Your club or project group may set up any type of stop along the route...iced water in a cooler, jumbo dill pickles, a shady spot and chair to take a rest, homemade cookies...use your creative minds to welcome the bicyclists to our areas, promote 4-H, and make a little money for your 4-H group! 4 Registration OPEN for FilmFest 4-H, July 31 August 3, ages 11-18, Kansas City) Bradd Anderson Come learn from film industry professionals, and be part of a national 4-H event right in your own back yard! Now in Kansas City for the first time, FilmFest 4-H connects 4-H teens across the country to new skills taught by very special guests. Past guests have included LA-based actors, Hollywood cinematographers, producers, casting directors, pet trainers, prop masters, and many more. FilmFest 4-H is the single best opportunity to learn from the people who make your favorite movies, without spending thousands of dollars. If you happen to enjoy making movies of your own, you may also submit your films to be considered for screening at this event! To attend FilmFest 4-H you only need to arrange lodging ($109/night) and purchase an All Access Pass from the web site, which is available for an early bird special rate of only $119 if you register before June 1. Now in its 6th year, FilmFest 4-H is produced by Missouri 4-H, in partnership with National 4-H and the Missouri Film Commission. 5th Annual 4-H Public Speaking Academy, June 21-22, Ages 11-3 Extension faculty, 4-H volunteers and college professors, will guide youth to help build skills and comfort with public speaking learning the basics and finer points of writing and delivering a speech in workshops and individual sessions. Patty Fisher at fisherp@missouri.edu or H Grow True Leaders Campaign*, Rachel Augustine National 4-H Council is launching Grow True Leaders, a campaign to empower youth with the opportunity to share their voice and show that their skills are making a difference in their communities. The campaign will begin in April and run through the end of 2016, focusing on three calls to action Shout, Share and Support. The first call to action Shout will start on April 11. We are asking all 4-H members, staff, volunteers and families to help raise the visibility of 4-H by posting Shout Outs on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and websites using the hashtags #TrueLeaders and #4HGrowsHere. This is your chance to shout out and recognize the 4-H members, volunteers and alumni in your county who are true leaders! Show Me 4-H Wares/4-H Salesmanship Contest is a summer youth sales booth opportunity for 4- H entrepreneurs to exhibit and sell original hand-made products or services to the public at the Missouri State Fair! The 4-HOnline applications and additional information is available at: Registration types: Biz Individuals 1 youth age applying to sell solo. Biz Buddies 2 youth selling as a pair; lead-youth must be age 11-18; helper can be age 8-18 (both apply separately). 5 Refer to state fair website for all exhibitor & livestock show info. Are you ready for your county and state fair? Be a member in good standing with your club. Check with your leader to make sure! Complete project meeting requirements and your project record form. Meet livestock showing requirements, such as MSMQA Make your show ring or conference judging presentation your best! Registrations for the State Fair require 4-H members to be in good standing and MSMQA compliant. Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance Objective: To increase the knowledge and awareness of Missouri youth about food quality issues related to animal production. Who should take it: All 4-H members enrolled in food animal projects (including beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle and bucket calf, meat and dairy goats, rabbits and poultry) must complete the appropriate level of Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance (MSMQA) certification to be considered a 4-H member in good standing in that project. Other county good standing guidelines may also apply. The Program: The Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance Program consists of two parts. The information presented is different for each part. Most counties alternate which part is presented each year; this is why it is required to take it two consecutive years in a row. One part covers information on daily care and management; animal handling; farm/animal identification (Premise ID); reading feed labels; withdrawal times; and biosecurity (disease prevention). The other part provides information on HACCP; animal health products; proper injection locations; carcass quality; and carcass value. A refresher course is required when the 4-H member turns 14. After that is completed the 4-H member is certified through age 18. Definition of Terms: "MSMQA Qualified to Show" means the member has participated in Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance training within the current 4-H program year. "MSMQA Conditional Certified" for youth age 8 to 13 by January 1 of the program year certification is conditional. To obtain the conditional certification status a member age 8 to 13 by January 1 has participated in two consecutive years of training. Once they obtain the conditional status they do not have to take a refresher course until they are 14 by January 1 of the program year. Upon completion of the refresher course they would be SMQA Certified for the remainder of their youth exhibition career in 4-H. "MSMQA Certified" means youth in 4-H would attend one training after they have turned 14 by January 1 of the program year will be considered MSMQA Certified and no further training will be required for they remainder of their 4-H exhibition career If you are in doubt as to whether you are certified, please check with our Extension Offices in Clinton County: or Caldwell/Daviess at If you need to take the training you may do so on-line at: Please print out the certificate at the end of the training to show that you have completed the training and a completion card may be requested. 6 4-H Greetings!! I am very excited for our summer 4-H activities...camps, BAM, fairs, float trips, State Fair and more! Our local 4-H activities will be missing Dale, and I know each of us wish him well on his new position with AKC. I do not know when the position will be refilled due to current MU budget issues but will share information when available. Due to his vacancy, I am prioritizing and streamlining my work so I can be most effective in the management of our 4-H programs and activities. I feel my role is to help direct information and resources to all our 4-H families as I provide the oversight of our county 4-H programs. At the top of my list is improved communications, especially with newsletters and blasts. My goal is to have this newsletter in your mailbox/inbox by the first of each month except for May/June when I have little office time. What can you do? Watch for 4-H s, routinely read your county extension web site for Extension and 4-H news and definitely the State 4-H website! Also, PLEASE make sure your 4-HOnline information is kept updated as all our communications depend upon the information you have entered.
