1 Pedestrian Count Report December 2017 A pedestrian counting survey was commissioned in December 2017 following on from a survey completed in October The count involved the setting up of cameras at eleven sites and a manual count based on video recorded for twenty four hours a day over a seven day period. The eleven sites are identified in table 1 below. A map of the count locations can be seen in Figure 1 Below. Table 1 Count Locations Site number Location Friday 8th Dec to Thursday 14th Dec Kyrls Quay & North Main Street Junction The total number of pedestrians walking from and to North main street at the junction of Kyrls Quay and North Main Street 2 Oliver Plunkett Street outside GPO The total number of pedestrians walking up and down Oliver Plunkett Street outside the GPO 3 Emmet Place Outside Opera House The total number of pedestrians Walking up and Down Emmet place outside the Opera House. 4 Paul Street The total number of pedestrians walking up and down Paul Street outside the Bank of Ireland on Paul Street. 5 South Mall Northern Footpath The total number of pedestrians walking up and down the Northern Footpath East of Pembroke Street on South Mall. 6 South Mall Southern Footpath The total number of pedestrians walking up and down the Southern Footpath East of Pembroke Street on South Mall. 7 Winthrop Street The total number of pedestrians walking up and down Winthrop Street. 8 Daunt s Square The total number of pedestrians in both directions walking through Daunt s Square at the junction of Daunt Square and Paul Street. 9 Saint Patrick Street (North of Daunt Square) The total number of Pedestrians walking up and down St Patrick Street on both sides of the road North of Daunt Square. 10 Grand Parade (South of Daunt s Square) The total number of pedestrians walking up and down St Patrick Street on both sides of the road South of Daunt s Square. 11 St Patrick Street (South of Saint Patricks Bridge) The total number of pedestrians walking up and down St Patrick Street on both sides of the road at the junction of St Patrick Street and Lavitts Quay. 1

4 The flows recorded for each of the seven days in December 2017 from Thursday the 7 th of December to Thursday the 14 th December 2017 are outlined in table 3 below. The October data is as per previous report. 4
5 These comprehensive pedestrian counts carried out are a snapshot in time and as such, further counts are required to determine the upward or downward trends in pedestrian activity throughout the city. Further pedestrian counts will be carried out throughout 2018 to establish these trends. A comparison of previous counts is shown below.
