1 Grand Lagoon Yacht Club June Gulf Beach Hwy, Pensacola, FL Like us on Facebook at Grand Lagoon Yacht Club (group) Commodores Corner Summer has arrived and your GLYC has plenty going on. We have a large number of members on their boats rafting up at Fort McCrea. Some will spend the entire Memorial Day weekend at the Fort. If you who would like to visit for the day, contact Mike Odom or Terry Smith for the details. A beautiful setting with good friends, great food, plentiful drinks, hard to beat. We have arranged for our donated Gazebo to be painted and it should be ready to assemble in the near future. Our new playground equipment has arrived, look for a sign up sheet to assemble soon. We need lots of volunteers and participation for the upcoming Bill Hargreaves Fishing Rodeo Tournament. We have joined with Ronald McDonald House and it looks like we are expecting one of the largest yet. The Hargreaves Tournament is the longest running fishing tournament n the Pensacola area. Lets carry on the tradition with lots of donations for the silent auction. The tournament will be on Fathers Day weekend. See you there, Ronnie Day P.S. Happy Birthday, Betty Zelius! The Vice s Voice We have opened May with a NEW MENU on the 4th. We have received many Good and just a few Not So Good comments. There are a few items which we are considering returning to the Menu. The Mother's Day Buffet was a great hit with everyone; we had delicious food with lovely decorated tables for our special Moms. And it goes without saying, our service was excellent. We are asking everyone to please sign the Sign-Up Sheet for all of our special events so our staff may continue to provide all of our members with the best food and service. We will be offering several special events on Saturdays in June. Watch for more info to follow. REMEMBER we appreciate knowing if there are any problems or if you have any suggestions, so please fill out the Comment Card on the tables. We will try to correct them as soon as possible. Florida liquor laws require members of private clubs to sign in and remain with guests at all times. Failure to do this can result in the loss of our license. Also, we have changed our sign-in book. We ask that you list your name, GLYC number, your guests names and their addresses. Maybe we can pick up a new member or two! 1

3 BILL HARGREAVES FISHING RODEO The brochures and tickets have been delivered to the bait shops and tickets are available at GLYC. We have a great prize structure again this year and we are looking forward to the 46 th Annual Hargreaves Tournament Father s Day weekend. Please make all of your friends and neighbors aware of this great event. I would like to have a Rodeo Committee Meeting at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at GLYC to review/discuss assignments for the weekend. If you want to help please attend this meeting and we will find an assignment for you. Also Valerie Hawkins is putting together the silent auction again this year. If you have any items she could use please deliver them to her or Mary Ann at the clubhouse. Again thanks to all of you who have spent your time and money for the Hargreaves. CRAPPY CRAFTER CORNER Our May outing was the Little Zoo in Gulf Shores. What fun that place is. We only had 8 of us, but still had a great time. We did our lunch at the Original Oyster Bar.

In July is our Dirty Santa so watch for Cheri s announcements on that, too. Our Biloxi trip, well, D 'Iberville trip, to the Scarlet Pearl was a huge success.

Yummy as always. Next month, on the 14th (which happens to be Flag Day), we ll be doing fun crafts, so bring your ideas or let Cheri know your ideas, and she ll put an out to our group. We had a full bus and lots of winners in Bingo and 50/50 going over. 50/50 was won by Karen DuBois for $ Our Bingo winners with $19.00 each, were Karen (again), Gini Beran, and Cat McCreary. Coming back, 50/50 for $66.00 was won by Anthony Sclease. Wanna thank our Bartender, Mike, and his bar back, Marti Miller (Georgia couldn t attend due to family obligations), who kept Mike s legs from getting sticky. She brought the mimosas, Diane Sayler for the cheese cake shots, and Staff Pulford, again, for the Bloody Marys. Thanks, again, y all for your help. I couldn t have done without y all. Our next casino trip will be the 3rd Tuesday in September, the 19th. We re tossing around the idea of doing an overnight to Biloxi which will include 3 casinos, one room, $20.00 free play for each casino, and meal tickets for around $40.00 a person. If anyone is interested, I d like to get a show of hands to see if it s feasible. If we don t have enough interested bodies, we ll do the regular. Let me know, too, which casino y all would like to go to. We don t have any May birthdays, but in June we have Emma on the 22nd, Norma on the 25th, and our most favorite person ever Mrs. Betty Zelius on the 24th. She ll be an amazing 94 years old. 5 June 1 officially starts Hurricane Season and we ve already had several rough storms. Stop by and check on your lines. We will schedule a workday soon to get the Club ready for the Bill Hargreaves Fishing Rodeo, so be on the look out for the sign up sheets. Currently, we are full on dry slips and east side wet slips. There are several nice wet slips available on the west side. If you are wanting a dry or east side slip, please make sure you are on the waiting list posted on the bulletin board. Any available slips will be assigned according to the waiting list. As the weather improves and more people begin to use the ramp, please refrain from parking in the loading/unloading zone near the ramp. Any long term parking should use the top lot. Lastly, a gentle reminder to please keep your pets under control and clean up after them when at the Club. With every warming day, it s looking more and more like boating season. See you on the water! Commodore s Clean-up Comment: If you have been catching instead of fishing please place the fish and bait remains over the side at the T Pier. Keeps the crabs and sharks away from the beach. Also, please carry your trash to the DUMPSTER. The unlined trash cans under the club are for special events. Thanks to all for picking up after yourselves and helping to keep the club looking good. 6 Fleet Captain s Notes The GYA Cape Deville is a series of races across 33 Yacht Clubs of which 11 showed up for the BYC Spring Regatta. Members of the GLYC Race team, Lisa Burrus, Terry Barker, and Mike Odom, made a showing and mixed it up with 10 other GYA teams. The GLYC team finished 10th out of 11 clubs that showed and the remaining 22 yacht clubs finished behind us in the series. The GLYC Cruisers supported the event with Leigh-Way being on station to host GLYC and MYC folks during Saturdays races. As we packed up to move our Flying Scot to Fairhope for next weekends GYA Opening regatta everyone expressed how much they enjoyed the event. The GLYC Race team will participate in the GYA Opening regatta at Fairhope Yacht Club on 5/21-5/22. Crew members include Nancy Norris, Kim Edens, Steve Payne, and Mike Odom. Plan to come over to FYC and support the team if you have time. On June I will be at the club teaching junior sailing year old individuals are eligible to participate. The focus will be on sailing, safety, first aid, and team building through interactive challenge games. There is limited space so If you have someone in your family who wants to come and spend a few days getting wet get in touch with Mary Ann and let her know. A swim test will be required. Participants must be able to pass in order to participate. Life Jackets are required on the docs and near the water. I want to express my appreciation to our Sailing Team committee Ken McDonald, Laurence Donelan, Joe Cook, Terry Smith, Bill McMillan, and John and Hanna Adams. Their support is critical in keeping the sailing program going. Mike Odom Fleet Captain GLYC=PADDLING FUN! The first paddle out for our GLYC group was last week, and it was great fun for the three of us that headed out on a beautiful day on calm water. We are putting together a group to go out once week either on paddle boards, kayaks or canoes or a paddle boat! Come on and join us Thursday mornings at 8:30 am, leaving from GLYC. It's fun and easy! It gives members a chance to have uninterrupted conversations and to keep the children from roaming around the dining room. It works well but it must be maintained to keep it looking attractive. If you have children with you or your group before you leave the club with the children be sure to inspect the KIDS COR- NER with them to insure they have cleaned up and stored all toys properly.
