It was Congress that asked Americans of all backgrounds and ages to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King s legacy of turning community concerns to community action. The King Day of Service is scheduled each year on the third Monday of January. This year the day of service is January 21 st. Join a community effort or organize a community service project and become part of 4-H: Mobilizing Head, Heart, Hands and Health to assist families coping with tough times. Suggested project ideas: food or clothing drive, collect pet care items for senior citizens, provide child care or needed child care items, pick up trash in your neighborhood, visit a nursing home the possibilities are endless! It doesn t matter what the community service is as the day is more than a day of service - it is about connecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities in a shared commitment to making a difference in their community. 5
