2 By Michael Ehle President Hello, my ski club friends! Wow did we have fun at our November party or what? Trillium sounded fantastic. They played some great songs that we all had to dance to! And I was so happy to see all the costumes. At least half of us were dressed up which was great compared to years past! Thank you all for showing up and a double thanks to those who dressed up! I'm sorry for my cousin Billy's behavior; that guy just can't control himself. I received many great comments on the party; it was one for the books! Now December...a busy month for us all... so keep your eye on the Mogul so ya don't miss a thing Our next party on Dec. 6 is more live music so don't miss it. Bring your friends and your dancing shoes! I would like to mention we had our last Tour de Fort bike ride on Nov. 3rd, and I must say for those who missed this ride, it was the most beautiful ride I've ever been on in my life. The trail was covered in leaves and the trees were in perfect fall colors. IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE! I'm sure when I bring up next year's Tour de Fort bike rides, there will be many, many riders. Please join us if you didn't this year. It is a great time for all endurance levels. We have a new Newsletter Director, Jo Buffalino (applause). She has kindly stepped into the position vacated by Deb Farrell. Deb had to step down for personal reasons; it kills me she corrected all my many spelling errors! She did a fantastic job on the Mogul and I want to say thanks Deb for a outstanding job and for her service! (applause). Soooo, get your skis tuned up and let s get ready for the new season!!! FROM THE EDITOR S DESK Thanks, Michael, for your intro and kind words. For those of you who may not know me, I am Jo Buffalino, long-time member of FWSC and former Mogul editor. I am excited about taking on this challenge and am open to any and all suggestions and/or ideas to help make our Mogul relevant to what is happening in our club and in the ski world in general. One idea I have is a meet-the-member column. I would like to highlight 2-3 members each month, both new Members and long-time members. Also I would like to use this space for announcements, changes, corrections, and comments from members. Please don t hesitate to approach me with your thoughts. 8 INDIANA SKI COUNCIL Boyne Highlands Michigan Family Trip & Race Weekend February 7-9, 2014 This season our annual ISC weekend will be at Boyne Highlands near Petoskey, Michigan. This will be an exciting weekend of racing and fun for families and friends in one of Michigan s Premier Ski Resorts. Your ski club will be defending their honor against other Indiana ski clubs in this low key racing environment. Come and participate in racing or cheer on your club s racers. Accommodations will be at the Main Lodge or Bartley House at Boyne Highlands. Some clubs will be arranging bus trips while others may drive up together. This weekend will include Friday and Saturday night lodging, weekend lift ticket, 2 breakfasts and Saturday Night Banquet Dinner. Lift tickets are good for Friday 4:30-9PM, Saturday 9AM-9PM & Sunday 9AM-4PM. Weekend Package Rates: 2 adults per room = $325 per person Additional adults in room = $190 per person Children 16 and above fall into the adult rate Children 9 to 15 years old with 2 adults per room = $165 Children 8 years old and younger receive free lodging and lift tickets with 2 adults in room (no meals) Ages 60 and over will receive an ISC discount of $10 each Ages 70 and over or non-skiers receive a $70 weekend discount from Boyne Cross-country skiers may receive a $15 per day refund from lift tickets Tentative Itinerary: Friday Check in at the Main Lodge after 5 PM. Some skiers arrive early so they can enjoy skiing after 4:30 PM. Saturday- Breakfast and register per your age and category for racing by 9 AM if you have not already registered. The ISC will have hot chocolate on the race hill. Join the complimentary ISC Ski Après outdoor party with snacks and beverages including Micro Brews on tap at 5 PM at the heated pool after skiing. The Banquet Dinner with awards will be held at 7 PM in the Main Lodge. Racing Categories: A Class B Class C Class D Class (you will be broken up into ability, age and gender brackets) Expert ski racer best of 2 runs on both courses Advance ski racer best of 2 runs on both courses Intermediate ski racer best of 2 runs on both courses First time ski racer best of 2 runs on both courses Please provide your NASTAR Number along with your age (this will assist the race workers and allow you to gain NASTAR points). A Dual Giant Slalom course will be set. Your accumulated combined fastest time per course will determine your position within class based on age and skill level. The points accumulated from this racing will go towards the ISC championship & Robert Burns Memorial Club Award. Additional Fun Possible: NASTAR National Handicap Racing Saturday & Sunday at 1 PM. Boyne offers dogsled rides and horse drawn sleigh rides. Tubing park, skier cross course and cross country skiing are also available. You can also stop on your way up or back at Boyne Mountain to ski with the same weekend lift pass. Avalanche Bay Indoor Water Park is also a fun alternative at Boyne Mountain. More info at: Sunday Breakfast, return to the slopes for a fun day of skiing with your friends and family. Checkout is 1 PM. A $100 deposit per person (or full payment) by November 15, 2013, with remainder due before January 1, The date the deposit is received (first come - first serve) can determine where your lodging will be.
