5 May 2017 saw the launch of a new Contemporary Art Fair in Cheltenham that surprised everyone. People simply didn t know what to expect, says co-founder Anthony Wardle. Social media chatter was saying Wow...this is much bigger than we thought...much higher quality of art. One kind art collector was heard to say It s the best art fair outside London. Fresh: Art Fair is the brainchild of Eleanor Wardle, owner of Cheltenham s Paragon Gallery, and her father Anthony. The 2017 Fair was held over three days in the Centaur building at Cheltenham Racecourse, hosting 45 leading UK Galleries and showing 5,000 paintings alongside sculptures by 400 artists. For a first Fair, it was an enormous success, attracting 4,300 visitors from The Cotswolds, surrounding towns and cities, and much further afield. They bought over 500,000 worth of art. We knew we had some wonderful galleries, says Eleanor. With original prints and paintings, sculpture, ceramics and glass from 100 to 50,000, we knew we had something for everyone. But we had no idea how many people would come or what an amazing buzz it would create. Fresh: Art Fair has now established itself as a major player in the UK art fair calendar and is returning from 27 to 29 April this year. It will be a similar size and style with 31 of the best Exhibitors coming back, all of them with one or two new artists. There will be 15 outstanding new Exhibitors including 6 from the Cotswolds, among them the highly regarded Gallery Pangolin; the John Davies Gallery from Moreton-in-the-Marsh; and Art Salon, Bath. There will be a new outdoor Sculpture Park showing some 70 large sculptures by 15 artists. There will be bigger and better Fresh: Cafés, a Happy Hour on Friday evening with free wine, new painters and sculptors working live and new Talks each day. Fresh: Art Fair provides an opportunity to see a huge choice of extraordinary art in a couple of very pleasant hours. Tickets are only 6 on the door and 8 for two online. There is a Private View on the Thursday evening for which a limited number of tickets are available online. Less than an hour from Birmingham, it s easy to get to and there s unlimited free parking.
