We would like to issue a warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters that have made the journey from the West Country and we hope you enjoy your afternoon with us and have a safe journey home. City come into this game on the back of two successive 4-0 victories. Since we were last here, City travelled to Blackfield & Langley, the league leaders, and were 4-0 winners at Gang Warily. Tyrell Mitford scored twice, making it five goals in two games, and that was added to by a Brett Cunningham goal and also Rob Flooks first since his return to the club. The Reserves were 4-3 winners away at Salisbury on Thursday night. IK Hill, Ant Croucher, Oli Bailey and Tom Allen scored for City. 3 DAVO S DIARY Good afternoon and a warm welcome to everyone for today s league match against Cinderford Town FC, I wish their players, staff and supporters a pleasant stay and safe trip home. Can I also take this opportunity to wish a happy new year to everyone, let s hope for more exciting times in 2019 together! Talking of New Years, what a great way to bring it in we had this week, playing away against the league leaders Blackfield, a side who are extremely difficult to break down, we absolutely put them to the sword from the 1st minute to the last and won the game 4-0, it could and probably should have been even more as well, however goals from Ty x2, Flooksy and Brett were enough to give us a brilliant win and a great start to the new year! What was pleasing was that was our 2nd 4-0 win in a row, this league is so tight in terms of quality from top to bottom that wins like that are hard to come by, so we were absolutely delighted! Today will be a very different proposition against a decent Cinderford side who play a good brand of football, they are on a good run and realistically will be looking at the play offs and so it will be a tough one today, we look forward to it though! On the player front we have some good and some bad news... injury wise we have a near full bill of health, plenty carrying little knocks but these are being managed well by Jo Brocksom, we also can introduce Rob Carr back to the squad after his ankle injury, Graham Williams will also be back in the squad after this weekend to add depth to what we have. Leaving us for the time being though is Ollie Griggs whose loan ended on 1st Jan, absolute top lad he is and I want to thank him for his time with us, hopefully it s not the last time we see him in a Winchester City shirt. Final piece of player news is the signing of ex Winchester City GK Brendan Norris, he has returned to the club to challenge Prycey for the number 1 spot, we have competition for places throughout the side but needed that in the GK area as well, we have that now and I look forward to them pushing each other, welcome back Brendan! Hope everyone enjoys the game, let s hope for a good performance as that is what it will take to get a positive result! Up the citizens! Davo

4 TODAY S VISITORS CINDERFORD TOWN FC CLUB HISTORY Cinderford Town was formed in 1922 and played in the Gloucester Northern Senior League until In that year they joined the newly formed Bristol Charity League but this folded two weeks later at the outbreak of World War Two. In 1957 they won the title but the two seasons they spend in the top flight put severe financial pressure on the club, who were forced to withdraw and return to the Gloucester Northern Senior League. Three years later the club made the unusual decision to join the Warwickshire Combination and won a league and cup double in 1964, which saw them step up to the West Midlands (Regional) League. Cinderford returned to play in the newly formed Gloucestershire County League for the season and stayed for the next five years, finishing as runners-up on three occasions, but again sought a higher standard of football and were accepted into the Midland Football Combination. Town played in this league for the next 10 seasons, achieving a best finish of 4th, before being forced to withdraw and return to the Gloucestershire County League after more financial problems. In the season the club gained admission to the Hellenic League, initially in Division One, where they won the league championship at the first attempt. Four years later the club claimed the Premier Division title and stepped up to the Southern League, where they remain to this day. The season saw Cinderford reach the first round of the FA Cup for the first time. After beating Bromsgrove Rovers 2 1, they lost 3 0 at Gravesend & Northfleet in a second round replay. In the season, they were champions of the Southern League Division One South & West but initially rejected promotion on financial grounds. However, they were forced to accept promotion, in June 2016, following a series of appeals which affected the constitution of the Southern League heading into the new season. The club were relegated in their first season in the Southern Premier League, returning to play in the Southern League West Division once again. 5 TODAY S VISITORS CINDERFORD TOWN FC PLAYER PROFILES Alex Harris - Returns to the club where he played a huge part in the Southern League Division One South & West title winning season of when he kept a record number of clean sheets. Alex went on to win the same title the following season with Hereford and returns after spells at Hereford & Gloucester City. A commanding goalkeeper, Alex will add quality and experience to our defensive unit. Jordan Dibble - 19-year-old Goalkeeper who arrives from Cwmbran Celtic in the Welsh League Division 1 to battle with Harris for the number 1 jersey this season. Keep your eyes out for this young man as he is an outstanding talent that will no doubt develop rapidly due to his professional attitude, determination and from working with Alex & Ryan Mackerness. Jordan is an excellent shot stopper and has a wonderful left foot. Sam Turl - Sought after full back who arrives from Slimbridge where he has amassed many Southern League appearances and experiences. Sam is a former Gloucester City youth player who is quick, an excellent defender one v one and gets forward very well from right back. Lewis Binns - Binnsy is former Hartpury student Lewis arrives from rivals Evesham United where he has spent 4 seasons. Formerly with Newport County Binnsy is a technically gifted footballer, Lewis is an excellent athlete with a wonderful left foot. Look out for him stood over dead balls and finding crosses from the left touch line. Blaine Waugh - Joined the club as a winger in the summer of 2016, Blaine is one of the longest serving players going into his third full season with the club. Lightening pace and ability to go past people are clear but Blaine is also excellent in the air. Since Paul Michael arrives at the club Blaine has been developing his ability to play at full back so look out for him on the right wing or at right back this season. Nick Rhodes - The second member of the title winning squad in the current squad, left for a spell at Evesham before returning in the middle of last season. Nick is an outstanding defender who will be looking to put a couple of seasons blighted by injury behind him and show again the form that led Cinderford Town to a record number of clean sheets in the title winning season. Andy Lewis - Now in his third spell with the club, Andy, nicknamed Swans due to originally coming from Swansea first arrived at the Causeway after re-locating to study at Worcester University. Now a Primary School teacher Andy returned from Shortwood last summer but left for a brief spell with Evesham. Andy is an experienced defender who is one of the most talented defenders you will see with the ball at his feet. Liam Angel - Ange is a former Cardiff City youth player, Newport County professional and Wales international right up to under 19 level. Liam arrived from Newport County last summer and grew into his first season in senior football. A physical player who will not shy away, likes to pass the ball with an excellent left foot. Ben Watkins - Signed from Merthyr Town mid-way through last season Ben is a tenacious midfielder & farmer from Abergavenny. Started out at Cardiff City Ben will relish the opportunity to build on an excellent first season although those attackers midfielders he played against last season may not feel the same. Matt Macdonald - Going into his second season at the club Matt was Young player of the Year last season after arriving from Hereford. An amazing first touch and unrivalled engine Matt is a central midfielder with a huge future in the game. Cousin of namesake Dan, Matt is a supremely talented young player for whom the sky is the limit. Lorcan Sheehan - Lorcs is the third member of the title winning squad in the current squad and well known at this level for his ability and composure on the ball which is second to none. The former Forest Green, Evesham and North Leigh player arrived mid-way through last season and had a huge impact on results at the end of the season.

6 Craig Norman - A stonemason by trade and known for his cricket like shin pads Norm had an outstanding season last year finishing as Players Player & Supporters Player of the year whilst also finishing top goal scorer despite playing many games at full back! Norm has an eye for goal, uncompromising style and winning attitude which makes him a supporter s favourite at the Causeway. Robbie Atkinson - 18-year-old striker, winger or attacking midfielder spotted by Paul Michael playing at Monmouth Comprehensive School. Robbie has supremely fast feet and is frightening 1 v 1 with the ball at his feet. Set to study Accountancy at a red brick University Robbie made so much progress last season we cannot wait to see him continue that development in Daniel Macdonald - Macca is a former England School boy international & Aston Villa trainee where he was highly thought of, Dan s level of ability is unmatched at this level and this season he appears fitter than he s been in many years, perhaps since that time at Villa. Look out for Dan in and around the box, he will want the ball all over the pitch and see & execute passes that other players only dream of. Richard Greaves - Greavesy signed from Westfields at the back end of last season where he had been prolific. He continued this form hitting 14 in 14 matches in the Southern League and we hope to see Greavesy continue this form this season after signing a one-year deal with the club this summer. James Harding - Hards is another Hartpury student originally from High Wycombe now living in Gloucester. Joined Gloucester City in 2016 but has been hampered with injuries over the last couple of seasons. Hards made an impression when signing with Cinderford mid-way through last season a lethal finisher with an excellent first touch. Staff Paul Michael - A former Welsh Premier League and Southern League player with Haverfordwest County & Clevedon Town respectively, Paul took over as player-manager of his hometown club Risca United at just 25. Paul led Risca from the bottom of Welsh League Division 3 to back to back promotions before moving to Cinderford Town as manager in November A PE teacher at Monmouth Comprehensive School Paul holds the UEFA A License. Andrew Smith - Smudge is a former Welsh Schools international who played for Newport County, Weston Super- Mare, Clevedon Town and Monmouth Town. Smudge was assistant manager to Steve Jenkins when Monmouth Town won the Welsh League title and was Monmouth Manager before taking up the post as Paul s assistant in Another PE teacher Mr Smith teaches at Dyson Perrins in Malvern. Ryan Mackerness - Ryan was first team goalkeeper coach as part of Justin Edinburgh s coaching team at Newport County when they won promotion back to the football league. Ryan has also been Academy Goalkeeping coach at Cardiff City & Bristol City and is now studying for a Psychology degree whilst running his own Goalkeeper Coaching company. Kevin Brain - One of the nice guys Kev has experienced the game from a number of perspectives. A well-respected goalkeeper in his younger days Kev has also took up the whistle to referee, had administration roles within the GFA and now as sports therapist within the back room staff at Cinderford Town.

15 MALCOLM S MUSINGS We welcome Cinderford to Winchester for today s game. This will be the first meeting of the clubs this season, although they did meet in both 2015/16 and 2017/18 with three of these games being drawn. They also met in 2008/09 and 2012/13 with all four matches being won by the home team. My first ever Winchester match as a fan of this club was the 0-0 draw between the clubs on this ground when Warren Bentley despite his goalscoring prowess with the club missed a penalty and Dave Malone attempted to demonstrate on the pitch after the game how a penalty should be taken. Later in that season the teams drew 2-2 at Cinderford with Lee Smith scoring twice from the penalty spot for the home team, with Craig Feeney and Warren Bentley scoring for Winchester, in a match in which Cinderford did well to draw with only nine men on the field at the end of the game. We won last season s corresponding match 2-0 thanks to goals by Liam Gilbert and Pat Cox in a match we defended very well with Ryan Pryce saving a penalty from Lewis Bamford (Bamford recently scored twice for Bristol Manor Farm against Winchester), although the match was held up for a significant period for an injury to Cinderford s Dan Clare who collided with his own player. Earlier in that season we drew 2-2 at Cinderford in a game of two halves. In the first period, an Andy Lewis penalty and a further goal from Declan Morley-Lyne giving the home team a 2-0 lead going into the interval, with goalkeeper Ryan Pryce restricting Cinderford to a 2-0 lead, but with an excellent strike from Liam Gilbert and a further goal from Pat Cox drawing Winchester level. In 2016/17 Cinderford played in the Southern League Premier Division having been promoted as champions the following season but were relegated after one season in which they only obtained 27 points from their 46 league games. Last season they finished 13 th and at the time of writing were in 8 th position this season having on their travels achieved notable wins against Cirencester and Evesham on their travels. Cinderford are a club I first remember playing in the Gloucestershire County and Midland Combination Leagues in the 1970 s although they had played in the Western and West Midland Leagues prior to that. However, I became much more familiar with them when they joined the Hellenic League Division 1 West in 1990/91, a competition they won at the first attempt. They then spent four seasons as a Hellenic Premier Division club, never finishing outside the top six, before being promoted to the Southern League where they have remained ever since. In 1995/96 which was their first as a Southern League club they reached the 1 st round proper of the F A Cup for the first time, in fact they went on to reach the 2 nd round proper before losing to Gravesend and Northfleet (now Ebbsfleet) after a replay. In the next round Gravesend played eventual semi-finalists Aston Villa. That season was before F A Cup ties were settled with penalty shootouts and they needed three attempts to eliminate local rivals Forest Green. I did see Cinderford play at Eastleigh in the F A Cup tie in the 2011/12 season in which Nick McCootie scored a late consolation goal for today s opponents in a 3-1 defeat. The Eastleigh team that day contained former Winchester City players Gareth Barfoot, Ross Bottomley, Danny Smith. Jamie Brown and Andy Forbes, and in addition Ben Wilson and Sam Wilson were on the bench for this game. As this is the first home match of 2019 I would like to wish you all the best for the New Year. I would like to thank Dave Malone who has stood down as Director of football for his work in the role. I was sorry to hear of the passing of Mike Barnard. He was one of a dying breed in the sense that he played league football for Portsmouth and county cricket for Hampshire, although some people may not have heard of him, but he was a well-known figure on the local sporting circuit who managed to remain positive despite suffering bad injuries from a road accident in the 1960 s which left him with a permanent limp.

BRAD GALE - Powerful midfielder who has signed after a brief spell last season, played for Verwood Town and Poole Town where he was highly regarded by their supporters. Currently dual-registered with Hamworthy United. BEN SUNLEY - goal scoring Forward player who had a fantastic season in the reserves last season, still a youth team player but has been heavily involved in the 1st team already. CALLUM KITCHER - Delighted to sign Callum this season, he joined our reserves after the deadline day at end of last season, played a number of games for the reserve team and impressed, look forward to having him in the squad this season. Currently dual-registered with Bemerton Heath Harlequins. BRETT CUNNINGHAM A young 17-year-old midfielder who joined the club from Farnborough earlier this season. A tricky winger with bags of pace. MATT BENHAM Returned to City this season from Thatcham Town. Creative forward-thinking player with an eye for goal. Currently dual-registered with Bitton AFC. GEORGE SHORT Returned to City this season from Bracknell Town and has also previously played for Slough Town. Returning from injury shortly. IK HILL A winger who has re-joined the club from Alresford Town. Hill left the club in the summer to join the Magpies but is now back and has scored once already since he returned. BRENDAN NORRIS Goalkeeper who has returned to the club at the beginning of 2019, signing from Evo-Stik League South Division One South rivals, Fleet Town. Brendan has played for City before and is now in his second spell at the club. STAFF PROFILES CRAIG DAVIS Player-Manager who came to City from Fleet Town after relinquishing his position as Manager. Took over as Interim Manager until the end of the season before taking over the reins permanently. His playing career started off as a pro at Cardiff City before spells at Bashley, Salisbury, Gosport Borough and AFC Totton. Has won both the Southern League South and West and Premier as a player. JO BROCKSOM - Jo is in her 3rd season now at Winchester as Sports therapist, this is her 1st season taking a leading role though, has been integral in keeping our players on the pitch and delighted to have her with the club again this season. PETE MILLARD Scout Someone Craig Davis brought to the club this season and has previously worked for Bashley FC and Craig at Fleet Town, has a wealth of knowledge and provides important information to Craig throughout the season, really crucial member of the management team.
