And what you did was magical! Our 100th Anniversary Gala was a success of epic proportions. Starting off the day was our traditional blessing of the fleet, followed by a light lunch while Sandi Fox and crew showed off the new wears for Throughout the week, a tent was set to house this epic event. A flurry of members built a stage and a dance floor and on Opening Day the final flourishes were added to accent this important event. 185 gorgeous women and well-dressed men showed up to experience strolling appetizers to wet their palate, a wonderful sit down dinner where no one went hungry and to finish it off, a little dancing to work off all that great food to the sounds of Swing Nouveau! That sounds incredible, but yet more amazing things happened around the club to accent our 100th Anniversary. Our commemorative paver patio was installed with a center plaque that is like no other. There is still room to add your special paver to leave a piece of history. Additionally, the book RYC Roots, The First Hundred Years was released that brings the history of RYC for the past 100 years to life! Finally, a memorial to Gary Knop that adorns our newly refurbished mast found its permanent home. 3 News in Brief, cont d RYC members are reminded to empty trash containers used under the pavilion after large group gatherings to help prevent late night critters from dumping out trash leaving it for other RYC members to clean up. B ig Brew Day at RYC was held on Saturday, May 7th. This event was sponsored by Jack and Lynn Landwehr featured three local Home Brewers from D.P. Wigley that supplied 20 home brew beers and wines. Several Commercial beverages were also available for tasting. Three beer batches were brewed. The Home Brewers sent out pictures to other Home Brewers celebrating National Big Brew Day with the hashtag Brew with a View.Plans are being discussed to bring back the Home Brewers on Saturday, October 1st. Summer employees are in place to work on the grounds and dock system. Please contact the Yard or Dock Director to discuss work done by RYC summer employees. Summer storage contracts for the Dry Sail Area, front gate storage area and storage racks are to be completed by Friday, June 24th. All water craft or trailers must have a 2016 RYC storage ID sticker. Water craft and trailers without a 2016 RYC ID sticker will be identified and disposed of at the discretion of the Yard Director. Contact RYC office to complete 2016 RYC Boat Storage contract by Friday June 24th. Last year s storage contracts will be automatically renewed. Last year s contracts retain the same storage space. All summer storage areas are ready for RYC members in good standing to fill out contracts and bring down their boats. Gregg Henning shared written feedback from a member concerned about the appearance of the yard and parking lot. Specific concerns included the wind screen, scrap wood on the NW corner of the clubhouse, materials stored around the Sea Scout trailer and doing something to screen the view of the grease trap/tank. Action for all but the last is already planned. From Race Director Bob Sample: As of last week Bob is a member of Mo Wind, a wind surfing organization. Schedule is posted for their wind surfing event. Bob presented two proposals to combine our 10 minute pier and the Sea Scout pier with a launch ramp on the end. Bob plans to buy a $700 automated start system. This system will break even after 3 years due to savings on compressed air c: Work continues to establish a youth foundation. From Entertainment Director Kurt Lasson: Gregg thanked Kurt for his efforts for First Thursday entertainment. This is a lot of loading, setting up, tearing down, etc. for a professional act that is quite popular. Gregg asked for a motion offering Kurt a $50 credit per event to his account in appreciation for this popular event. Bob Sample so moved and Amy Cermak seconded. The motion passed. POS system. Kurt asked for an (Ethernet?) connection so the dining room POS workstation can be moved to the north end of the bar for the Tri Club. Gregg reported the connection is still there but he is concerned that moving hardware sometimes causes problems. Bob Sample concurred. Mark Lukow moved that we purchase a third workstation for approximately $3000. Pam seconded and the motion passed. Juke box waiting on part. Committee Reports HOOK: Registration numbers close to last year at this time. All set for parties and meals. AmericInn motel is 100% booked. Adult Sailing Education: Record 40 people in class. Amy asked Jack to have it moved to the back of the dry sail area. 100th Anniversary Committee: Chip Manning and Steve Wheeler reported that the 100th anniversary book was ready to publish. The draft copies look beautiful. Mark Lukow moved the 100 year committee be authorized to move forward with the printing. John Stanley seconded and the motion passed. Charlie shared a design for a proposed center piece in the commemorative brick yard for board review.john Stanley moved the board approve the design and authorized the expense. Frank Gall seconded and the motion passed. Even with these two expenses 100 year activities are showing a nice gain for the Club. Unfinished Business Gregg reported typical start up issues on the POS system. He has seen servers and bartenders at other locations fly with this software but our team is not there yet. New Business Amy Cermak shared that Columbia YC has a group that wants to cruise here in honor of our 100th anniversary and invites us to cruise there next year for their 125th. Looking for dates. For the Good of the Club Kim was not available to open today. Jackie managed okay but could not make change and had to use Kim s code to access/unlock the POS system. This brings up an open action item from last year s audit about having backup for Kim. Frank Randall is willing to serve as backup. Jack moved Frank be authorized to access necessary drawers and/or secured items. Bob seconded and the motion passed. Addendum: After we adjourned, Jack Landwehr asked Mark Lukow to add an appeal for a chairperson and volunteers for an RYC 4th of July float. 3

The April insert, about the late Bill Richter, was the final piece we did that way. Because we have much more material we incorporated everything, including all the inserts we have already published, into a nicely bound 100+ page book that is now available. Priced at $29.95, it will make a great addition to your library and you will own a piece of our history. Please support your Club by buying a copy or two. 5 The RYC 100th Anniversary Gala Planning for our Centennial Gala started last Fall. Many Club members recalled a great past performance by Swing Neuveau and suggested they return for the Gala. That set the tone for an elegant evening and guided the planning of co-chairs Lynn Landwehr and Carolyn Caruso. In planning the Gala, it was decided that a tent was needed along with a stage and dance floor to accommodate the 17 piece band, lots of dancing and an expected crowd of over 160. Once a budget was established, the next step was to work with Eddie our Club caterer to plan an elegantly served meal and hors d oveurves. Additional planning resulted in the finer details of the event being organized. Tableware, glassware, table clothes, tables, chairs and even additional silverware were required and rented in order to pull the Gala off as envisioned. Meetings were held regulary since January of this year, but the realization of all the planning came on the Tuesday before the gala with the arrival of the tent and other Gala equipment. During subsequent days the stage and dance floor were meticulously constructed by Jack Landwher and crew and the layout for the seating was accomplished. On the day before the Gala, place cards were made out and a seating chart was planned along with ironing of all the table clothes and napkins. Then on Gala Day, the set up of the tent occurred as Club staff and a swarm of volunteers used a three hour window at the close of Opening Day ceremonies to transform the Club from its usual appearance to the elegant setting for a Gala that would see 178 in attendance. The table settings used the Club colors of white and blue which were carried through with specially prepared center pieces from Miller s Flowers. Even the cake, provided by O & H Bakery, featured the Centennial logo. No event of this size could be successful without the help of many volunteers who worked so hard and so long to make it happen. Thanks to Terry Marcus for working with Eddie on the meal and providing extra silverware, table clothes and napkins. Lynn Landwehr coordinated the decorations along help from Vicki Langton, Welcome Sittig, Mary Vandehei all of whom worked on table seating and more. Additional assistance was provided by Andrea Galinski and Sue Weldon. The significant tent preparations were coordinated by Jack Landwehr who also arranged the rental and purchase of all materials. Over several days his workers included Jm Sittig, Mike Langton, Ed Bergles, Dave Szabo, Andy Witkowski, Scott Lewis, Gregg Henning and Joe Caruso. Our own Kim Shortess, handled all the RSVP s including meal choices and seating preferences. Through over a year of Centennial and Gala planning, Paul Tobias supported the effort with design of the Centennial logo and the design of the Gala invitation. Sandy Mott stepped up to design the evening program bill for the Gala tables. At the Gala, Joe Caruso served as emcee, with Commodore Gregg Henning reminding us of the significance of the Centennial while introducing special guests and past commodores. Tony Herrmann provided a beautiful invocation to start the meal. During the band s break, RYC musical talent was showcased by horn performances from Ray Olson and Ed Bergles, while Teri Christensen and Jamie Martin provided vocal selections. The band liked Ray and Ed so much that they invited them to sit in with them on a couple of sets. If you haven t done it yet, go to the RYC Facebook page to see the more than 300 pictures posted there by Amy Lynn Henning who captured much of the evening through her camera. RYC provided members with a number of ways to get involved and be recognized during the Centennial year, while also gently raising money to fund current and future Club projects. Joe Caruso coordinated part of these efforts through the Centennial Captain, engraved paver and photo tile programs. With the first round of 51 engraved pavers received this spring, the patio display came to life with their installation and a featured stainless steel Centen nial emblem. Charlie Manning had Paul Tobias s design produced and he and Commodore Gregg Henning installed the pavers around it with help from Joe Caruso. Sandi Fox, expanded the cub s outstanding wearable and merchandise lines so members, friends and families could sport the Centennial logo this year. At this writing, the next order of engraved pavers and the close of photo tile orders will be coming up toward the end of June and members can contact the RYC office for more details. Again, Paul Tobias is to be thanked for designing the Centennial logo that you saw throughout the year and was used in so many instances. 5
