The meeting will be the first of the season between Pittsburgh and Richmond, with both most recently coming off losses at home to Nashville and Charlotte, respectively. Saturday s match will mark the 39th all-time head-to-head meeting. The Black and Gold have not had the upper hand, holding an record against its Old Guard counterpart, including in away ties. Pittsburgh s last win against the Kickers came on May 16, 2015 a 2-1 road victory. Negating early chances will play huge for the Hounds in Virginia. Their past two losses at City Stadium have both featured goals within the first 20 minutes of play Fred Owusu Sekyere (15 ) in 2017 and own goals in 2016 by Conor Branson (17 ) and Hunter Gilstrap (20 ). This weekend also will see the Hounds have to do something they have yet to do all season bounce back from a defeat in league play. Falling to Nashville earlier this week, the Hounds saw their club-best 10-game unbeaten streak to start a season snapped, as they were the last remaining unbeaten team in the league. Bob Lilley-led squads are notorious for limiting the damage following defeat. While different colors and setting, his Rochester Rhinos squads lost back-to-back games only three times total from , including none for the USL Cup-champion 2015 team. The Hounds, meanwhile, have lost back-to-back matches at least twice in each of their seven seasons in the current era of the USL (since 2011). This includes a three-game losing streak during the 2017 season. A stout defensive front remains for Pittsburgh, as the club has been outnumbered on shots on goal on only two occasions this season draws at Cincinnati and Tampa Bay. Despite this favorable trend, the Hounds attack has been shut out in five matches this season all games where they have registered 12 or more shots against the opposition. Shutouts aside, the Hounds will be hoping history repeats itself, as they last followed up back-to-back zero goal efforts with a four-goal explosion against Toronto on April 7. Richmond might be exactly what the doctor ordered, as it is one of seven teams in the East to allow two or more goals on at least four separate occasions this season.
