2 IMPORTANT NOTES FOR EXHIBITORS TB TESTING The Cheshire Agricultural Society has decided that all animals exhibited will be required to be pre-movement tested for TB within 60 days of The Royal Cheshire County Show, irrespective of the DEFRA regulations currently in place at the exhibitor s home holding. If you reside in a low risk area, you are required to do a post movement test on your return home. You will be required to complete a declaration on the contract form to be handed in with your passports, giving details of when testing was completed. A contribution of 5.00 per animal will be paid for all animals forward towards the cost of TB testing. Please note that last year s exemption is not in place for this year. SPECIAL NOTE The Society s DEFRA Holding Number is 06/087/8000 Times of Admission Because of the necessity to man the gate, exhibitors must bring their stock to the Show during the following times:- Sunday from noon to 8.00 pm Monday from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm Tuesday no admittance accepted The only exception being those bringing calves for the Young Showmanship classes CATTLE BOX PARKING Livestock vehicle parking is in a designated secure area in the field behind the permanent building. We thank you for your cooperation. CATTLE PASSPORTS Each animal that arrives at the Showground must have the following documentation:- A4 Passport (CPP52) or Cheque Book Style Passport (CPP13) or Certificate of Registration (CHR3) or Certificate of Registration and/or Green Passport (CPP1) The Society will be reporting the movements on and off the Showground directly to BCMS via CTS online. Please ensure there is sufficient space in the passport for a Showground barcode to be placed and the dates of movement on and off the showground to the recorded. Before bringing the animal to the Show, the keeper must report the off movement to BCMS and complete the Movement Summary section of the passport. When the animal returns from the Show the keeper must report the movement back on to the farm to BCMS and complete the passport. Please make sure you have sufficient movement cards in the passport. 2

3 BIO-SECURITY Exhibitors are requested to take note of the following:- 1 Cattle Exhibitors must enter the Showground ONLY through Gate 3 from Flittogate Lane. Directions will be sent with your entry receipt and tickets. 2 Cleansing & Disinfecting of Vehicles - Vehicles used to transport livestock may if required, be cleansed and disinfected at the Showground. 3 Livestock Vehicles - Exhibitor vehicles used to transport livestock must be externally clean. The Society reserves the right to refuse entry to any vehicle deemed not to be clean. 4 Footwear & Clothing - Handlers must wear suitable protective clothing and footwear capable of being cleaned/disinfected before leaving the animal area. The key message is be clean and be seen to be clean PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION RELATING TO ENTRIES 1. Online Entries - Entries and payments can be processed online. Please visit the website at 2. Please complete an Entry Form in BLOCK CAPITALS, one per OWNER please (photocopies acceptable). 3. Entries will be made on a stall basis (one stall per animal), exhibitors applying for sufficient stalls to cover the number of animals they intend to exhibit and for safe and tidy storage of your show equipment. Exhibitors may only bring the number of animals for which stalls have been booked (excluding show equipment space). The allocation of stalls will be based on one animal occupying one stall. A maximum of two entries may be submitted for each stall booked, regardless of which animal is brought forward on the day. All entries will appear in the catalogue and there will only be substitutions in the Dairy Cattle Section upon payment of the 10 fee as detailed in the schedule. 4. Return the ENTRY FORM/S and REMITTANCE to Cheshire Agricultural Society CIO, Clay House Farm, Flittogate Lane, Tabley, Knutsford, Cheshire, WA16 OHJ, to reach us by the closing date, 12 May. PLEASE NOTE a) Ensure that you enter the correct class number on the entry form. Under no circumstances can an entry be moved from one class to another if a mistake has been made. b) Substitutes will be allowed in the Dairy Breeds only subject to the following:- A substitute will only be accepted for an entry which has been made before the closing date for entries which has been catalogued and will use the exhibit number originally allocated to that entry. The substitute must be notified on the official substitute form which will be included with your entry passes. This form must be received in the Cattle Stewards Office by 12 noon on the Monday of the Show week. If you are unable to hand deliver the form by this deadline, you will be required to notify the Show office by the Friday preceding the Show by fax ( ) or entries@cheshirecountyshow.org.uk marking this for the attention of the Chief Cattle Steward. The substitute form must be accompanied by the payment of 10 for each substitute made. 3

4 c) Tickets, wristbands, exhibitor numbers and passes will be sent to the name and address on the Entries Statement. d) Head cards for cattle will be available from the Chief Steward at the Show. PRIZE MONEY Prize vouchers will be issued with rosettes in the ring and prize money can be collected from the ICE PLC cash point located by the main ring on Show days. Alternatively prize vouchers can be sent to the Show Office before 31 July. Prize vouchers received after this date will not be paid out. Prize money will not automatically be issued without a prize card voucher being sent to the Show Office. Other additional payments will be issued by the Show Office within 8 weeks of the Show. Cheques not banked by end of September will be invalid and the Society will donate the value of the cheque to a charity of their choice. STOCKMENS BREAKFASTS Free Breakfast Tickets Cattle Exhibitors have to stay for both days of the Show so the Society is pleased to give a free issue of breakfast tickets according to cattle stalls booked as follows. Breakfast tickets will not be issued for Calf Stalls. 2-3 cattle stalls will receive 1 free breakfast ticket 4-5 cattle stalls will receive 2 free breakfast tickets 6-7 cattle stalls will receive 3 free breakfast tickets 8 or more cattle stalls will receive 4 free breakfast tickets Additional tickets at the special subsidised rate of 6.00 are available as above. These must be paid for with entries. Please note breakfasts served on show days only. The Tabley Restaurant will be available for meals from Monday evening. CATTLE GENERAL NOTES & INFORMATION FOR CATTLE EXHIBITORS PLEASE ALSO SEE RULES AT THE BACK OF SCHEDULE NIGHT VETERINARY COVER THE WILLOWS VETERINARY GROUP - Tel : Exhibitors MUST PAY any fees for VETERINARY ATTENTION which may be charged at the time. The Society requires that cattle remain on the Showground until after the Grand Parade on the second day. ANTI TAMPERING The Society reserves the right to blood test animals. Offending animals will be disqualified. Any artificial contrivance or device of any description found on or proved to have been used on an animal at any time whilst that animal is in the Showground, either for preventing the flow of milk or for any other improper purpose, will disqualify that animal from being awarded a prize, and any prize awarded prior to discovery will be forfeited. The Instigator or The Owner of the said animal may be prohibited from again entering Stock for any of the Society s Shows, for such period as the Committee may see fit. For the purpose of this Regulation, the term improper practice shall be held to include setting of teats, and generally any other practice including tampering of to their own or any other animal by the exhibitor or any other person which results in the animals being shown other than in a natural state, and the Society reserves the right to have all animals inspected by the Society s Veterinary Officers, either prior to, during, or after judging. 4

5 The Society will not tolerate the administration to show exhibits (entered either for competition or sale/demonstration) of tranquillisers or other drugs which may in any way affect the performance of the animal in question, to have the effect of making it behave in the show ring in a manner which is not natural. The Society reserves the right to take any necessary samples. Any Person or Exhibitor (or his representative) who is found to have administered or permitted the administration of any such tranquilliser or drugs to any Show exhibit will be reported to the Organising Committee, and dealt with at their discretion. In addition the matter will be referred to the appropriate Breed Society or Organisation. Objections must be submitted in written format on the form provided with a deposit of 50. A form can be obtained from the Chief Steward s office. On completion the form should be personally handed to either the Chief Cattle Steward, Cattle Committee or any other Cattle Steward. If, on investigation, the objection is not sustained to the satisfaction of the Committee, the sum thus deposited shall, at the discretion of the Committee, be forfeited to the funds of the Society. All objections must be lodged on the same day as the alleged incident occurred in accordance with the objection regulations, and no objection will be SUBSEQUENTLY received, unless a reason satisfactory to the Committee be assigned for the delay. CATTLE RESTRAINTS Livestock must be under the control of a competent handler at all times and they must use approved restraints which are safe and fit for purpose. Movements on the Showground include areas used by the public and from the cattle lines into the judging rings and handlers must ensure adequate safeguards are in place to prevent an animal from escaping. BULLS EXHIBITORS RESPONSIBILITIES - Suitable equipment must be used when a bull is being handled and led. This is a major health and safety issue. A number of factors, including the breed, past handling and temperament of the bull, will determine which of the following methods is the most appropriate to be used: i two adults, one using a bull pole attached to the bull s nose-ring, and the other using a ii rope or chain attached to the halter or head chain via the nose-ring. two adults both using ropes or chains, one rope or chain attached to a halter, the other either attached directly to the nose-ring or via the nose-ring to the halter. iii one adult using a bull pole attached to the bull s nose-ring and a rope or chain attached to a halter, or head chain via the nose-ring, or iv one adult using a rope or chain attached directly to the nose-ring or via the nose-ring to the halter, with a competent person standing by, able to assist in the control of the bull if necessary. ACCOMMODATION FOR CATTLE Covered accommodation will be provided for all Cattle. Exhibitors to be responsible for their own supply of forage and bedding, however some large heston bales of straw will be provided. Hot and Cold water will be available. EXHIBITORS MUST PLACE THEIR CATTLE IN THE SPACES ALLOCATED TO THEM AND MUST UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MOVE TO OR ENCROACH ON ANY SPACE ALLOCATED TO ANOTHER EXHIBITOR. If Exhibitors have any problems please contact a Steward. MILKING Washing and Milking Facilities are provided. Exhibitors should ensure that facilities are kept as clean as possible, and that rules of hygiene are followed strictly during milking. Milk produced at the Show must be placed in the designated tank as instructed by the Stewards. OTHER FACILITIES Washing Facilities with Showers are provided. GRAND PARADE All First Prize Winners must take part in the Grand Parade on each day and Show Etiquette must be observed at all times. Failure to do so may result in Prize money being forfeited. Handlers must be appropriately dressed in clean WHITE COATS or other BREED SOCIETY APPROVED DRESS. All handlers 14 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. 5

6 BREED SOCIETIES All persons entering, competing or exhibiting an animal in a class covered by a Breed Society either to which the Society is affiliated or which is affiliated to the Society shall be deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the relevant Breed Society and be subject to its constitution and rules (including any disciplinary procedure) insofar as they are applicable to any event, competition or display promoted or arranged by this Society. Exhibitors in Breed Classes must be Members of their respective Breed Societies and all cattle must be Pedigree or in the Grading-up Register. ENTRIES You must send a completed entry form for each individual entry for each Class together with the appropriate fees. Classes marked as a Special do not require an entry or entry fee. If necessary please submit excess entries so that all animals will then have their details entered in the catalogue. Exhibitors should let their respective stewards know that they intend to enter special classes. Anyone unable to attend as an Exhibitor of Cattle, having already entered, should advise the Secretary as soon as possible prior to the Show. CALCULATION OF AGES The age of an animal is calculated as on the day of the Show. EXHIBITOR BRED An animal is defined as Exhibitor Bred if the prefix of the animal is that registered to the exhibitor and the exhibitor was the registered owner/joint owner of the dam at the time of birth and registration. An animal born as a result of embryo transfer is deemed Exhibitor Bred, if at the time of embryo collection, the donor female was in sole or joint ownership of the exhibitor. CANCELLATION, AMALGAMATION OR SPLITTING OF CLASSES The Society reserves the right to cancel or amalgamate (where possible or appropriate) classes where the numbers entered/forward are insufficient to warrant holding separate classes. Where sufficient entries are forward and where appropriate, the Society will have discretion to split classes, eg senior cow and junior cow. JUDGING TIMES The times published may be subject to change depending on the circumstances and numbers forward. Please note it is the responsibility of the Exhibitor to have the correct animal in the correct class at the correct time. Inspection: The highest placed animal on inspection will receive the same total points as the highest placed animal on production. The lowest placed animal on inspection will receive the same total points as the lowest placed animal on production. The judge will then allocate points between these figures at his discretion to each of the other animals in the class. The two sets of points will be added together to give a final total of marks. The highest score will be the winner. All qualifying lactations with a 3 x a day milking will be penalised by 1% for each month for which 3 x a day milking is carried out. Inspection The highest placed animal on inspection will receive the same total points as the highest placed animal on production. The lowest placed animal on inspection will receive the same total points as the lowest placed animal on production. The judge will then allocate points between these figures at his discretion to each of the other animals in the class. The two sets of points will be added together to give a final total of marks. The highest score will be the winner. 4.
