1 NPSHL Hockey League Provides Competitive Enviroment for Area Recreation Teams Kent Valley Ice Centre, Kent, WA. December 14, 2011 The North Puget Sound Hockey League (NPSHL) includes recreation level teams from Kitsap County, Tacoma Jr., Kent Valley, SnoKing, Seattle Jr., Everett and the Western Washington Female Hockey Associations. This season s NPSHL League includes 13 Squirt, 13 PeeWee, 8 Bantam and 9 Midget teams and involves more than 600 hockey players. Administration of the league is the responsibility of the SnoKing and Seattle Jr. Hockey Associations. They develop the annual game schedules for each age division and report all game results through their web site. Kent Valley Hockey Association is very appreciative of the efforts of everyone involved in creating and managing the NPSHL league. Participation in this league is very important to our recreation level teams and we thank the NPSHL Administration for all they do. KVHA Members are invited to visit the NPSHL League web site at: 9 th Annual KVHA Auction Update A quick peek inside the KVHA Auction room reveals an amazing and growing number of items for the February 3 rd event at ShoWare Center. Most teams have completed their auction procurement commitments and are now focusing on the sale of tickets. Co-Chairs Amy Cook and Vicki Bloss are encouraging KVHA Members to focus on selling tickets to friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers. This year's auction should be fun, with plenty of exciting items, from flying lessons, cooking lessons in Pike Place Market, a Kindle, ipod, Xbox 360 Kinect Bundle, Smart Phone, flat screen TV, spa services, and much more. The Thunderbirds' mascot, Cool Bird, is joining us for an evening of silent and live auction, complimentary wine and passed appetizers, catered dinner, and fun. December 10, 2011 The Kent Valley Mite Tornadoes hosted the SnoKing Jr. T-Birds Green on home ice at the Kent Valley Ice Centre on Saturday, December 10th. However, something was dramatically different about this game! The cool, crisp nature of the arena was almost overpowered by the competitive air

2 that seemed to churn. As a result, it would turn out to be the Tornadoes best game so far this season! Even after the first face-off, the fierce competitiveness displayed by both teams was overtly apparent. In an almost poetic ebb and flow, the teams would swap possession multiple times throughout the battle. Although two penalties for roughing and body checking attempted to blemish a stellar first period, the Tornadoes were able to fend off both powerplay attempts. As the period closed, both teams were scoreless. When the 2nd period opened, the exhilarating battle for possession continued. However, at 7:44 on the clock, the Jr. Tbirds Green decided they d had enough and struck first, scoring on an assisted goal. Undeterred, the Tornadoes got to work and concentrated on their positional attacks. Within minutes, Aidan Herring(#14) tied it up by scoring a goal on a power-play, assisted by Jake Ferguson(#6). It was evident from the first two periods of play that this game was indeed different. The turbulent struggle continued well into the 3rd period as both teams fought for possession and tried to capitalize on penalty plays. Unfortunately, as the period closed, the Jr. T-Birds Green scored again to regain the lead and make the final goal of the game. In the end, the Kent Valley Mite Tornadoes lost a tough one at home to the SnoKing Jr. T- Birds Green in league play Saturday. The Jr. T-Birds Green defeated the Tornadoes by a final score of 2 to 1. It was an exciting match-up from start to finish! Ultimately, the Tornadoes had more shots on goal but were unable to convert these into scores on the board. First-time Tornadoes goalie Maxwell Mudge(#15) did an outstanding job by stopping 5 of 7 Jr. T-Bird Green s shots for an impressive 71% save rate. Way to go, Max! Congratulations to both teams on such a breathtaking game! KVHA Mite Tornadoes (1) vs. SnoKing Mite Green (2) SnoKing 2 7:44 Colin Bice from Wyatt Stevenson Kent Valley 2 0:22 Aidan Herring from Jake Ferguson SnoKing 3 6:00 Nolan Harper from Gabriel Kindgren Kent Valley s Maxwell Mudge stopped 5 of 7 shots on goal for 71%. Squirt Tornadoes Tie Up Kitsap County Outlaws Bremerton Ice Arena, Bremerton, WA. December 11, 2011 Kent Valley s Squirt Tornadoes matched the Kitsap County Outlaws goal for goal Sunday and skated away with a 3 to 3 NPSHL League tie. The Tornadoes remain near the top of the 13-team Squirt Division of the NPSHL League tied for 3 rd place with the Seattle Jr. Badgers. Kent Valley s Jackson Grande scored two goals, one in the second and the other in third period, both unassisted. Chase Pagan scored the Tornadoes other goal, also unassisted. Credit goes to the Tornadoes defense as they shut down the stronger Kitsap County offense when it counted most. The Tornadoes Tyler Roberts was strong in goal as he turned away 22 of 25 shots on goal for an 88% save rate. The Outlaws outshot the Tornadoes 25 to 19. The Tornadoes have a record and are in possession of all their sportsmanship points. Their next NPSHL League game is set for December 17 th at Kent Valley Ice Centre against the 12 th place SnoKing Grey. SnoKing Grey s record is for 9 points, averages 2.11 goals for and 7.00 goals against. Go Tornadoes!

Tri-Cities scored the only goals in the first period and took a 2-0 lead into the second period. Kemper Terry and Danny Smith teamed up for a Kent Valley goal in the second period. December 10, 2011 Kent Valley s PeeWee Hurricanes played an even game until the last few minutes of the third period when the Seattle Jr. Blades scored the winning goal, the only goal of the game. This was one of those exciting games where you wonder if anyone is ever going to score. Unfortunately, shots on goal were not recorded making it difficult to determine what kind of pressure Kent Valley s John Brockes faced in net for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are in 8 th place in the NPSHL League standings with a record and 16 points. They remain 1 point in front of the Kent Valley Tornadoes in the standings. The Hurricanes next NPSHL League game will be January 8 th at Kingsgate Ice Arena against the 10 th place WWFHA Phoenix (3-5-1). The True Meaning of Winning the Cup: "Winning it the first time, it was like a wave of emotions. A lifetime of dreams that started as a little kid, wishing for and imagining that moment one day when you would lift it over your head it was overwhelming. So emotional. Then, at the same time, there was just this huge sense of relief. Just a gigantic release in realizing that you accomplished a goal that you had set for yourself so long ago. It s like the greatest dream come true, it really is. I was blessed to have won three of them, so each one was special and unique in its own way.
