4 EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN 4 f 30 Purpse The purpse f the Emergency Respnse Plan (ERP) is t prvide guidelines fr the respnse require in the event f an injury, fire r any ther emergency at Barrn Canyn, Bread and Breakfast (B&B) 1. The primary bjective f the Barrn Canyn, Bread and Breakfast Emergency Respnse Plan is t be practive and have a plan in place in the event f an emergency that will minimize injuries, damage, and t prvide assistance t injured persnnel r prperty r public image. This Barrn Canyn, Bread and Breakfast Emergency Respnse Plan utlines specific respnsibilities and recmmendatins in dealing with an emergency r crisis situatin (refer t attachments) The Emergency Respnse Plan will be cmmunicated t all Barrn Canyn, Bread and Breakfast staff including guides, management and wners and available fr viewing at the B&B receptin desk, as well as the staff rm. All Management are in pssessin f ne cpy. If injuries d n permit mvement f the victim, use the nearest telephne r radi t activate the lcal EMS Obtain written accunts frm all witnesses, participants, staff and guests. 5. Prtect the emergency site frm cntaminatin, s that the incident investigatr can get the best pssible data. If a camera is available, take phtgraphs shwing bth details and the whle scene. 6. Outside cntacts shuld be made sner as circumstance warrant greater cncern. 4. Make an alternate plan, especially if requesting a helicpter r ther utside assistance. 5. Send a runner r, if practical a runner team. This grup must include a Barrn Canyn Bread and Breakfast staff r respnsible adult. If pssible, a runner party shuld include fur peple. If this is nt pssible due t risk management reasns, the bdy shuld be secured in a place and the lcatin carefully dcumented. Send fr assistance and ntify base (B&B) Stick t the facts and avid admissins f guilt Wait fr lcal authrities t take cntrl f the scene Direct all media inquiries t the Barrn Canyn B&B s ffice Missing Persn Every attempt will be made t lcate a missing persn in the first 6 hurs f them ging missing befre invlving the necessary authrities. It is fr this reasn that the fllwing actins will be taken immediately after receiving wrd f a missing persn 1. Wendy Tredmre is designated Incident Cmmander (IC) in the event f a missing persn. She in turn designates the fllwing rles t members f the respnse team: Scribe- Field staff n hand (smene available at B&B). This persn is respnsible fr rganizing hasty teams, assigning teams search areas and handing ut equipment. 2. Gather and recrd all available infrmatin n the lst persn. Distribute this infrmatin t search teams. Determine: Pint and time last seen. Mark PLS n map. Try and prtect the PLS frm cntaminatin (i.e. clear area f peple s tracks are seen) What they were wearing Supplies the missing persn had when they went missing If they mentined plans t anyne (interview ther grup members) Hw clearly/what directins (grup plans) were given t them When/where they were t meet If there were any cnfusing trail junctins What type f ftwear they had n Health f missing persn (medicatins required?) Time f day and weather cnditins (weather fr the hurs t cme) Any immediate dangers t missing persn? Pssible mtive fr leaving 3. Cnsider all the abve infrmatin and frmulate a plan (be sure scribe keeps track). Let all search teams knw the plan which shuld include: Areas t be searched first Ensure bvius areas (tent, uthuses, etc) Likely pints f interest Hazard areas Physical features that wuld impede r facilitate a lst persn s prgress (i.e. cliff, swamp, trails) Divide any field staff n hand at B&B and any n trip int a search team(s) Designate team leader(s) and brief n the situatin Set up cmmunicatin prcedures Mnitr frm a central lcatin and check in / ut 4. Quickly set up a cnfinement system t keep lst persn frm ging t far. Use vehicles if practical and available t mve search teams. Wrking quickly ut frm the PLS cnfine a large area (10km radius) and patrl as frequently as pssible. 5. Begin attempts t attract the persn t a knwn pint. Leave ntes at traffic areas.
