo area. It may have even been owned by one of your members. I have uncovered all of its history except for a 10 year period from 1969 to I would greatly appreciate it if you could run an advertisement in your newsletter for me. I am offering a $ reward. I will gladly add an extra $ donation to your club if it leads me to any missing owners. By the way, I found it quite the coincidence that you refer to yourselves as COB. You see, I am a member of "Corvettes of Durham" and we call ourselves COD. Anyway, thank you in advance for your assistance. Happy Corvetting John Kock NCRS member Corvette History February 2, 1993: The term "STINGRAY" is registered as a trademark to GeneralMotors. February 19, 1994: Reeves Callaway decides to produce a modified Corvette to race at Le Mans, the first time for a Corvette in almost 20 years. February 20, 1954: The Ford Motor Company shows the Thunderbird two-seat convertible in Detroit. The Thunderbird is a major part of General Motors' decision to continue production of the Corvette. February, 1955: The basic design of the 1956 model Corvette is completed. February, 1966: At the Daytona Continental endurance race, Roger Penske's 1966 Corvette with 427 ci engine finishes first in GT class. February, 2000: The Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona is held in Florida. Chevrolet enters its two C5-R Corvette race cars. One places second, 31 seconds behing the winner. The other places 24th. $ Reward offered for information leading to me contacting 1969 to 1979 owners of this 1966 Corvette convertible. Bought new from Dick Kraetz Chevrolet. The top is down and wind in my face, Warm sunshine is welcomed as I speed up the pace. Then I woke from my nap, sitting in my chair, And realized it was February with snow everywhere! My C6 is covered and away from the snow, But like all COB ers it is ready to go. A cruise night, a car show or just out for ice cream, February is a month of Corvette dreams. Happy Valentines Days!
