The Hawks received goals from four different players en route to the 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs. Today s game marks the fi rst time the rivals have met in the title game. Monmouth fell to Rider in 2000 and 2001 semifi nals, 1-0 and 3-1. The two Garden State squads battled again in 2004, with the Broncs victorious, 4-0. Hawks Hotline...(732) 571-HAWK First season of Division I FIG-NEWTON Carli Figlio, in her fourth year, has guided her squad to two consecutive Northeast Conference Tournament berths. The 2010 NEC Coach of the Year is at the helm of the Hawks, lead her team to its second consecutive NEC Championship game appearance by defeating Bryant, 4-1. Figlio is 2-1 in postseason action. IT S NOT HOW YOU START, IT S HOW YOU FINISH Monmouth fi nished a program-best 14-4 overall, breaking the wins record of 11 set in The Blue and White had its best record against nonconference opponents (8-3) and fi nished above.500 in conference for the the fi rst time since 2001 and the fourth time in its history. NATIONAL ATTENTION Monmouth cracked into the Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Coaches Poll on September 14th, receiving six votes. The Hawks were in the poll seven times throughout the season, topping out with seven votes. HAWKS VS. THE NATION S ELITE Monmouth is a combined 5-4 against teams who have been listed in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Coaches poll throughout the year. The Hawks defeated Villanova, Delaware, Rutgers, Brown and Temple and fell to Richmond, #15 Penn State, Columbia and Rider. ALL-NEC Monmouth was represented by six athletes on the NEC All-Conference Teams. Morganne Firmstone and Michelle Pieczynski were tabbed to the fi rst team while Nicole Manziano, Kimmy Baligian, Nora Bosmans, and Melissa Katz were selected to the second squad. Head coach Carli Figlio was named the NEC Coach of the Year, selected by her peers. ROUND ONE The Hawks dropped its lone contest with Rider this season, 3-0. Michelle Pieczynski, Tori Symonds and Ashley McPeek all registered shots for the Blue and White. Melissa Katz made six saves in cage while Ali Askinas recorded her fi rst career defensive save. IT S JUST A PUPPY Monmouth defeated Bryant in the semifi nals, 4-1 in its fi rst ever meeting in the postseason. This is the Hawks seventh trip to the NEC Tournament while the Bulldogs made its postseason debut after completing its two-year reclassifi cation from Division II. SENIOR LEADERSHIP The Hawks fi ve seniors have been an instrumental part of the most successful season in program history. Morganne Firmstone leads the senior class with six goals and six assists, both career highs, while Meredith Violi became the program s assist leader, registering nine helpers this season. Katelyn Buckley s two goals this season were game-winners while Melissa Murphy scored her fi rst colligate goal, a game-winner, at Quinnipiac. Local product, Melissa Katz has played every minute in cage for the Blue and White, posting 77 saves. PIECE OF PIE Michelle Pieczynski scored four goals against Siena setting the single-season record for goals in a game and points with eight. The same weekend, the sophomore scored the game-winner over Bryant, in double overtime, which earned her Northeast Conference Player of the Week honors. STOP TREATING US LIKE CHILDREN Underclassmen have contributed for 63% of the offense, scoring 37 out of the 59 goals. Sophomores Michelle Pieczynski and Kimmy Baligian lead the squad with 14 goals. Freshman Alex Carroll tallied nine goals in 15 games played.

4 DOUBLE A BATTERY - JUST KEEPS GOING Defender Ali Askinas earned the starting nod in every game this season. The freshman registered her fi rst defensive save against Rider late in the fi rst half. WE RE GOING STREAKING The Hawks enjoyed its longest win streak in program history, taking seven straight from September 5th to October 2nd. Also this season, MU enjoyed a fi ve-game win streak to start Northeast Conference play. LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIEND Senior Meredith Violi set the new single-season record for assists with nine, erasing the mark of seven set by Enza Mazza in With her nine helpers this season, Violi moved into fi rst place all-time with 14 career assists. ALEX THE GREAT Freshman Alex Carroll earned four consecutive Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors as the local product scored seven goals, good for 14 points, during the four weeks, which included the game-winner against Delaware. NEC WEEKLY HONORS The Hawks enjoyed weekly Northeast Conference honors seven out of the ten weeks of the season. Morganne Firmstone won the fi rst NEC Player of the Week honors of the season for her game-winner against Villanova. Senior goalkeeper Melissa Katz won the honor twice, while sophomores Kimmy Baligian and Michelle Piecynski each claimed a player of the week honors. Freshman Alex Carroll enjoyed four straight weeks of NEC Rookie of the Week accolades from September 13th to October 4th. DAY TO REMEMBER Monmouth rewrote the record books in its 10-0 win over Siena (10/22). In the game, MU earned its 12th win which broke the record of 11, set in Also, the Hawks 10 goals was the highest goal production since scoring eight in 2002 against Saint Francis (Pa.), while Monmouth s 28 points as a team erases the record of 20 set in the same contest against the Red Flash. MU recorded eight assists against the Saints, breaking the record of fi ve set against Siena a year ago. KEEPING UP WITH THE BALIGIANS Sophomore Kimmy Baligian scored her fi rst career goal against Brown (9/11) and scored in the next fi ve consecutive games, including three straight two-goal games against Rutgers, Vermont and Temple. On the season, Monmouth is 11-0 when Baligian registers a goal. BIG KAT Senior goalkeeper Melissa Katz has registered 77 saves on the season, playing all 1348:53 minutes in the cage for the Hawks. The local product owns a 1.40 goals against average and.740 save percentage this season. Playing over 4700 minutes in cage for the Blue and White, Katz has compiled 398 saves with a 2.38 goals against average and.718 save percentage and ten shutouts (six this season) in her career. FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING The Hawks enjoyed fi rst ever wins over non-conference opponents Villanova and Delaware this season. The Blue and White defeated the Wildcats to start its season, 2-1 in overtime, when senior Morganne Firmstone connected on a penalty stroke, 45 seconds into the extra session. MU took out the Blue Hens, 3-1, in their fi rst ever trip to West Long Branch. The Hawks received goals from freshman Alex Carroll and sophomores Kimmy Baligian and Michelle Pieczynski in the victory. Both Villanova and Delaware were receiving votes in the Kookaburra/NFHCA National Coaches Poll when they fell to the Hawks. IN THE COUNTRY...IF NOT THE WORLD Monmouth is well represented in this week s NCAA Statistical Report. The Hawks are ranked seventh in the country in shutouts per game (0.33), winning percentage (0.778) and penalty corners per game (9.22). The Blue and White have the 14th best scoring margin (1.59) and 18th ranked scoring average (3.01), respectfully in the nation. STICK IT TO CANCER Monmouth and in-state rival Rutgers teamed up to Stick It To Cancer when they met on September 19th. The Hawks came back to win 4-3 behind two goals from Alex Carroll and Kimmy Baligian and the two teams raised over $1,500 for cancer research.
