This is our day to teach youth the importance of AGRICULTURE and how it affects their day to day life. All Intermediate and Senior age 4-H members, as well as all 4-H parents are invited to help with this fun, all-day program. We will need both youth and adult volunteers. If you are interested in helping with this event, please call or the office by April 15. Thank you notes (in an envelope, addressed, stamped & ready to mail) must be brought to the Extension Office--- before COUNTY SHOW checks can be picked up. MAJOR SHOW RESULTS Great job to all 4-Hers who participated in major shows this year! We would love for you to post your major show results and photos on our Facebook page at: Facebook.com/Erath4H Alternately, you can them to erath-tx@tamu.edu and we will post them for you on the Erath 4-H Facebook page. Lists of COUNTY SHOW buyers were sent out last month. Call the Extension Office if you did not receive your list. We will let you know when checks are ready to be picked up. The JLSEC must collect enough money from the buyers before they can write checks to exhibitors, so there is not a definite date that checks will be ready. Last year they were not ready until the end of March. View more pics and results on our Facebook page at: Facebook.com/Erath4H It is officially time for the 2015 Texas 4-H Equine and Livestock Ambassador applications to be opened to all interested 4-Hers ages who have at least one active year left in 4-H. These Ambassador Programs are an opportunity for the elite Texas 4-H youth to get more opportunities to showcase both their leadership and advocacy skills. Step 2: make sure to attend validation in person with your animals on the date and location listed above. Step 3: Sign up for stock shows in August with Emily on the date listed above. VALIDATION TIPS: You need to order validation tags (for steers, lambs, goats, and pigs) NOW whether weather you plan to go to the State Fair of Texas or not. Because if you go ahead and validate the animal and you decide to go to the State Fair, then you are validated and ready to show; if you decide not to order validation tags, and do not attend validation, and in August you decide you want to show at the State Fair of Texas, the answer will be no, you cannot exhibit at the State Fair of Texas. 1. If you plan to exhibit a steer next year at the Erath County Junior Livestock Show, then I highly suggest you order a major steer tag and make sure to be at validation. If you do not attend the steer validation date listed above, you will NOT be validated for the Erath County Junior Livestock Show. 2. When in doubt, call the Extension Agent. 6 RESULTS page 6 HORSE PROJECT NEWS If you are interested in Horse Judging, Contact Cowboy Capital Horse Club Manager, Amy Gillespie at DISTRICT HORSE JUDGING CONTEST April 11 College Station DEADLINE to enter: March 23 This year Horse Validation must be completed online using 4-H Connect. Validation and payment is required of ALL horses regarless if they were entered this year or last year! Validation is open from March 1st to May 1st No validations after May 1 will be accepted! Cost of Validation: Between March 1- April 15th: $10 per horse Between April 16th May 1st: $20 per horse Validate early and save money! Expo Center in Belton, TX Entry deadline: May 30 at 5 PM Entry Fee: $12 per class Horses MUST be validated to be shown at the District or State Horse Show! For more info visit: events-and-activities/horse-show/ TEXAS STATE 4-H HORSE SHOW July 18-25, 2015 Taylor Co. Expo Center in Abilene, TX Entry deadline: June 18, 2015 Contestants must register for the State 4-H Horse Show on the 4-H Connect system within 48 hours after their District Horse Show ends. Contestants cannot enter a Qualifying Division at State, unless they showed in at least one class within that same division at District. Contestants do not have to show at District, in order to show in the Open Divisions at State. Horses MUST be validated to be shown at the District or State Horse Show! Get rules, schedule and more info at: RESULTS Youth horse enthusiasts have several opportunities to get involved with 4-H and FFA horse projects. No matter what your interest in horses may be there is something for everyone! Raising horse projects teaches youngsters responsibility and commitment to a project. The time invested in riding, caring for, and training horses improves the quality of life for children. Many students compete in youth rodeo events to test the skills of both the horse and rider. There are also horse show competitions for halter and performance horses that are open to youth exhibitors. Other educational contests like horse judging and the horse quiz bowl make an exciting learning experience.

8 ROUNDUP page 8 tthe top winners at County Roundup will advance to District Roundup on Saturday, April 18th in Meridian District winners (Seniors only) will advance to State Roundup on JUNE 9-11, 2015 at TAMU in College Station Senior 4-H members that have successfully placed in a qualifying position at the district level are eligible to participate in the state contests. 10 FCS UPDATE page 10 4-H FCS COALITION ANNOUNCES DATES 4-H FCS Coalition met on Feb. 19 to evaluate Youth Fair and to plan the upcoming Sewing Camp. Thanks for parents and 4-Hers for helping! Sewing Camp is going to be lots of fun. If you don t have these dates on your calendar, mark them now! Sewing Camp: July Duds to Dazzle Camp: July 17 Food Camp: August 6 The Coalition will meet again on April 23rd to plan Food Camp. Adults and youth are welcome to attend and bring their ideas and suggestions for Food Camp. Trashion Contest at State Round-Up --- Trashion Videos! We are so happy to report we have three (yes, three!) trashion videos are entered in the state contest. They will be judged in April or early May and we are hoping to have some of our 4-Hers go to Round-Up in this contest. We welcome 6 new 4-Hers from SHS who did such an excellent job on their videos! The dress in the top photo was created by Keri Cowles (left) and Starr Harmon, who is wearing the dress made from playing cards, newspaper, old book paper, cupcake wrappers, folders and broken glass. Taylor Barber and Kalee Wright (who is wearing the dress in the middle photo,) made that dress from old keyboards, gloves and paper sacks. The dress in the bottom photo was created by Aracely Pacheco (left) and Danielle Dunn, using Empire-Tribune newspapers and coke bottle tops. 11 page 11 FCS UPDATE Dinner Tonight! Healthy Cooking School Wow! Congratulations to our 4-Hers who will be participating in the Dinner Tonight! Healthy Cooking School on March 24th! The 4-H Food Challenge team made up of Megan McKeehan, Callie Wells, Addison Havens, KaraBeth Heinze and Erin Miller will participate via a video showing them making some of the recipes in the cookbook. Also participating will be the Comanche County Sr. Team, who will be advancing to State Round-Up. Our own state officer, Will Pettit, will introduce the segment at the cooking school. There is expected to be a big crowd at the school since the Crockin Girls are the featured chefs, along with HEB unit manager, Casie McCauley. Other FCS News: London Jones will speak at Extension Education functions practicing her state 4-H Food Show presentation. Lots of good things happening in Erath County 4-H!!!! Adults & youth are invited to attend the Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School.
