While the majority of us deal with them in an adult way it is possible to act inappropriately. It has come to my attention that some of our members, and /or their guest, are at times, less than courteous to our staff or other members. This is especially true on some of our busy times around the boat ramp or in conjunction with alcohol. If you happen to be a person who, at times, forgets how to hold your tongue and becomes part of the problem rather than part of the solution, I encourage you to remember this is a family environment and unacceptable behavior is not tolerated. If you have problems understanding this, I suggest you act as you would if your grandmother and young children are listening to you. If that does not help, I will show you to the door. Get to know your fellow members, participate in activities and be safe on the water. Mike Odom Commodore, GLYC The Vice s Voice July is behind us, and the dog days of Summer are ahead. This is the perfect time to take advantage of the cooling breezes on the deck to have some liquid refreshments with your friends and families. We're trying something new for Taco Tuesday-a taco bar! Build your own and eat all you want for one low price. We hope this will speed up service on Tuesdays and allow non-taco orders to come out of the kitchen and onto your tables faster. On bar orders, our bar staff asked me to remind you unless you want two drinks, only order from one server. If you tell two different ones, you will end up with two drinks! I hate when that happens, don't you? As problems go, that's not a bad one, though. We have several activities coming up in the near future. In addition to the up-coming raft-ups, our Fleet Captain's " No Motor Regatta" will be a great way to get cool and have fun on the water. Also, the "Cheeseburger and a Pair o Dice" looks to be another fun event for our Down Under space, and the Biloxi bus trip will be a wonderful opportunity for a day outing with your GLYC friends. Check out the calendar and other articles in this issue for times, dates, and other details. We should be getting some GLYC t-shirts soon to go with our golf shirts and caps. These are great ways to show your GLYC pride and let other people know you are part of a special community. When you wear them, you'll be surprised at how many people will want to talk to you about our Club. That's all for now. See you at our Club! Countess Guiles Vice Commodore Remember to sign all of your guests in! Florida liquor laws require members of private clubs to sign in and remain with guests at all times. Failure to do this can result in the loss of our license. Also, we have changed our sign-in book. We ask that you list your name, GLYC number, your guests names and their addresses. 1 Maybe we can pick up a new member or two!

3 From the Fleet Captain Pricing Change for Non-Members We have had a lot of guests in the club which is excellent and in no way do we want to discourage their interest in the club. It is through guests visiting the club that we gain new members and meet new friends. The board is keenly aware of the value to you as members, and the club as a whole, when we can have guests participate in our enjoyment and enriching our lives. However, it is likely that you all may not know how much our services, drinks and meals are subsidized by our dues. The board has wrestled with this issue and decided we would ask guests, who are enjoying the club, to aid us in this subsidy. Our first desire would be that they submit an application for membership, but until they make that decision we have decided to add a 20% surcharge to all payments made without a member number. We will add information to the menu and begin this process in September. Please help our guests understand the reasons for this and how much we appreciate their support. This change will take effect Friday, September 1. Board of Governors Reminder - $25 Minimum Monthly Fee for Bar/Galley Please be aware that the Grand Lagoon Yacht Club imposes a $25 minimum monthly fee for the bar/galley. This means that each member number must spend a minimum of $25 each month for this fee to be waived. Example: A member spends $10 for the month on either bar or galley but has not met the monthly minimum of $25. This member will be assessed the $25 minimum month- Summer Sailing Camp Our sailing camp was a huge success, graduating sixteen campers. Thirteen in the minnow class: Mason Barshov; Lilly Daisy Brooks; Cullen Keaton Chaney; Muriel Annabelle Cutshaw; Lyla Greene; Nick Heinold; Libby Miller; JC Phillips; and Bryan Williams. We had three campers graduate from the next level up the Snapper level. Tori Greene and Sydney Tyler Williams. Sailing camp would not have happened without the incredible time and support of the volunteers which included: Mike Odom and Terry Barker working with the older campers; Joe Cook, Mark Heinold, Bill McMillan Sharon Barger assisting me with the younger campers; Terry Smith, Jimmy Taylor, JD Brooks Bob Grabham running their powerboats to follow the sailors around the Lagoon; and MOST HELPFUL were Jeannie and Melinda Williams assisted by Cheri Honeycutt, who provided games, activities and snacks for all the campers throughout the entire three days. Lecture Series Sailing Around the World in Six Years Tues. Aug 8th 6:30-8 pm. Kennedy McLeod, a member of Fairhope Yacht Club will be joining us to tell of his six year adventure sailing around the world. We were given his name by someone who heard him speak at the Pensacola Singles Sailing Club and declared his lecture fascinating, amazing, you need to hear this. GLYC Sailing Team We have completed six regattas through July and have just one in August which is an all women's regatta at the Pass Christian Yacht Club on August 12th 13th. Labor Day weekend means the Lipton Cup Regatta which is also at Pass Christian. We need lots of racers for this weekend, so if you have any interest, please let me know. Jet Skiing Our July outing was to Peg Leg Pete s at Pensacola Beach. Our August trip will be on Saturday, August 19th at 10 am possibly to a location in Alabama. Islanders Raft-Up Labor Day Weekend - Depending on the weather forecast this will be at either Sailboat cove or Fort McRae. Please see Terry Smith for additional information. Kayaking Every Thursday Morning at 8:30 Contact Susan Arner if you have any questions about this. Please come out and paddle. Regatta Anything That Floats and Doesn t Have an Engine Sunday, Aug 20th This will include anything that floats and does not have an engine; sailboats, paddleboards, kayaks, dinghies, whatever you come up with. We will have separate classes for each type of vessel. Members will be encouraged to place bets for the winners of each class which will be 50/50. Winners of each class will compete in a race off at the end and new bets can be placed at that time. This will be similar to the Redneck Regatta where the betting is concerned but will involve water, wind, sand, sunshine and tons of FUN. 3 Lindy Kirkpatrick, Fleet Captain

Thanks go out to Jim Helton, Mike Odom and Bill McMillian for putting the finger pier back in at number 35 slip. Big thank you from all of us to Eric Ericson and all those who helped put on the outstanding fireworks display for our July 4th celebration. Great job folks!!! We are continuing to get the sprinkler system working properly to help get the grass and flower beds looking better. We added two badly needed handicapped parking spaces out front. Have already had some positive feedback from our members. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet our new members last weekend at the New Member reception. If there is anything I can help you with don t hesitate to call. There are several slips available on the east side of the dock as well as several on the west side for smaller boats. Please don t park in the loading and unloading area at the ramp. Any long term parking should use the upper parking lot. Please keep your pets on a short leash and under control. Please clean up after them. Finally thanks to all the volunteers who work so hard to make the club a better place. See you at the club! CRAPPY CRAFTER CORNER Another month over already. Summer sure does fly by when you re having fun on the water and on the deck at the Club with friends. Our July gathering was our infamous annual Christmas in July with 15 ladies getting together with fun gifts to pick or steal and the great buffet. How could it not be fun. Our August gathering on the 8th will be Painting with Meg. So get out your Crappy Crafter apron and wait for details from Cheri closer to the date. I just booked our Biloxi trip for the 19th of September to the Golden Nugget. Our Bookie Georgia has the sign up sheet at the Bar and we ve already got the bus half full so sign up quick and enjoy the fun ride over with shots, Dean s rum punch, Bingo, and our bartender, back by popular demand, Georgia (with her barback, Mike). Forty members and guests came out for fun with their GLYC friends. There were lots of ties, so it took longer than normal to sort things out. Last Bunco was Blake Barker who also was one of ten Half and Half winners: Emma Robinson, Donice Baker, McKenzie Winslett, Susan Arner, David Keefe, Janice Grabham, Kyle Orangio, Steele Segrest, and Shari Sparby. Six shared Third Place: Leigh Odom, Met Matson, Don Arner, Norma Jolly, Dean Hoffman, and Lisa Over. Five came in Second: Marti Miller, Carolyn Saal, Debbie Burnard, Giania Wyatt, Stephanie Barshov, and Terry Barker. Most Wins was taken by Christine Toole. Most Buncos went to both Marti Miller and Leigh Odom. Come out August 3 for the next round of fast, fun, easy to learn Bunco. And bring your friends and neighbors! 6
