Health: Health papers can be furnished for cattle to be shipped out of state. All bulls are tested negative for BVD and have passed a fertility test. Trich testing may be required for bulls going to some states (depending upon state regulations) Delivery: Receive $100 credit per bull if you take them home on sale day. Free delivery up to 250 miles is available on bulls and registered heifers. Other arrangements can be made on an individual basis, please call prior to sale. NO DELIVERY IS AVAILABLE ON COMMERCIAL HEIFERS. Possession: Bulls can be taken after purchase or we will care for the bulls until April 15th, free of charge. Guarantee: All bulls have passed fertility tests. All bulls will be guaranteed sound for the first breeding season (until Sept 1, 2018); however, the seller will not be held responsible for mistreatment or mismanagement. If a suitable replacement is available he will be furnished OR a credit toward a purchase in next years sale if a suitable replacement is not available. 4 WELCOME! We would like to welcome you to the annual Axtell Cattle Company bull and female sale. We have changed the date and time of our sale this year. We are now selling on MONDAY, March 26th at 1:00 P.M. We made this change in order to get off of the regular sale day at Sterling Livestock and to be able to expand the sale to include nearly 100 Commercial Replacement Heifers from our customers. We feel the new time and date will allow our customers a little more flexibility with morning chores, give everyone more travel time, and provide a less hectic atmosphere. We will be selling 69 Bulls and 20 Registered Replacement Heifers. The bulls are basically the top half of our calf crop. We don t keep them all, the bottom end are sold as calves in the fall and we make more cuts to the bulls as the winter goes on. We believe this set is as uniform a bunch of bulls as we ve offered. The heifers are a cross section of calving ease heifers, bigger end heifers and some out of the middle. We try to offer as many different sire groups as possible in order to offer a variety of type and kind in the heifers. Be sure to check out the videos of all the bulls and heifers online at DVauction.com Keep in mind that they will have grown another month since the time of the videos and the bulls should be at least 75 lbs. bigger on sale day. All I know is he is a proven bull with Genomic that had a 104 YW Ratio on his calves last year and his numbers dropped. I don t see the logic in that. He will continue to be a bull that performs much better than his numbers might suggest.

8 Commercial females This year we are offering groups of commercial replacement heifers for our customers out of our genetics. These heifers are owned and raised by the three consignors and have been bangs vaccinated and are ready to breed. These heifers come from some of the top commercial herds in Northeast Colorado. Each group of heifers will come into the ring and the buyer has the option of taking 5 head up to the whole lot. We believe this is a solid group of red females that will make their new owners proud. The commercial heifers will START the sale at 1:00 P.M. so be ready for these outstanding females! LOT A Travis Vallin Watkins, CO (303) Travis is offering 25 head of replacement heifers. These are the replacements that he had picked for his fine herd. He kept 31 head and is culling them down to 25 head for this sale. These are straight Red Angus heifers and are out of Axtell Bulls selected for maternal strength. Registration # s , , , These cattle will be in the right condition to breed and are backed by an outstanding cow herd. LOT B Lanny and Connie Payne 7Y Ranch Cope, CO (970) Lanny and Connie will be offering 55 head of replacement heifers. These heifers will be all red with multiple generations of Axtell genetics on the cow side of their pedigrees. The sires of these heifers will be Axtell Red Angus and Berger Red Sim Angus bulls. The sires to these heifers are sons of Beckton Cody T008 K2, Brown JYJ Redemption and Leachman Cadillac. These heifers will all be 75% Red Angus or more out of a herd that has been closed for generations. These cattle typically sell right at the top of the market here at Sterling Livestock. This is a nice group of heifers that will make outstanding cows and are backed by a reputation cow herd. LOT C Steve and Matt Kalous Brush, CO (970) Steve and Matt are offering 17 head of replacement heifers. These heifers are born in January and February and are out of a high performance cattle herd. They will have extra size and weight and will make top cows. They are sired by Axtell Nebula 9704 # , our top selling bull in 2010, who is still going strong, Axtell Emperor 4229 # our second high selling bull of all time and Axtell Dominator 5830 # the third high selling bull in They buy the good ones and it is evident in the quality of their cattle. 25 Red Angus Heifers We will be bringing the heifers into the ring in groups of two. You will have the option of purchasing one heifer or both, your choice. The heifers in the offering are right out of the replacement pen including a few from the very top. They are not big, fat heifers. They are raised right along with our other heifers and should mature into 1,000 lb. bred heifers. They will grow well once they hit green grass. We feel that over feeding young heifers is detrimental to their potential milking ability and structure. 30 Foundation Females Our Program We purchased our first Registered Red Angus cow in 1993 and started in the Red Angus business in We started small with purchases from well known herds and over the years we ve been able to increase our herd through additional purchases at Boot Jack, Milk Creek Reds, Beckton and others. All of the cattle we have bought in the last five years have went back to a base of Boot Jack, Beckton, Buffalo Creek and Beeby genetics. We have used A.I.; however, our bread and butter has been buying the best bulls we can find and using them in natural service. We are also using more home raised sires in our program. We feel that our herd bulls are as good or better than most A.I. bulls in the industry. Using our home raised bulls is something that has really helped us improve our cow herd. We take a lot of pride in udder quality and mothering ability and knowing the dam of our herd sire is important to us so that we don t bring in any unwanted traits through the cow side. Our program is focused on convenience traits. We strive for a cow herd that has sound feet, excellent udders and good fleshing ability. We live in short grass country where large pampered cattle will not work. We have found that moderate framed, easy doing cattle are the way to go here. essive growth cattle are typically gone very quickly due to our limited feed resources. We breed for the middle and feel that if our s indicate that we are near the breed average in most traits, then we are doing something right. You will not see many sires used here that are trait leaders at any one trait, yet they will be very competitive at most traits. You will notice a strong Boot Jack influence in our herd. We really like the maternal side of the Boot Jack cattle and feel that the infusion of Beckton genetics have complimented them well. The dam s and most of the sires of these bulls are available to be seen at any time. Calving ease is also a focus of our program. We have had very few calving problems in our herd.
