Reduced to ten men after thirty minutes they fell behind to a well taken Will Tickle goal in the second half before Brockenhurst also suffered a red card. Jesse Waller-Lassen claimed a spectacular equaliser close on stoppage time and the Students went on to take the penalty shootout five four. A long way from a previous shoot out involving Brockenhurst when they and Andover Town converted twenty-nine consecutive kicks before a miss ended the tie. Tuesday saw games in a variety of Competitions with two League games to start the ball rolling. AFC Portchester beat Hamworthy four one, two goals for Steve Ramsey, and in Division One Brett Denham claimed four in Tadley s seven nil defeat of Pewsey, a win that moves the North Hampshire side up to fifth place. Three League Cup games and Alton s woes continued as they went down nine nil to Baffins in the replayed League Cup Tie. Ryan Pennery followed up Saturday s hat trick with four with Tyler Moret and Callum Dart notching two apiece. In the other ties Bashley defeated Fawley by three goals to nil and Downton beat Premier Division Bournemouth five one with Dan Telfer scoring twice. The Russell Cotes Cup appeared on the Agenda for the first time with five ties. Hamble Club claim first mention with a highly creditable four one win over AFC Totton with two more goals for Doug Rowe, Will Harris also scored twice in Romsey s four nil win at Follands as did Dan Mason for Sholing as they progressed with a three goal victory over New Milton. The other two ties went to penalties with Stoneham going through against QK Southampton after sharing four goals in the ninety minutes and Lymington going out at Moneyfields after coming from two goals down to be level at the end of normal time. Finally, Fareham beat Fleetlands in the Portsmouth Senior Cup and Amesbury went through in the Salisbury Hospital Cup after an extra time victory over Laverstock and Ford. Four more games on Wednesday with Verwood s poor run continuing as Alresford scored four times in the opening half hour to reach the Second Round of the League Cup. The remaining matches were all in the Russell Coted Cup with Jack Slade scoring twice in Bemerton s five nil victory at Andover New Street and Will Gange also claiming two as a youthful Whitchurch side defeated Hampshire Premier League Winchester Castle by the odd goal in five. The other Hampshire Premier side involved on the night, Bush Hill, fared better by going through on penalties after holding
3 3 Christchurch to a one all draw at Hurn Bridge. Also on Wednesday congratulations to Andover Town Youth who won their third game in this season s FA Youth Cup by beating Gosport Youth three nil at Privett Park as it was!) They now face Oxford City at home. There were fourteen sides taking part in the First Round Proper of the FA Vase but with two all- Wessex ties there were bound to be two going out. In the event seven sides will go into Monday s draw though Bemerton face a trip to Devon for a replay with Plymouth Parkway before they can cement their place, following a two all draw at Western Road, Alresford came from three down to beat Lingfield five three at Arlebury Park but all the other victories were achieved on the road. Team Solent had the longest trip, to Helston in Cornwall, and any versions of the Floral Dance this evening will be rather muted after two Tyrell Mitford goals gave the Students victory by the odd goal in three. Andover won two one at Fairford with two early goals whilst Jamie White scored both goals for Blackfield at Street with the home side failing to trouble the scorers, In the two all-wessex ties Shaftesbury pulled off a fine three one win at Stoneham and Portland proved too strong for Romsey at the By-Pass ground, winning by the odd goal in five. On the debit side Kent League Corinthian scored the only goal of the game at Alton as did Brimscombe and Thrupp at Amesbury, Horndean travelled to Horsham and shared four goals in the ninety minutes before losing to a single goal in extra time and Sholing went down three nil at home to a very useful Buckland Athletic. Finally, Bournemouth found Western League Melksham Town too strong at Victoria Park with the visitors scoring three times without reply. With so many Clubs involved in the Vase there was a shortened Premier Division Programme in which Hamworthy took centre stage with a Steve Smith goal giving them victory at leaders Moneyfields. Brockenhurst moved into fourth place after defeating Whitchurch and two Kabba Jack goals helped Bashley to a four nil win over bottom of the table Verwood. On the Island Newport and Fawley could not muster a goal between them a good point for the visitors - whilst Cowes defeated Lymington by three goals to two. In Division One there was an equally surprising result as Ringwood defeated high flying Laverstock and Ford by eight goals to three, hat tricks for Lee Vint and Peter Richmond-Cole, and Hamble scored two very late goals to overcome Tadley and retain their top spot. Baffins continue to sit on their tale with Tyler Moret claiming three in the four nil win at Hythe and Dibden whilst Totton and Eling still cannot stop scoring goals claiming five more against Andover New Street. Fleet Spurs made the long trip to Weymouth and went down five three, the improving East Cowes lost by the odd goal in three at Christchurch, Follands enjoyed a four goal victory over Pewsey and last but not least US Portsmouth and New Milton shared four goals at the Victory Stadium. So further progress to be made in the Vase and as autumn turns to winter the League continues apace. To quote the fabulous Hollies from last night. it s a long, long road with many a winding turn. The Bucks had eliminated the Boatmen in the second-round stage last year after a 2-1 extra time victory at Homers Heath and made it back-to-back knock-outs thanks to goals from Charlie Johnson, Richard Groves and Marc Revell. Charlie Johnson opened the scoring for Buckland in the 39 th minute after smashing a loose ball from a free kick into the top corner from 18 yards. Groves doubled the lead in the 84 th minute after a tidy finish from 18 yards, while Revell confirmed the victory two
9 9 minutes later by scoring ten seconds after he came on. Skipper Byron Mason saw red in the closing stages after receiving two quick bookings for dissent. The home side started on the front foot as Kevin Brewster s deep ball was beautifully taken down on the chest by Jamie Bulpitt and the midfielder s shot fell to Dan Mason, whose ambitious overhead kick flew over the bar. A lovely onetwo between Dan Mason and Jamie Bulpitt found space for the former, who created a shooting opportunity but dwelled too much and allowed Simon Laughton to get back in time to block his effort. Barry Mason s attempt was foiled by Grant Fisher in the visiting goal, while the Bucks began producing some goal-scoring chances for themselves Richard Groves coercing some excellent defending from Pete Castle. The impressive Lloyd Gardner was causing problems down the left and it was his in-swinging corner that fashioned the first real chance of the match as Richard Groves drew a superb point-blank save from Ryan Gosney after he was afforded a free header. The Boatmen thought they should have had a penalty in the 31 st minute after a handball from Clifford Walters but referee Alex Rush-Fear waved away the protests. Captain Byron Mason tried to break the deadlock for Sholing as he rose highest at the far post from Kevin Brewster s corner but he headed over from six yards. On 38 minutes Barry Mason was replaced by Zac Mouland. Kevin Brewster saw his curling free kick cleared off the line by Clifford Walters moments later and it was a chance rued missing as Buckland took the lead three minutes later in the 39 th minute through Charlie Johnson. A deep free kick towards the back of the box from Lloyd Gardner bounced to the feet of Charlie Johnson and the forward calmly controlled the ball before lashing it past Ryan Gosney into the top right corner. The Boatmen started pressing for the equaliser immediately after the interval, with Jamie Bulpitt s driven, left-footed shot from inside the box testing Grant Fisher. Substitute Zac Mouland came close with a fizzing effort from the right as Sholing went searching for some attacking impetus to help level the scoring. Sholing s frustration continued and Marvin McLean earned himself a booking for dissent to assistant referee Lewis Ward on 53 minutes. Buckland continued looking to put the game to bed with Lloyd Gardner and Charlie Johnson firing wide, while the latter blazed over from a 25-yard free kick. Ryan Gosney lofted a looping free kick high into the Buckland box and the ball fell kindly to Dan Mason and the striker deftly killed the ball dead before firing a half-volley on the turn, but it was cleared by Simon Laughton. The hosts pushed forward and won numerous corners but Pete Castle s downward header was the closest chance. Substitute Nick Yeomans found himself in space running through on goal but his shot was expertly thwarted by Liam Drew. Charlie Johnson came close to doubling his tally for the day but birthday boy Owen Royl made a brilliant last-ditch tackle to stop the attack. The Boatmen countered and a big chance fell at the feet of Dan Mason as he found space in the box to get a shot off with the outside of his right foot, but Grant Fisher was alert to make a smart save to keep the Bucks in pole position. And the away side all-but-ended the game in the 84 th minute through Richard Groves. Some brilliant hold-up play from Lloyd Gardner on the right allowed him to skip past Owen Royl and dink a delightful through ball to Richard Groves to coolly dispatched into the bottom left from 16 yards. Buckland made it three two minutes later as substitute Marc Revell, who had been on the pitch for literally ten seconds, popped up at the far post to finish low past Gosney. With the game out of Sholing s hands the frustration showed when captain Byron Mason was dismissed in stoppage time after picking up two quick cautions for dissent in the space of 30 seconds this was quickly followed by a yellow card to Jamie Bulpitt for a foul deep into stoppage time.
