6 Fairfield Field Hockey Timeline Fairfield field hockey was born as a club sport in 1974, and became a varsity sport prior to the 1980 season. Six head coaches have guided the field hockey team as the Stags have played 330 varsity contests Fairfield field hockey becomes a club sport. The Stags play three contests and win one Grace Greene is hired as the first head coach. She guides the team to a mark Greene guides the team to its first winning season with a 4-3 record Field hockey gains varsity status at the Division III level, and Marilyn Rowe becomes the second coach. Nancy Whelan leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists as the Stags finish Fairfield allows just 12 goals in 10 games The Stags advance to postseason play for the first time but drop a 1-0 decision to Worcester Polytechnical Institute in the Division III EAIAW Regional Playoffs. Nancy Whelan nets 10 goals to lead Fairfield, and goalies Mary Carrington and Sue Weyant combine for 99 saves while allowing 1.10 goals per game. The Red and White posts a record Fairfield field hockey gains Division I status, and the Stags have their most successful season with a 9-5 mark. Janet Kendall sets a pair of school single-season records, netting 13 goals and adding seven assists for 33 points. On the defensive side, goalie Sue Weyant registers an.830 save percentage, stopping 72 of 84 shots on goal The Stags complete back-to-back winning campaigns, posting a 9-7 record. Janet Kendall and Lauren Lam lead the team offensively with 21 goals between them. Current coach Jackie Leonard (Kane 87) plays her freshman season for Fairfield Head coach Marilyn Rowe steps down following a season. Her.545 winning percentage ( record) in five seasons is still the best in school history Janet Kendall nets four goals in limited playing time due to a knee injury. She finishes her career as the Stags all-time points (89), goals (38), and assists (13) leader. Betty Browne becomes the program s third coach Melissa Falen takes over as head coach of the Stags, beginning a three-year run. 7 Fairfield Field Hockey Timeline Continued Under new head coach Anita D Ascenzo, Fairfield plays a full Division I schedule for the first time in school history Senior Mary Beth Combs becomes the first player to compete in the prestigious North-South All-Star Game, after tallying six goals and three assists. She also receives the Woman of the Year award from the NCAA Jackie Kane 87 becomes the program s sixth coach. Jenna Cardone and Leslie Hubbard are named Academic All-Americans Fairfield field hockey joins the Patriot League Jodie Kuczarski registers eight goals and eight assists to lead the team in scoring and earns All-Patriot League first team honors. The Stags score 36 goals, more than the previous three seasons combined The Stags win the Patriot League regular- season crown and host the playoffs, marking the second time in school history that the team advanced to postseason play. Fairfield records its first winning season since 1983, with a 14-8 overall record. Freshman Iza Kotowski ties the school single-season record for points (33) and assists (9). Fairfield sets school single-season records for goals (50), assists (38), and points (138). Kuczarski and Stanley are selected to play in the NFHCA Mideast Region All-America team, and both earn All-Patriot League first team honors The Stags finish second in the Patriot League regular-season standings and advance to post-season play. Kandiss Kulp garnered the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and plays in the NFHCA North- South All-Star Game. Iza Kotowski is named to the second team Mideast Region All-America and first team all-patriot League Fairfield, with a 12-9 overall record, earns it third straight Patriot League tournament berth, after finishing second in the regular season. Emilie Hugenholtz sets a school record with five game-winning goals and ties the single-season record for goals (13). She earns Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. Hugenholtz and Patricia Stanley were selected to the NFHCA s Regional All-America team The Red and White garner their first-ever Patriot League tournament title, winning the event as the number four seed. Fairfield, which finished the season with an overall record and a 4-3 conference mark, played Maryland in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Iza Kotowski became the all-time leading scorer Fairfield joins the Northeast Conference and reaches the tournament championship game, losing to regularseason champ Rider 3-2 on the road. Lauren Pizzi earns All-NEC and All-NFHCA Mideast Region Fairfield plays its final season in the Northeast Conference, finishing with a 4-4 record after winning four its final five NEC games The Stags begin their first season in America East.

8 Fairfield Field Hockey Timeline Continued Fairfield posts its first America East win with a 1-0 decision over Vermont. Emily Janis finished her career ranked sixth all-time in scoring with 48 points Head Coach Jackie Kane earns her 100th career win with a 5-4 overtime win against Ball State. She becomes the first Fairfield field hockey head coach to reach 100 wins The Stags post nine wins during the campaign, the most since the 2001season. Marit Westenberg and (28 points) and Amanda Sullivan (20 points) become the second Stag duo to reach 20 points in the same season Fairfield posts back-to-back nine win seasons finishing with a 9-8 overall record. Maddy Sposito ranks as high as tenth nationally with a goals against average of 1.27 mid-season. Marit Westenberg and Felicitas Heinen were selected to the 2011 All Mid-East Region Second Team among other honors The Stags earned their first-ever America East Tournament berth after finishing with a overall record. The Stags had their first-ever program national ranking, checking in at No. 23 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll after starting the year 4-2. Felicitas Heinen was named to the NFHCA All-Mideast Region Team and was a unanimous America East First Team selection after leading the league with 16 goals and six assists for 38 points. Heinen finished 21st in the nation for scoring, averaging 1.9 points per game and set single-season program records for points and goals. Junior midfielder Shealyn Testa was named to the America East Second Team after a 10-point season while Emily McCauley and Kaitlyn Taddeo were named to the America East All-Rookie Team Fairfield University Field Hockey Team

9 Fairfield Field Hockey Timeline Continued The Stags earned their second consecutive America East Tournament berth after finishing with an 11-7 overall record. The Stags had their winningest season in over a decade, having last achieved 11 wins in the 2001 campaign. Felicitas Heinen was named to the NFHCA All-Mideast Region Team and was a unanimous America East First Team selection. Heinen finished 11th in the nation with 0.89 goals per game, 12th in points per game (2.11) and tied her single-season program records for points and goals. Valerie Buurma finished tied for 15th in the nation with 0.56 assists per game. Seniors Shealyn Testa and Hillary Fitts were named to the America East Second Team along with freshman Julie de Paeuw who was also named to the America East All-Rookie Team The Stags earned their third consecutive America East Tournament berth after finishing with a 7-12 overall record. Felicitas Heinen and Ann Burgoyne were named to ECAC All-Start Teams, the NFHCA All-Mideast Region Team, and were America East First Team selections. They were the first Stags in program history to earn the America East Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Heinen set new program records for career (45) and points (112), while Burgoyne set new single-season records for goals (19) and points (39). Burgoyne finished fourth in the nation with 1.00 goals per game and ranked 12th in points per game (2.05). Sophomore Julie de Paeuw was named to the America East Second Team while freshman Bridget Miles and Jaclyn Gallagher were named to the America East All-Rookie Team The Stags began their first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and clinched the number four seed in the postseason tournament with a 7-9 regular season record including a 3-3 record in league play. Fairfield defeated top seeded Monmouth in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament and then went on to shutout Quinnipiac in the Championship game. With the title, the Stags qualified for the NCAA Tournament and took on Boston University in the Play-In Round. They fell to the Terriers 6-1 in their first NCAA Tournament appearance since In their first year in the MAAC, the Stags earned several postseason awards. Julie de Paeuw was named the 2015 MAAC Player of the Year, Ann Burgoyne was named the 2015 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, and Ruth Smalbraak was named the 2015 MAAC Rookie of the Year. Burgoyne and de Paeuw were also named to the All-MAAC First Team, while Smalbraak, Erin Buckley and Maclaine Matties were named to the All-MAAC Second Team. The team as a whole was named to the 2015 ZAG/NFHCA DI National Academic Team Award list Fairfield University Field Hockey Team

10 Fairfield Field Hockey Timeline Continued 2016 Fairfield finished the regular season with a 7-12 record after going 4-2 in MAAC play and earning the second seed in the conference tournament. The Stags defeated Bryant in the semifinals before falling to top seeded Monmouth 3-2 in a double overtime thriller in the MAAC Championship Game. The Cardinal Red led the conference with eight All-MAAC selections. Senior Ann Burgoyne became Fairfield s all-time leader in points and goals, finishing her career with 126 points and 56 goals. Senior Caitlin Bennett cemented herself in Fairfield history playing in 71 total games and recording 32 victories, good for third and second most in program history, respectively. And senior Julie de Paeuw tied the single-season record with 11 assists in her final campaign with the Stags. The senior offensive duo of Burgoyne and de Paeuw were also selected as NFHCA Division I Senior All-Stars joining an elite group of nine former Stags who were also selected as Senior All-Stars.
