Ninety percent (90%) of young people say they are concerned about the future leadership of America, and two-thirds are more confident in the next generation of leaders than in the leaders they see today. This is according to the 4-H National Youth Survey on Leadership conducted with 1,500 students in grades National 4-H Council released the survey findings on April 12 at a youth -led rally in Washington, D.C. to kick off the 4-H Grow True Leaders Campaign giving young people across the country a forum to put their voices into positive action and rally the nation to invest in the next generation of true leaders. America is facing a critical need for more leaders true leaders who are prepared with the skills to deal with the problems of today and the challenges of tomorrow, said Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO, National 4-H Council. A true leader leads by example, works well with others, tackles tough challenges head-on and sticks with a job until it s done. More than 300 youth gathered at the 4-H Grow True Leaders Rally where they identified specific areas they want more support from adults: hands-on experience in leadership roles, programs to build confidence and regular encouragement to lead. The youth were joined by Grammy award-winning music artist and 4-H National Spokeswoman Jennifer Nettles and 2016 Miss America Betty Cantrell; both are 4-H alumna. With impact numbers that are second to none, 4-H has been the best kept secret for far too long, Sirangelo said. We want more people to know that 4-H was founded with youth empowerment at our core, and we are still a youth empowerment organization with 4-H ers leading all kinds of positive solutions for the diverse issues our country faces today. Registration deadline is July 6. NEW Judging Highlights for 2016 July is just around the corner and it will be time for project judging. Here are some highlights to keep in mind as you begin to prepare for July. 1) Project books must be checked and signed by your 4-H advisor before coming to judging- Bringing an unsigned project book to judging will result in the member receiving a score of Incomplete. 2) Dress Code- Remember that the goal of participating in project interviews is to help 4-H members prepare for future interview situations. With that in mind, members should dress as if they were attending a job or college interview. General appearance should be neat and clean. No t-shirts with inappropriate language or graphics. Jeans or long pants are preferred. Skirts/shorts should reach at least the midthigh. No low-cut tops or visible undergarments. Hats should not be worn during the interview. Examples of appropriate dress: button-down shirts, polos, dressy tops, 4-H club t-shirts, nice jeans, capris, skirts. 3) Incomplete Projects- Receiving a judging score of 64 points or less will cause the project to be scored as Incomplete. Common reasons for an incomplete score might be: unfinished /missing project book, unsigned project book, not bringing required items to judging, or not being prepared to answer questions during the interview. Members who receive a score of Incomplete will be required to correct their issues and come to Make-up Judging (or another judging appointment) in order to receive a passing score. Members who do not come to the second judging or receive a passing score will not be eligible to exhibit at the fair or receive a fair pass. 4-H Express 2 May 2016

3 Suggested Agenda Items for Your 4-H Club Highlight items from the county 4-H newsletter Plan a club community service project Encourage members to consider Ohio state fair participation Invite a camp counselor to promote 4-H camp Encourage members to invite a non- 4-H member to attend camp Explain Animal Project Judging Plan a summer outing or fun day for your club Plan a work day at 4-H camp Help members explore interest areas & learning experiences in the 4-H project books Make plans for members to attend local animal clinics Required Scrapie Tag for Lambs & Goats Scrapies is a fatal degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of sheep and goats. The United States Department of Agriculture s goal is to eradicate this fatal disease by tracking infected animals back to their flocks of origin of birth. An USDA scrapie ID tag will provide the information needed to track an infected animal. All lambs and goats attending the Monroe County Junior Fair will be required to have a USDA scrapie ID tag or tattoo. If you are planning to purchase lambs or goats from a producer make sure the producer s USDA scrapie ID tag has been placed in the animal s ear before you leave their facility. It is the breeders responsibility to make sure the USDA scrapie ID tags are in the animal. It is your responsibility as an exhibitor to make sure they already have a scrapies tag. ** If a breeder needs information about how to get scrapies tags, they can contact the Extension Office for the information.** Monroe County Junior Fair Royalty Application Are you thinking about applying for the 2016 Junior Fair Royalty Court?
