Post Office Box 401 Ballarat 3353, or online ballaratshow.org.au via nominate.com.au 2. Entries must be submitted on the proper entry form (downloadable from ballaratshow.org.au) or available at the end of this booklet. 3. For Nominate problems phone their help desk on Correct entry fees must accompany entry forms. (GST Included in the stated entry fees. Cheques payable to BAPS). Entries received after closing date will not be processed. 5. Please write your entries clearly and supply all the information asked for. When entering animals, please give all details requested on the entry form. 6. Please ensure your correct postal address is given for confirmation of entries if required. 7. Prize money in the Hand Crafts & Flowers will be paid at the time of collection. All other sections will be paid as per the section details. 8. Exhibits may only be collected as stated or by arrangement with the Chief Steward of the relevant Sections or the Secretary. Times for collection detailed in the individual Section Regulations. 9. Carefully read the rules and instructions relating to your particular section entry to make sure that your entries are entered correctly in the appropriate classes. GST, ENTRY FEES & PRIZE MONEY The Ballarat Agricultural & Pastoral Society Inc is registered for GST. All entry fees include GST and the full amount is to be paid by exhibitors. General Entries must be made in WRITING on the Entry Forms, supplied by the Society & must be lodged with the Executive Officer, Ballarat Showgrounds. The age of all exhibits of all livestock must be set forth in each entry. 2. At the time of entry, the class & section in which it is intended to exhibit must be stated & signed by or for the Exhibitor. A Ticket for each exhibit must accompany the exhibit when placed, & no exhibit will be received without such ticket. The exhibitors must take proper care of the entry tickets. 3. The Society invites the exhibition of any other articles or animals than those enumerated, & certificates may be awarded by the Judges to those considered deserving, but no certificates can be awarded by the Judges for extra exhibits if the prize list contains a section in which the same can compete. 4. Full entry fee (GST Inc) must be paid at the time of lodging all entries & once paid will not be refunded. 5. The Committee is empowered to demand from any exhibitor a statutory declaration to the effect that any or all of his exhibits are made in conformity with these regulations, & in the event of the Committee being of the opinion that any exhibit is not so entered, it is authorised either to withhold the prize, if any, awarded to such exhibit, or to give it to the next highest competitor. 6. The Judges may award a second or third prize instead of a first one, or may withhold a prize altogether where there is only one exhibit or where the exhibits are not considered worthy. 7. No person shall be an exhibitor in section or sections in which he/she is a Judge or Steward. 8. The decision of the Judges shall be final & without appeal. 9. Section tickets DO NOT admit exhibitor to the ground, & must be produced with each exhibit. NO EXHIBITOR PASSES WILL BE ISSUED. 10. Any prize or prizes awarded by the Society at any of its exhibitions, & left unclaimed for a period of four months from the date of award, may be forfeited & cancelled by the Executive of this Society. 11. No industrial exhibit to be finally removed from the Exhibition before the hour of 4pm, on the last day of the Show, & no vehicle shall be admitted into the Showgrounds before 5pm, on that date for the removal of exhibits. 12. Every possible care will be taken of all exhibits, but no responsibility will be incurred by the Society. All Exhibits left in the Society s yard for a period of one month may be sold by the Society to defray expenses. 13. Only Authorised Persons will be admitted to the Judging Areas during Judging of any section, & it shall be the duty of the Stewards to prevent any persons interfering with the Judges, & if necessary, order the removal of such offender from Judging area. 14. Any infringement of these regulations will disqualify the exhibitor from taking a prize. 15. All competitors & exhibitors shall take part in competitions or attend at their exhibitions at their own risk; and in any case if any such exhibit, whilst on the Society s grounds, shall cause or be the cause of injury or damage to other exhibits, competitors or exhibitors, or to the person or property of any member of the Society or the general public, the owner or owners of such exhibits shall indemnify & keep indemnified the Society, its officers & members, property & effects from & against all damages, costs, claims expenses, or liabilities incurred in connection with such exhibits. 16. Any protest made against exhibitors for infringement of the rules connected with the Annual Exhibition must be lodged with the Director before the hour of 4pm, on the last day of the Show, & such protest shall be dealt with at the Show by the Disputes Committee or at some adjourned meeting of the Disputes Committee. Each protest must be accompanied with a deposit of $20, which sum shall be forfeited by the protester if the protest be found, after due investigation to be frivolous. 17. The Show will be open to Members who have paid their subscriptions for the current financial year on presenting the membership ticket at the entrance gate. The public will be admitted on each day of the Show from the advertised time & upon payment of the applicable charge. 18. In cases of dispute as to the construction of any of these regulations, the same shall be determined by the Executive of the Society. 19. Entries to the Show are accepted subject to the rules & regulations & bylaws of the Society & of the Show. 20. The entrant agrees to be bound by those rules & regulations & by-laws. 21. The entrant also agrees to abide by all decisions made by the Society, by the Group with which it is affiliated or by VAS Ltd pursuant to those rules & regulations & by-laws. 22. No decision so made shall be called into question by the entrant before any court or other body (whether or not of a similar nature to a court) whatsoever. 23. The Prize Ribbons will be recognised as follows: First Prize, Blue; Second Prize Red; Third Prize, White; Special Prize, Green. 24. All trophies of a perpetual nature will be retained at the Showgrounds. 25. In compliance with Government Johnes Disease regulations cattle, sheep and goat exhibitors must have clean exhibits and animal transportation and supply their own forage and water containers. 26. Unless otherwise specified, all exhibits other than arena competitions must on the day of entry, be the property of the exhibitor. 27. Competitors in all Sections (including Arenas) will compete at their own responsibility and risk. 28. The Ballarat A & P Society will be taking photographs which may be used on the Society website, facebook and other advertising etc. Your attendance is considered permission for the images to be used. SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR EXHIBITORS & SITEHOLDERS 1. Duty Of Care All competitors have a Duty of Care to avoid exposing themselves and others to unsafe situations that could lead to property damage or personal injury. All persons must comply with any reasonable request of BAPS representatives. 2. Direction Of Ballarat Agricultural & Pastoral Society Competitors must comply with any reasonable request of BAPS representatives. 3. First Aid During the Ballarat Show, St Johns Ambulance Vic provides First Aid Services. 4. Baps Emergency Facilities Fire fighting and other emergency equipment must not be removed or used for any other purpose. Missing or unserviceable equipment should be reported to Administration immediately. 5. Hazard & Incident Reporting Competitors must notify the Office Administration immediately of any hazards detected or incidents. Hazards or incidents are any situation that could result or has resulted in: a) the injury, illness or death of any person or animal b) the damage, destruction or loss of property 6. Waste Disposal All waste, including liquids must be disposed of responsibly. Storm drains must not be used for the disposal of waste. 7. Housekeeping All areas must be kept in clean and tidy order with clearly defined and available access and exit routes at all times. Build up of combustible waste must be avoided. 8. Slips, Trips & Falls Care must be taken to minimize trip hazards and obstacles that people may walk into. Avoid laying unprotected cables or pipes on or above paths, walkways or roads. 9. Media Comments The Executive Officer coordinates media comment about matters involving BAPS or the Showgrounds. 10. Smoking Smoking is not permitted at the Ballarat Showgrounds. 11. Electrical Equipment (a) Competitors should supply their own Safety Switch (RCD) for installation at each power outlet they use. (b) Extension cords must be earthed and all electrical appliances must be earthed or double insulated. Appliances must be in a sound working order. (c) The use of double adaptors is strictly prohibited Power boards must be fitted with current overload protection. (d) Radiant electric or gas heaters are prohibited. (e) Light sockets must not be used for any other purpose than for lighting. (f) No naked flame permitted. (g) All Exhibitor electrical items (including leads) must have a current tag. Page 2 Page 3

5 CATTLE SECTION BULLS All bulls exhibited must be led into the Showgrounds and led out for the Judge's inspection. Non-compliance with this condition will cause the animal to be disqualified. HOSES Exhibitors are required to provide own hoses. 12.7mm fittings (1/2 inch). ELECTRICAL LEADS All exhibitors electrical equipment including, but not limited to, extension leads, blowers, clippers etc. must be tested & have a current test tag attached. If leads are joined together they are also to be covered with a waterproof connector cover. JUNIOR CHAMPIONS Will be awarded to each breed provided that a minimum 15 head are exhibited and there is competition. Points will be allocated but not counted unless required to separate equal scores in Aggregate Awards. STRAW One small square bale of bedding straw per head will be provided. If you require extra straw, please bring your own. FEED CONTAINERS Exhibitors who are part of the MAP program must have feed containers, the top to be 450mm above ground level. VICTORIAN CATTLE a) All Victorian cattle are eligible for entry without special testing provided they are not from a herd located on a property under quarantine restrictions for Bovine Tuberculosis or Brucellosis. JOHNES DISEASE a) A current National Cattle Health Statement is to accompany entry forms. Please download from the cattle section of the Ballarat Show website or contact the Show Office. b) All exhibitors must provide the PIC number for the property where the show entries are located. c) All cattle must be ear tagged with an NLIS ear tag. They will be scanned during the show. d) All beef cattle must have a J BAS score of a minimum 6 com.au/wp-content/uploads/j-bas.pdf e) All dairy exhibitors must provide a correct Dairy Assurance Score PESTVIRUS All BEEF cattle being shown must be tested Pestivirus free by an authorized veterinary laboratory or veterinary officer. Please mark appropriate boxes on the National Cattle Health Statement. Pestivirus results for each animal must be supplied with entries. All male exhibits of beef and dual purpose cattle born on or before the 10 November 2017 shall be rung through the nose and at all times, shall be led by such ring. If, in the opinion of the Stewards or Society's officials, any bull is considered unsafe, such bull shall be placed under such control as directed by the Stewards or Society's officials. All females must be provided with effective halters and be thoroughly broken to lead. Each exhibitor is required to see that each of their exhibits is securely tethered in its stall. All exhibitors of beef cattle must provide neck straps or neck ropes, as well as halters for tethering their cattle. Every poll bull and every wholly or partially dehorned bull entered in beef and dual purpose sections must be securely tethered by an effective headstall in addition to a nose ring or neck strap or neck rope. If, in the opinion of the Senior Steward, any exhibits of stock are deemed to be dangerous, the owner of such exhibit or exhibits shall immediately, upon notice to that effect, remove such exhibit or exhibits from the Society's grounds. CLIPPING FRAMES There will be a maximum of four (4) clipping frames allowed in the BEEF shed at a cost of $50 per frame space. Allocation of the frames will be on a first in basis per entry forms received. They are to be used by the owner and at the owner's risk. Page 7

6 Only winners of ordinary classes are eligible to compete for a Championship. Championship Sashes will be awarded for each Breed. The Society reserves the right to combine or delete classes should entries be insufficient. CLASSES Will be available for the Feature Show and those Breeds which entered in the previous year s competition; however, competition is open to all registered Breeds. Group of Three (both sexes to be represented - owned by Exhibitor) - Excluding Feature shows. PRIZE MONEY All prize money can be collected at the main office after 1pm on Friday 9th & Sunday 11th November. LUNCH Will be available in the Cattle Pavilion Friday and Sunday. Tea and coffee is available from Friday provided by Meg Barry. Exhibitors are encouraged to bring their own reusable mugs. As Dairy Cattle are being shown on a Friday, dairy exhibitors are welcome to enter the shed anytime from Thursday onwards. Dairy exhibitors are required to be exited the shed by 2.30pm on Friday, to enable cleaning and disinfecting of shed for Beef exhibitors to come in. Beef exhibitors are able to enter the shed from 11pm on Friday night. If early arrival for beef exhibitors is required please contact the head steward to see if can be accommodated. The outside wash bay is available for use prior to the shed entry time. Cow or Heifer entered as "In Milk" can be transferred to "In Calf" if she has not calved prior to Judging Day and vice versa. BAPS has the right to split classes if need be. The registered number and name of animal must be stated on the entry form. Note ALL AGES AS AT 1ST JAN 2018 All Cattle exhibited must be registered with their respective Breed Society or Association is open to all Registered Breeds with the exception of the Children s Calves Section. Entry can be made on the entry form prior to the show, or by reporting to Meg Barry on the day of showing. Judging to commence at 2pm, prior to the bull and heifer classic classes. Judging for dairy sections of Junior handlers will be on Friday 10th November at the conclusion of interbreed judging. JUDGING To be judged taking into account the presentation, handling and general stockmanship. Eligibilty for entry will be determined by the Stewards. Age of Parader must be 8 years & over as of the day of the Show. Parader must be attired in suitable clothing including solid shoes or boots. Handler to lead a heifer only under 2 years (as of the day of the Show). Handlers Animal must be eligible for breed registration with their respective breed Society or entered in an ordinary class with details of exhibit on the respective Show/event entry form for insurance purposes. The judge may ask the Parader to swap animals if required. Adult or Steward assistance is acceptable for Parader under 12 years. Competitions can be split into several age groups depending on the number of entries and level of experience. JUNIOR JUDGING COMPETITION Beef Judged SATURDAY 10 November, at 6.30 pm Entry is free, and can be submitted at time of cattle entries, otherwise competitors are to report to the Chief Cattle Steward at the Cattle Pavilion on Saturday 10 November (beef) to Meg Barry at the Cattle Pavilion by 1.30pm or on Friday 09 November (dairy). Sashes will be provided for all place getters. This competition is conducted by the Member Societies of the Midlands Group of the Victorian Agricultural Societies Association, in conjunction with VAS Ltd. The Ballarat Winner will be eligible to compete at the State Final to be held at the Royal Melbourne Show in A BAPS perpetual trophy in memory of the late Mr Peter Schembri will be awarded to the winners of the under 15 years Junior Handler and Junior Judge Competitions (Beef section only). CONDITIONS 1. Competitors must be under the age of 25 years on the day of competition at the Ballarat Show. 2. Competitors must undertake that if placed first or second they will compete at higher levels until eliminated. 3. Not less than three animals of one breed will be provided for judging, and such animals will be placed in order 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc by the Competitor in accordance with points awarded. Five animals will be provided at State and National levels. 4. Each Competitor will be allowed equal time (15 minutes suggested) and will be provided with a card on which he or she will indicate the number of points he or she awarded to each animal. Classes may be amalgamated or divided at the discretion of the judge/stewards. All handlers to wear white coats/clothing in the show ring. 4. Type & Production Classes - Points on Milk Production Show Cards MUST be included on entry. Type & Production points Cards MUST be brought to the show and WILL be inspected by the stewards. All valid cards have no time limit. Entries in T & P Classes will be disqualified if Exhibitors fail to present relevant Show Cards for inspection when required. 5. Classes marked * are special classes. Goats in these classes must also be entered in their appropriate age/breed classes. 6. Animals entered in AOV classes cannot compete against the other recognised breeds & can only be shown in their specific classes apart from best udder classes. To comply with NLIS AOV animals must be ear tagged. 7. Exhibits are to be ready when classes are called or may be disqualified. This is necessary because of the size of the show. 8. All ages are to be given as at the date of the Show. Senior Does must be in milk. 9. All queries or complaints to be directed to the Head Steward whose decision shall be final. 10. Exhibitors are to report to the Head Steward on arrival to arrange tattoo checks, advise of scratchings & receive catalogues. Winners tattoos may be inspected 11. Exhibits are to be penned by 9.00 am. 12. ALL does are to be presented for assessment prior to the best vessel classes then milked out for final assessment by the judge whether or not they are entered in best vessel classes. Only does entered in best vessel classes will then remain in the ring for awarding of places. 13. It is the exhibitors responsibility to ensure does are milked out in a reasonable time. 14. CAE & JD negative show. Exhibits over 12 months of age must have tested CAE & JD negative. Exhibitors must forward proof with entries or entries will not be accepted. CATALOGUE The Ballarat Show Schedule/Catalogue will be available online and a printed copy available from the Ballarat Showgrounds Office. 2. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY An exhibit must be the bona fide work of the exhibitor. An exhibit cannot be entered in more than one class. An exhibit must have been made by the one exhibitor unless entered in a group class. An exhibit must not have been entered at a previous Ballarat Show. Exhibits must not have been worn, used or marked, except in junior competition (including Schools) where exhibits may have been worn at other exhibitions. Exhibitors may wash/rinse exhibits for presentation, that is to remove any soiling that may have occurred in the making of the exhibit. Pre heat oven to 180C (160C fan). Grease a 20cm (8 ) round cake tin and line with baking paper. 2. Sift the dry ingredients together into a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and oil, then add to the dry ingredients. Mix well then add the carrots, crushed pineapple and pecans. Mix to form a smooth batter and pour into the cake tin. 3. Bake for approximately minutes. 4. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes in the tin on a wire rack. Upend and allow to cool on the wire rack. Class VAS Ltd Junior Boiled Fruit Cake Primary & Secondary School Eligible To Enter Voucher for the best exhibit donated by the Regent Theatre Recipe Ingredients 375g Mixed Fruit, 3/4 cup brown sugar 1 tsp mixed spice, 1/2 cup water 125g butter, 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda 2 eggs lightly beaten, 2 tablespoons marmalade 1 cup self-raising flour, 1 cup plain flour 1/4 teaspoon salt, ½ cup sherry Method 1. Place the mixed fruit, spice, sugar, water and butter in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. 2. Simmer gently for 3 minutes, then remove from stove add bicarb soda and allow to cool. 3. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well. 4. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients then place in a greased and lined 20 cm round cake tin. 5.
