1 Season 2018/19 #4 Latest Round-ups: Midweek Action: Bitton s perfect start to the season continued on Tuesday evening after they ran out 2-0 winners at home to Roman Glass St George. An individual effort from Mario Mateus set the home side on their way, before Scott Brice doubled their advantage with a 24 th minute effort. Westbury United also maintained their winning start, with goals from Jordan Pinder and Callum Demkiv helping them to defeat Shortwood 2-1 for whom Josh Beadle struck a fine free-kick before the break. Brislington s first three points of the season came at the hands of Chipping Sodbury, with Oaklan Buck and Michael Rimmer both scoring braces for the home side during the 6-0 win. Buckland Athletic were another side to grab their first win, with goals from Les Afful and Graham Mercieca firing them to a 2-1 triumph over Bridport at Homer s Heath. Odd Down also came out on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline, with Ash McGrane s double leading them to victory over Hengrove Athletic. At Moorhouse Lane, Bridgwater Town secured a dramatic 2-1 win away at Hallen, with Jake Brown and Charlie White scoring in the final three minutes to overturn Matty Davis opener. The following evening, Plymouth Parkway scored five for the second time this season, handing Wellington a 5-0 defeat at Bolitho Park. The home shot out of the traps and were two goals to the good after just nine minutes, with a pair of headed goals from Mikey Williams and Stewart Yetton. A third goal just before half-time from Aaron Bentley put the result beyond doubt, with second half efforts from Mike White and Yetton completing the scoring. At Springfield, Bradford came from behind to defeat Cadbury Heath 4-1, with Matt Huxley firing home an early penalty for the Heath. Two goals in the space of three minutes from Jack Witcombe and Martin Lenihan turned the game in Bradford s favour, with Jake Hiscocks then striking twice after the break to complete the victory. Cheddar returned to winning ways in the on Tuesday evening, coming from behind to defeat Bishops Lydeard 3-2 at Bowdens Park. Ryan Brereton and Harry Millar had both struck to hand the visitors a 2-1 lead early in the second half, but it was the Cheesemen who came out on top thanks to a brace from Adam Jones and a 25-yard freekick from Ricky Bennett. Wells City grabbed their second away victory in the space of four days, with goals from Harry Davidson, Jack Spence and Billy Manning helping them come from behind to defeat Keynsham Town 3-1 after the home side had taken a second minute lead through James Ollis. Longwell Green Sports were in fine form during their home victory over Portishead Town, with Danny Carter, Connor Britton, Sam Ford and Ali Bamford all getting on the scoresheet to help them to a thumping 5-0 win at Shellards Road.

2 : Jack Taylor produced a stunning five-goal performance to help his Bridgwater side defeat Brislington 6-0. It took 33 minutes for Taylor to open the scoring, with the frontman then doubling his side s advantage ten minutes later following a cross from Tom Ellis. The third Bridgwater goal came from the left boot of David Thorne, with Taylor completing his hat-trick in the 51 st minute before adding a further two goals in the closing stages. Clevedon Town secured their third straight league win, with goals either side of the interval from Callum Kingdom and Lucas Vowles helping them to defeat Cribbs 2-0. : In an astonishing encounter at Bristol Road, 11 goals were scored, with Radstock Town eventually defeating Portishead 6-5. The first-half was a quiet affair in comparison to the second, with the sides heading to the changing rooms level at 2-2, with Kyle Norris scoring twice for Radstock in response to goals from Chris Abbot and Robbie Cox for the hosts. Norris then completed his hat-trick soon after the interval, with further goals from Sam Gregory and Jacob Hill to extend the visitors lead. Portishead responded thanks to Cox s second of the afternoon, but Radstock hit back once again with Norris firing home his fourth from the penalty spot, not long after he had seen an earlier effort from the spot thwarted. Portishead continued to push forward and grabbed two late goals, with Cox completing his hat-trick, before Hamish Hurst scored the 11 th and final goal during a pulsating 90 minutes of action. It was a successful day all round for the visiting teams in the First Division, with Welton Rovers claiming a 2- Action from Corsham s 5-0 win away at Bishops Lydeard, courtesy of John Cuthbertson. 0 win away at Warminster Town thanks to goals in either half from Aaron Seviour and Dave Cooper. Having fallen behind at the beginning of the second half, the Sods were staring down the barrel, only for Steve Fitzpatrick and Justin Bishop to pop up with goals in stoppage time to claim a famous victory. 4 Shortwood United 1 Westbury United 2 Tuesday 21st August 2018 Latest Match Report Shortwood United came within a mistimed volley of causing a major upset on Tuesday night when going down 2-1 at home to early pace setters Westbury United at Meadowbank writes Kerry Miller. It was so cruel on the young home side who had been clattered in their first three games in the new surroundings of the Western League and who played some superb football with the front three using blinding pace and width to cause the visitors no end of problems and it was they who were well pleased to hear the final whistle. United were bolstered by the inclusion of former players Luke Barstow, Joey Tustain and James Cole, who was described by one supporter as possibly as old as the front three put together but they marshalled things for an hour with man of the match Barstow magnificent at the back. They had the task of keeping out the forward line which was hungry for a glut of goals which would have put them top of the table, above Bitton who were busy beating Roman Glass St George at the same time. The leylandii trees alongside the ground have now grown high enough to block the view of Forest Green Rovers ground a few hundred yards away across the valley and what noise was coming from their epic 0-0 draw with Stevenage was lost in the autumn breeze as Shortwood showed the Division One champions they were not there as shooting targets. Despite that Westbury came out of the blocks quickly and inside four minutes were a goal up as Ricky Hulbert s power got him away and his accurate cross was swept in by Jordan Pinder from eight yards. Wood s youngsters responded well and Marcus Beddington got clear before throwing in a wicked cross which was just cleared then quickfire Jamie Walker put over another inch perfect cross for Barstow to nod over from close range with Ed Baldy beaten in the Westbury goal. Jamie Jordan and Callum Demkiv both went close to doubling the advantage then Hulbert brought a fine save out of Adam Thomas until Shortwood escaped briefly and showed what they could do with Joey Tustain driving wide after more quick passing from wide out. Having survived the initial onslaught and gained a foothold in the game the home side were dealt a body blow seven minutes from the break when Demkiv latched on to a stunning through ball and lobbed Thomas in style to make it 2-0 and possibly have one hand on the floodgates. They never opened and with Cole and Barstow experience and the youthful running up front the game began to change with Dan King seeing plenty of the ball the visitors were often stretched and from one such attack Steve Hulbert gave away a free-kick and home skipper Josh Beadle, son of Hereford boss Peter, curled a beauty past the static Baldy to halve the deficit to the delight of the home support, just short of half-time. It could easily have been 2-2 seconds later as Bennington and Walker created an overlap but Barstow couldn t get his header on target and Westbury survived. Predictably the visitors were all over Shortwood at the resumption but the defence soaked up the pressure and Bennington again fed Walker but his fierce cross missed everyone including the impressive Dan King and went wide. Westbury were playing some strong football of their own and Dan Kovacs moved inside to test Thomas who saved well for a corner then the same man nodded over from close range. With Westbury beginning to show signs of frustration Shortwood almost struck when a fine move from the back ended with substitute Jack Gardner volleying over when clear on the back post but that was as good as it got for Wood who walked off to richly deserved applause.
