2 Tony Blake Perpetual Trophy Mercedes III RYCV Commodore Michael McLean presents skipper Martin Ryan and the Mercedes III crew with the first ever print copy of the Tony Blake that depicts Sayonara overtaking Rawhiti off Black Rock during the 1906 Sayonara Cup Challenge Mercedes III, skipper Martin Ryan, and her crew receive the number one print of the Tony Blake Perpetual Trophy from RYCV Commodore Michael McLean The Tony Blake perpetual trophy is awarded to the Classic Yacht with the best series race score aggregated over the calendar year and the Cup Regatta where double aggregated points are awarded to all competing Classic Yachts. For the 2016 award, the point score order was decided by the finishing order of the final Cup Regatta pursuit race. Points score aggregate was close between all contenders. Allocation of the trophy is based on a process known as in race section timing.

The Tumlaren Dingo s consistent performance improvement in all the Race 1 sections gave her the best section corrected time aggregate score and the first on the Race 1 overall corrected time.

Allocation of the trophy is based on a process known as in race section timing. It s a procedure used to calculate corrected times between rounding marks and then re-calculate handicaps for the next section. The Tumlaren Dingo s consistent performance improvement in all the Race 1 sections gave her the best section corrected time aggregate score and the first on the Race 1 overall corrected time. The Handicapper s Trophy is a now perpetual trophy. It will sit with the other CYAA Cup Regatta trophies in the RYCV Trophy cabinet. The trophy was prepared and donated to the CYAA by ship\wright Ferdi Darley. The trophy build features two Acrospire III belaying pins fastened down with seizing used for the recent Sayonara standing rig replacement. The belaying pins are mounted on a facia board made from Ruthean rebuild and a back board of Amora used for the recent rebuild of the Tumlaren Sirrocco. Engraving plates will be added to the trophy courtsey of Greg Blunt. The take home part of the trophy consists of 8 litres and 10 hours of labour donated by Ferdi Darley and a no charge slipping donated by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. Additional Handicapper Trophy take home items were a $150 dinner voucher for the COOKIE restaurant donated by Karen Batson and footware apparel (socks) donated by Phil Endersbee of Wilderness Wear, vendors of quality outdoor clothing. 3 Ferdi Darly, seen with Doug Shields and Dave Allen was the recipient of a Karen Batson COOKIE restaurant voucher in recognition of his Cup Regatta support. The Uira trophy Originally the Major Ballenger Cup, it was only recently recovered. It was won by Uira ( Mr Gideon Palmer) in it's first race at St Kilda after being launched in The trophy was donated back to the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in 1973 by Chas Marshall Pty Ltd for a Tumlaren distance race. Today Uira is under going a full restoration by Peter Denniston, CYAA and RYCV Member 4

A task they put considerable work into. After observing the fllet while racing and while tied up in the RYCV marina. When Oenone was announced a the CYANZ selection for the Concours d Elegance award a big cheer went up. The 2016 Cup Regatta fleet agreed with the decision. The CYAA thanks Tim Phillips and the Wooden Boat Shop for the donation of the 10 ft. traditional float boat hook and their support of the 2016 Cup Regatta. 5

6 2016 Cup Regatta Invitational Event The Guineas When to word was out that Kingurra and Mercedes III were the nominated Classic Yachts for the Guineas invitational event, a team of CYANZ members and honorary members immediately transported themselves on to Kingurra. The opportunity to score points on CYAA President Martin Ryan, skipper of Mercedes III was too good an opportunity to miss. And so it proved to be that opportunity. Although on a boat for boat basis Kingurra had the edge, Mercedes III worked on tactics to keep Kingurra covered, at least at the starts. With a building breeze at the weather mark Kingurra was able to break free of the cover and run home to be first over the line in all races. Mercedes III entered into the spirit of the event by pushing herself hard in the pre race tactics before race two. At mite too hard for some of her crew. A postponement to the Race 2 start was required to allow Mercedes III time to catch her breath. So with a first over the line in all races, the Guineas take home trophy of a hand stiched Sail Gear bag from New Zealand Sail Maker, Bud Nalder, went to Ian MacFarlane of Kingurra. Kingurra slowed down and broke free on to starboard but all to early. Before the start and Mercedes III was able to throw on to starboard and run Kingurra down the line. Inter Association Challenge With no CYAA Challenge team available, the CYANZ team declared themselves the event winners by default. They immediately decamped to Kingurra to take on Mercedes III in the Guineas. 6

Our MC of the evening, Doug Shields, welcomed our Honoured guests Commodore of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria Michael McLean Commodore of the Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club Chris Ackerman Representative of Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron Janet Dean Immediate past Commodore Sponsors: Gordon Tait of Made by Tait, outdoor furniture, Col Anderson of Doyle Sails, Ferdi Darley shipwright of Williamstown, Tim Phillips of the Wooden Boat Shop and Phil Endersbee of Wilderness Wear. A special note of thanks was given to Tony Blake, Marine artist, of the CYANZ for his donation to the Cup Regatta Perpetual Trophy of the oil painting of Sayonara and Rawhiti racing in the 1906 Sayonara Cup A welcome cheer went up for our Cup Regatta visitors and supporters from the Classic Yacht Association of New Zealand. During the presentation another cheer went up to greet the arrival of Phillip Brown, our CYAA NSW representative. The official welcome to all 2016 Cup Regatta participants and supporters was made by CYAA President. Martin Ryan. News that the CYAA Cup Regatta will now be part of the Classic Yacht Regatta s conducted by the British Classic Yacht Club and the Classic Yacht Association of New Zealand was welcomed with a cheer. CYAA President gives the welcome address to the 2016 Cup Regatta Cocktail function and announces the Cup Regatta will be combined with the Cowes UK and CYANZ Regatta events To finish up the evening Treasurer David McKenzie put his auctioneers hat on to manage the vigorous bidding for the Made by Tait voucher offered by Gordon Tait and the Montage of Classic Yachts offered by Mark Chew. Congratulations went to Phil Brown who outbid the field for the Made by Tait voucher and to Doug shields who now has the magnificent Cup Regatta montage. 7
