The year may be ending but the officers and directors are just starting. We welcome back most of our board and welcome newcomer Jack Landwher as our membership director. Also, we thank Sean Fox for taking on Vice Commodore (RYC Trivia: 25 years ago, I served as Vice Commodore to Sean s father Mike). The Board will be working diligently to manage the budget, making repairs and improvements to keep our Club up to date and inviting to new members. One of the biggest effects on our budget is new members. We will be working to draw new members in as Racine sees growth here in the next few years. We all have a stake in this and if each of us spread the word, we can build up membership. The more members we have, the easier it is to replace furniture, carpet, update restrooms, improve the yard and dock, etc. Let s see what we can do this winter. Our holiday parties are upon us. The Gobble Wobble was a great success along with Tom & Jerrys on Thanksgiving. It may have been the largest crowd we ve had: generations of families continuing the Thursday morning tradition. Of course we expect to see all again on Christmas morning. Special thanks to all the volunteers mixing, serving and cleaning up that very special concoction. Our New Board Racine, Wisconsin From Teri and me, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. John Stanley, Commodore Our new Board being sworn in. Photo courtesy of Paul Tobias Our summer racing awards party was December 8. Congratulations to all who competed and to the winners. The RYC Youth foundation had their own awards dinner. Instructors, students and family all showed up for food and trophies. Great time was had by all. Kids, and maybe a few adults, are all looking to be back on the water soon. Amy is planning next year s youth sailing program and if it is like this year s, spots will be filling up quickly. Keep a lookout for the blasts from Kim. We don t want you to miss any of the activities around the Club this winter. Awards dinner, children s Christmas party, Tom & Jerrys, and New Year s Eve at the Club. Come down and enjoy your Home on the Lake. 2 RYC News in Brief Meetings/Club Hours From the November Board meeting minutes: Treasurer Frank Randall reported: We lost in adjusted income for the month and are down significantly for the year in adjusted income. Kim had to transfer from savings to cover our yearly insurance premium. We are down this month mainly because of the haul out expense. With savings down, a major expense could push us into using our line of credit. We need to hold down expenses until we can rebuild our reserves again. The Lake Michigan water level fell by an inch in the last month and is at last year s level. It is expected to fall from one to four inches in the next month. From Commodore John Stanley: The Club is prepared for winter and things are going smoothly. Everyone is cautioned to be mindful of the budget and expenditures. John, Bob and Amy planned to meet with the new US Sailing representative on Tuesday, Nov. 12. From Office Manager Kim Shortess: Those who sign checks for the Yacht Club need to fill out forms for the bank. The process has been changed. From Vice Commodore Fritz Wichman: Absent, no report. From Rear Commodore Amy Cermak: A party for the sailing class is scheduled for November 18. Planning has started for the coming season. From Membership Secretary Sean Fox: Not a whole lot of activity this past month. I would like to thank Linda Fox for putting on another great Trick or Treat Movie night! We had a great turnout again and the snacks were fantastic - I was not told to say that either. No new members or resignations this month. Change to inactive status - Jessica Ford From House Director Patrick Sullivan: Things are going well. Shut down is planned for February 4-12 with the Club opening the 13th. Plans need to be made for a new floor in the outside refrigerator. Pat and Kim are exploring water usage and billing issues with the water department. From Pier Director Frank Gall: Work continues machining the piling extensions for the east pier. Plans for next year include making steps for the finger piers, stabilizing the safety ladders and replacing the water pipe. From Yard Director Mike Freitag: The awning on the swing set needs to be replaced. Dean Steger has volunteered to donate a new awning. The entry way canvas needs to be repaired. Future plans include replacing. Mike is evaluating boats in the yard in preparation to bill for winter storage.
