TRAFFIC NEWS Clubs are reminded again that if you are travelling to Bournemouth or Christchurch and to a lesser extent Hamworthy United please be advised to add extra travelling time to their journey as there are road works at Blackwater Bridge (the Hurn and Christchurch turn off) on the A338 Spur Road into and out of Bournemouth. This is a long term series of roadworks including some lane widening. Principally southbound this is causing extensive tailbacks at peak and off peak times, with roads around the locality also suffering from congestion. PROMOTION AND RELEGATION REMINDER The Clubs in the bottom two places in each of the fourteen divisions at Step 5 (our ) at the end of the Regular Season will be relegated and placed in the most geographically appropriate division of Step 6 (our First Division). These Clubs will be replaced by the nineteen Clubs finishing in first position in each of the Leagues at Step 6 at the end of the Regular Season together with the required number of Clubs finishing in second position at the end of the Regular Season on a points per match ratio. If there are insufficient Clubs to fill vacancies Clubs finishing second to bottom of the Step 5 divisions will be reprieved so that the best such Club shall be reprieved first. Leagues do not automatically promote and relegate internally all candidates are placed into pools and placed on a geographical basis. Therefore, the bottom 2 clubs in each Step 5 league will be relegated to a pool and the 19 champion clubs at Step 6 plus 9 (or more if vacancies exist) 2nd placed clubs on a points per game basis will be promoted to the Step 5 pool. Looking down- the FA promotion process from step 7 to step 6 is now open. All Step 7 club secretaries have been sent the relevant documentation they need to complete and return to the FA. We hear that the cut-off date for applications without exception is 31st December. Good luck to those applying, RULE 8.14 All clubs are reminded of the requirements of Rule 8.14:- The visiting Club must send in writing to the home Club details of the proposed team they plan to field together with their Club history and up-to-date pen pictures of their current Players registered with the Competition for the season at least five days before the scheduled date of the match between the two Clubs. It has come to our notice that some clubs are not bothering to do so Instances reported to us WILL result in charges being issued against offending clubs. Equally Match confirmation MUST be sent at least Five days prior to the game this confirmation is MANDATORY To all not an optional extra!!! SYDENHAMS FOOTBALL LEAGUE- DEVELOPMENT PLAN Vice Chairman Nick Spencer and Development Officer Bob Purkiss presented the FA with our development plans for this season, last week. Included was a review of last years initiatives, two of which were to address the issue of unacceptable language at our grounds and decrease the discipline levels. Whilst work continues on the second, it is pleasing to note that having visited our 3 development clubs Sholing, Stoneham and Alton, great progress on the language issues have been made at all three. It is very noticeable, particularly at Alton, as to the number of young children and their mothers, who feel comfortable to come and watch an entertaining game of football without having to cover up their ears. Both Alton and Stoneham have Chairmen who lead from the top and make constant reference to the expected standards within the club and the ground. They (together with Hamble Club) have also had the league address the players and managers to ensure that they are aware of the Leagues requirements. As collectively our clubs paid over 80,000 to the FA last season in fines, it is in their own financial interest to enforce good behaviour. It is sincerely hoped that other clubs follow the lead given by the development plan. Sunday, 02 December /19 Edition #24 Page 2 of 20

THE FA CUP AND THE SYDENHAMS LEAGUE 2010/11 Chapter three of our look at how Clubs in the Sydenhams League have fared in the FA Cup over recent seasons and 2010/11 when the Trophy was won by Manchester City with a single goal victory over Stoke City. That was probably in May we will start in the previous August with the Extra Preliminary Round and the rider that the teams mentioned were in the League at that time and there is still a lack of knowledge as regards all goal scorers and will be until Full Time becomes more updated. With no fewer than thirty one Clubs from the League in the draw it was inevitable that there would be ties that pitted Wessex Clubs against each other but there were only six such fixtures. BRADING TOWN were held to a one all draw on the Island by ROMSEY but crossed the Solent to win the replay four nil whilst HAMBLE ASSC scored the only goal of the game at CHRISTCHURCH. COWES SPORTS however did not fare as well as their Island neighbours, going down five nil at RINGWOOD in a Friday night tie, goal scorers for the hosts on the night were Paul Burnett with a double and singles from Mark Burrett, Pete Clark and Dan Taylor. BLACKFIELD & LANGLEY travelled east along the coast and won two one at HAYLING UNITED and MONEYFIELDS headed in the opposite direction to record a three one victory against LYMINGTON TOWN at Grigg Lane in front of a 100 spectators on the Sunday, Gareth Byres the Lymington scorer and Owen Elias, Luke Middleton and Warren Hunt with the goals for the Portsmouth based side. Lastly TOTTON & ELING progressed with a two nil home victory over BEMERTON HEATH in a game also on the Friday night. On to the matches against opposition from other Leagues and something of a rarity with ALRESFORD TOWN being drawn against a side from Kent at this early stage of the competition. Herne Bay made the two hundred and fifty mile round trip to North Hampshire but to no avail, going down five two. ALTON saw off their Sussex visitors from Chichester City four one whilst Western League Hallen, so often a scourge of Sydenham s Clubs in both Cup and Vase, beat WINCHESTER four one and Bitton travelled up from Bristol to end DOWNTON s participation for another year by scoring twice without reply. Still on the Western League front Almondsbury UWE made a similar journey with an even more emphatic outcome, winning five nil at AMESBURY, while Odd Down, based in Bath, won four one at VERWOOD after a one all draw at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground. Still three more ties with Western League opponents, though the first two both have dropped down a level since then. HAMWORTY UNITED won five one at Elmore (currently sitting joint top of the South West Peninsula Division 1 East) in Tiverton and POOLE TOWN defeated Dawlish three nil at Tatnam in front of just over 200 spectators, the visitors that day have had a rough time since and in their present incarnation currently languish in Devon & Exeter League Division 3, which could generally be described as the equivalent of a Step 10. Finally in this section, NEW MILTON lost three two at Longwell Green in a replay after a one all draw at home. The Hellenic League also played a fairly major part with BOURNEMOUTH and NEWPORT winning one nil at home against Abingdon Town and Kidlington respectively, with Tom Jeffes netting for Poppies that afternoon- and still occasionally finding the net for United Services Portsmouth this season- though BROCKENHURST lost by the same score to Old Woodstock Town. FAREHAM TOWN defeated Clanfield not their near neighbours in the Hampshire Premier League but the Oxfordshire side of the same name three one and LAVERSTOCK & FORD defeated Hook Norton by six goals to one, in a game switched to The Dell. In the remaining ties PETERSFIELD lost two one at Camberley Town s Krooner Park ground and WARMINSTER went down by the same score at home to Reading Town. Fourteen sides had progressed to the Preliminary Round with seven moving on to the next stage. ALTON defeated Combined Counties side Merstham two one while NEWPORT pulled off a more than creditable four one success over Reading Town in Berkshire- at Newbury s Faraday Road ground. BRADING, like their Island neighbours, were on the road and scored the only goal of the game at Western League Corsham Town but the result of the round was probably at RINGWOOD where Southern League Yate Town were beaten four one in front of a gate just shy of 100. HAMBLE ASSC travelled to Bristol and convincingly won three nil at Longwell Green whilst POOLE TOWN beat visitors Bishop Sutton, another club from the greater Bristol area, three nil, and TOTTON & ELING winning three one in extra time at Shortwood after a goalless draw on home soil. 4 The Western League proved to be its usual stumbling block with three victories over Wessex sides. FAREHAM lost two nil at Bitton, BLACKFIELD went down by the same score at home to Almondsbury Town and HAMWORTHY UNITED lost three nil at Sherborne after a two all draw at the County Ground. The final two defeats were at the hands of Hellenic League Clubs with BOURNEMOUTH losing two nil at home to Highworth, Terry Bohane and James Guthrie grabbing the Wiltshire sides goals that afternoon. LAVERSTOCK & FORD, who had scored six in the previous round, this time conceded six at Old Woodstock while scoring three themselves in a high scoring encounter. ALRESFORD appeared to have done the hard part when securing a two all draw at Combined Counties side Cobham but lost four nil at home in the replay and MONEYFIELDS lost two one at Hungerford. This gave the League a very creditable seven sides in the First Qualifying Round which produced the result of the round in Wessex League terms and surely one of the best results achieved by a Club in the Competition in the history of the League. ALTON TOWN were to finish in sixth place in Wessex League at the end of the season Sutton United finished eleven points clear at the top of the Isthmian Premier League and were promoted to the Conference South. Yet on the day the Brewers travelled to Gander Green Lane, went a goal behind and won two one in front of a crowd just under 300. Their Chairman has oft been known to wax lyrical about the day if asked! Two more Clubs joined them in the next round with POOLE TOWN winning four one at Bodmin a name that keeps cropping up year by year - and HAMBLE ASSC winning two nil at Wootton Bassett after a one all draw at home. BRADING predictably found Southern League Swindon Supermarine too strong, losing four nil in Wiltshire. NEWPORT also lost to Southern League opposition, three nil at home to Bishops Cleeve. TOTTON & ELING s journey ended with a six two defeat at Hungerford, whilst RINGWOOD TOWN also said farewell to the FA Cup, going down five nil at Cinderford Town. On to the second Qualifying Round and more success. HAMBLE ASSC succeeded where two had failed in previous rounds by beating Old Woodstock two one and POOLE scored the only goal of the game (in extra time) at Thame after a one all draw at Tatnam. But there was no further fairy tale for ALTON though it was not for the want of trying. They entertained Southern League Cinderford and held them to a two all draw before a trek to the Welsh Borders for the replay where the lost two one after extra time. A long journey and it probably rained as well. Danny Bowers HAMBLE ASSC finally, having acquitted themselves superbly throughout the competition, went out two nil at Farnborough in the Third Qualifying Round but POOLE progressed one stage further with a single goal victory over near neighbours Bashley to be one game away from the Competition Proper, with the gate at Tatnam reported as 837 being one of the highest at that stage of the competition. But it was not to be as Hayes & Yeading United came to Dorset and went home with a three one victory with the game attracting an attendance in excess of 1200, Lee Brown scored all three for the visitors that day, thereby ending our involvement for another year with the Dolphins campaign running from 14 August through to 23 October. All in all a good year for the League in FA Cup terms as well as for the Dolphins who amassed 104 points in the League this season and gained promotion to the Southern League. PLAYER NEWS A correction to the scorer of the sixth goal against Bournemouth from last week s Newsletter. The scorer was apparently 16 year old substitute Jack Delves- on his Wessex League debut. Sam Jackson made his debut for Dorchester Town in the Magpies 1-0 FA Trophy win over Hungerford Town. Fawley s Ollie Bradley has signed dual registration forms with AFC Totton and young goalkeeper Tom Parker- Trott has ended a successful spell at the Oilers returning to AFC Bournemouth. A familiar name amongst the goals in recent seasons, Nic Turpin has joined Andover Town. With 16 appearances for Shaftesbury, Dan O Sullivan has moved from the Rockies to the New Forest, joining Bashley. Dan Sansom currently registered with Christchurch (and Gillingham Town in the Dorset Premier League), although a bad injury has hampered his football career, collected the 2018 Multimedia Story Award at the recent NCTJ (National Council for Training of Journalists) Awards for Excellence. Congratulations are in order for the Bournemouth University student. Sunday, 02 December /19 Edition #24 Page 4 of 20

Seemingly this did not affect the attendance very much, if at all, with close on one hundred and fifty present to see a game in which the scoreline was a fair outcome. On a dry but misty evening the visitors made the better start with Shane Lock a constant threat throughout on the left flank having a header saved and a volley following a free kick rebounding off a defender who knew little about it -for a corner. Both sides had attacks halted by the offside flag before the first goal came after just ten minutes. A clearance by goalkeeper George Baxter was deftly headed on by Callum Sweeney into Kylen LEWIS s path and with the defence caught square the tall striker rounded Dave Tasker and slid the ball in to the empty net. A dangerous free kick from Andover s Jordan Ragguette found no takers in the box and at the other end Tasker was forced to go down at Lewis s feet after the defence had again been caught square. The home side s first chance came when Dean Smith broke down the left and a clever dummy by Nic Turpin left Shaquille Gwengwe with a shooting chance which Baxter saved at the expense of a corner. Tasker was again forced to leave his area, this time to deny Lock, and two efforts from Josh Bertie at the other end raised hope for the home side only for New Street to increase their lead fifteen minutes before the break. Zac Hine, who had earlier replaced Josh Wilson in an injury enforced substitution, slid the ball through the middle, the defence parted rather like the Red Sea and LOCK s cool finish made it two nil. Town s response was immediate with Smith and Bertie working their way down the left and Ragguette bundling the ball past Baxter from the cross but the yellow flag in the mist on the far side meant it all counted for nothing. Lewis was then caught offside at the other end when had he looked across the line he would have been clear, and the last action of the half saw a Lock shot deflected for a corner. 6 HT 0-2 Already two goals to the good the game looked to be moving in the visitors favour and two more goals in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half simply confirmed same. Lock and Lewis contrived a chance for Sweeney but the midfielder rather scuffed his shot before something of a rarity with the third goal coming directly from a corner. The mist in the corner diagonally opposite the Clubhouse now had the consistency of fog and when Andover were awarded a corner on that side the ball came out of the fog, cleared everybody in the six yard box, and finished high inside the far post. Enquiries to the bench confirmed LOCK as the scorer. Goal number four came when the referee allowed advantage after a challenge on Lewis, the striker continued and his low cross was turned in by HINE. Sweeney had a shot blocked but the midway point of the half saw goal number five. The fog had now reverted to light mist on the far side and a cross from that area, pulled back to the edge of the area, was met first time by Jamie POLLARD, the ball beating Tasker s despairing dive and nestling in the corner of the net. As Andover at least sought a consolation a superb and powerful volley from Turpin from outside the area was beaten away by Baxter the force of same knocked him over and the keeper then made a double save from Brendon Holmes but it was too little too late and the game finished with a Lock header that was too high and a Sweeney effort saved by a combination of goalkeeper and defender. FT 0-5 Given that Andover New Street are in the and Andover at the foot of the outcome was perhaps as expected but Andover did not help themselves defensively on the night, their defence was too frequently caught square though in fairness they received little protection from the midfield in front of them and New Street were simply quicker in thought and deed. Back to the search for valuable League points for both sides on Saturday. Roger Allen writes FOLLAND SPORTS 3-2 WHITCHURCH UNITED OCCASIONALLY good initiatives pay off as Folland Sports took advantage of a break in the bad weather to bring a game forward to a Friday evening to earn a good attendance and more importantly 3 points. However the evening did not start off too well as Whitchurch should have been in the lead within the first minute. Merson Webb ran clear onto a through ball but he was unable to finish. Both sides traded blows with the home side coming nearest to scoring, particularly from corners, which on two occasions flashed across goal without anyone applying the finishing touch. It was the visitors that made the breakthrough on 24 minutes with a carbon copy of their move in the first minute. Once again WEBB streaked clear and this time he was able to score low past Downs in the home goal. Almost immediately Follands were back on level terms with a goal in which none of their players played any part. Whitchurch keeper, Tom Cotton, had the ball at his feet in the middle of his penalty area with no Follands player within yards. With his clearance, he managed to hit one of his defenders squarely in the back and the ball bounced back past the stranded keeper for the most bizarre of OWN GOALs. On 37 minutes Follands were in front as a cross from the right was headed in by an unmarked Luke RYMAN from close range. HT 2-1 Within 5 minutes of the break 'Church were back on level terms. Once again the danger came from the left as WEBB finished low past Downs. Follands were to suffer another blow before the hour mark as centre half Matt Cox was sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity when he handled just outside the penalty area. Nathan Gray's subsequent free kick was off target. Although a player down, Follands spirit wasn't affected and they were back in front after 63 minutes when Breon GRAHAM was unmarked in front of goal to head in. Both sides had chances to score again before the final whistle but the score line didn't change up to the final whistle. This was a game that both sides would claim they deserved to win which is probably a sure sign that, to the neutral, a draw would have been a fair result. They were quick, committed and defended well but could have regretted one or two chances missed in the second half. In pale watery sunshine the rain in the North of the County had ceased before mid-morning the game started slowly and though end to end it was scrappy overall. The first chance of a goal came when New Milton s Adam Burke made ground on the left and his low cross bounced off a defender, hit keeper Lewis Boughton on the head and rebounded to safety. Chance number two bought the opening goal on twelve minutes when Jake CARSWELL fastened on to a through ball, evaded two challenges and slotted the ball past the advancing Boughton. The visitors continued to have the better of the play and a fierce shot from the same player was beaten away at full stretch by Boughton and two attacks foundered because of Erickson Mukambi s tendency to be offside. New Milton keeper James Mayo s first real action came when he smothered a cross at the foot of the near post and after the ball had been given away in midfield Alton s Taylor Watts was wide from the edge of the area. Boughton had to leave his area to deny Carswell and with time running out Watts and Matt Bunyan carved out a superb opening for the first named but the shot was rather scuffed past the post from some six yards. And that was that for the first half. HT 0-1 Alton, perhaps wound up at halftime, were quickly in to their stride on the re-start with Bunyan just too high with a header, a couple of crosses coming to nothing and when Mayo rather fumbled a header round the post for a corner, he atoned with a point blank save from Bunyan s header. A scramble in the Alton area Sunday, 02 December /19 Edition #24 Page 12 of 20

saw a close range shot blocked by Boughton, though he probably knew little about it, and at the other end Bunyan failed to make contact with a Liam Knight cross. The home side used all their substitutes in quick succession but were wasting possession with a series of poor crosses from both flanks. Another Bunyan effort bought another good save from Mayo and Carswell, a willing runner and threat all afternoon, provided a perfect low cross that Mukambi scooped over the bar from close range, and had it gone in it would certainly have been game over. The game had been played in good spirit with little if any problems for the referee but with five minutes to go it all went rather horribly wrong especially from the home side s point of view, Mukambi thrust his way in to the area from the right and went down in, what looked from the far touchline, like a tangle of legs. The referee, not too far away, gave the matter some thought and awarded a penalty which, and this is something of an understatement, was not to the agreement of the home side and after much conversation between all and sundry the referee issued two or three cautions and showed one of the defenders a red card. Whether it was for the original challenge or not is unsure. When sanity returned (briefly) MUKAMBI coolly placed the penalty kick low in to the corner to make it two nil with time running out. Sadly Alton had not finished their protest and a second red card went the way of the goalkeeper for making his views known in no uncertain manner. In the short time remaining Alton could make nothing of two free kicks from the edge of the area and New Milton were able to return home with three precious points that lifted them a couple of places up the table. Referees can only give what they see and though someone on the far side maintained afterwards there was no contact in the challenge the decision was made. Whether it affected the result is open to opinion, given the short amount of time remaining but overall the visitors deserved their victory. Perhaps I should also mention that on my way through Alton I saw Father Christmas. Oh dear. FT 0-2 Gary Day writes HAMBLE CLUB 1-1 HAMWORTHY UNITED THERE may be a tinge of disappointment when your club is pitted against another from the same league in an FA competition, as Hamble Club and Hamworthy United faced each other in the FA Vase this afternoon. One thing such a tie will determine is at least one of these Wessex League teams will progress into the next round; alas, the teams would have to wait for another day to find out that particular answer as they will need to meet again. Despite the overnight and morning rain, the pitch at the Hamble Community Facility was in a fine condition as the teams took the field. It was Hamble who took the lead on 13 minutes when Ben Kemplen s cross was touched onto the bar at the far post by Hammers keeper Tom Rees and when Nathan Lynch tried to capitalise on the loose ball he was brought down by Declan Randall. Up stepped LYNCH to take the spot-kick, it was low and fairly straight, and Rees kept it out only for the taker to follow it up by shooting home. A strange occurrence next as when Sean Wright attempted to take the kick-off, he didn t play the ball back firmly enough and conceded a free-kick by kicking it twice! This perhaps suggested it was not to be the Hammers day, but not so, they were level within five minutes when Eddie Hodge crossed to the far post where Ollie DAVIES also benefited from a rebound off the keeper, following up after Rory Anderson had saved his initial effort. Anderson made successive saves to deny a Sam Bayston header and then a Hodge shot. A competitive edge continued throughout, which remained up to the break with neither side able to find the cutting edge. HT 1-1 Hamble had a good fifteen-minute spell early in the second half, when headers by Ryan Wilkins and later by Lynch, were both saved by Rees. Play became more even and both sides lacked a touch of composure in their build ups, resulting in moves breaking down. A Wilkins shot was deflected clear by Jamie Filkins whilst Davies had a further opportunity for the Hammers but his attempted chip from the edge of the dee went just over. FT (90 minutes) 1-1 Sunday, 02 December /19 Edition #24 Page 13 of 20

Into extra time and this cat and mouse affair continued with threats not being turned into chances. There was some good defending too with skipper Nathan Walker doing well in the Hammers back line, getting in a powerful header to clear. A late penalty appeal came when Hamble s Ricky Bull was challenged heavily by Adam Costello but referee Conal Bartlett was well placed and play went on. FT/ ET 1-1 A very full two hours play was necessary and to this neutral observer it was a fair outcome with a reasonable amount of attacking threat but limited invention. It now moves to the 3G surface at Hamworthy on Tuesday night when it will then be known which one of these Wessex League teams will go through and the fourthround draw will be known too. Connor Steel writes SHOLING 6-2 PAGHAM [Goalmouth action, picture reproduced with courtesy of Ray Routledge]. SHOLING came firing out of the blocks and after a spell of quick possession, they took the lead in the 5th minute. A pass by TJ Cuthbertson found Dan MASON surging into the box, who controlled the ball after a couple of bounces in the area at an angle and his shot beat James Binfield via a deflection as Mason celebrated his 350th Sholing appearance in style. Two minutes later Lee Wort cut inside and hit a low shot towards the bottom corner, but a Pagham defender cleared off the line with a sliding block. Then in the 11th minute fantastic one-touch passing between Dan Mason and Lee Wort worked space for an angled shot by the latter that was saved by the shins of the away goalkeeper. From the resulting corner a volleyed effort was blocked by the head of a defender, before the ball was played back into the box and a header by Bryon Mason was parried safely away by the goalkeeper. After a dominant first twenty minutes you could sense a second Sholing goal was coming and nobody could argue it wasn t deserved. It came in the 22nd minute when a low shot by Jake Hoole was blocked at source by a Pagham defender with the ball falling perfectly to Alex SAWYER who was eight yards out. The midfielder calmly doubled the lead with a passed finished into the bottom corner. Once Sholing doubled their lead Pagham had a brief spell of possession that led to a cross from the left was claimed easily by Gosney. Such was the Boatmen s dominance, this was the first and only time the away side found themselves in a good position during the first half. On the counter attack the home side had two half chances from Jake Hoole, whose shot went just wide with the keeper beaten and minutes later had a shot off the line. In the thirty-fifth minute it was 3-0 to the Boatmen as they seemed to ride the wave created by Pagham possession and began to attack again. A low angled shot by Lee Wort took a deflection and seemed to be nestling into the bottom corner. However the keeper made a superb save diving to his right and parried the ball straight out to Dan MASON, who tucked home the rebound. In 350 appearances for the Boatmen, the attacker now has 168 goals for the club. It looked like that was it for the half, but on the stroke of the whistle Sholing made it 4-0. Sustained possession on the right following a corner led to Cuthbertson playing a cross that landed perfectly on the head of skipper Byron MASON, who made no mistake with the header as he nodded past the keeper. It rounded off a brilliant first half performance for the home side, who deserved the lead and it could have been more had it not been for the away goalkeeper who made three brilliant saves. HT 4-0 Sunday, 02 December /19 Edition #24 Page 14 of 20

The second half started with Sholing having a goal ruled out for offside as Lee Wort brought a cross down by Cuthbertson and finished empathically joy turned to jeers as the assistants flag was up. Moments later the away side had a shot flash just wide of the post, but this did not deter them, and they got a goal back in the 52nd minute. A mixture of sloppy defending and good play down the right from Pagham opened a huge space for Lloyd Rowlatt. He found Pagham s leading goalscorer Callum OVERTON with a low cross and the striker slotted past a stranded Ryan Gosney. Any Pagham hope of a comeback were very quickly ended when from the kick-off Sholing breezed forward and won themselves a corner. A great delivery by Alex Sawyer found Dan MILLER, who headed home past the keeper for a fifth and ended the game as a contest if it was indeed one. In the 62nd minute Lloyd Rowlatt hit the post with a low angled shot across goal with the rebound falling to a Pagham attacker who was fouled before he could tuck it away. A penalty was awarded to the away side and the Boatmen did not argue, although Pagham didn t really appeal for the foul either. Callum Overton stepped up but Ryan Gosney pulled off a great penalty save by diving to his right to deny the striker his second goal. With the now-postponed match against Hamble Club possibly in mind, Lee Wort and Alex Sawyer were subbed off with twenty minutes left. At this moment the game had hit its only lull of the afternoon with the game won and the away side resigned to their fate. However it did not stop the game being brought to life in the last five minutes with a single goal for both sides. In the 85th minute Sholing made it 6-1 with a goal for Bradley TARGETT. The young attacker chased the ball down on the right side before beating the defender down by the bar line with a flick. This improvisation created space for himself to lift the ball over the advancing keeper into the roof of the net to complete the rout and add some extra gloss to the score line. Despite the Boatmen dominance throughout the 90 minutes, added time was spent in their half as Pagham sought another consolation goal and they got it in the 92nd minute. After two attempts by the away team were saved comfortably by Gosney, it was third time lucky when George GASKIN let rip from the edge of the box and it flew into the top corner leaving the home goalkeeper with no chance. The final whistle blew on a fantastic performance by the boatmen, with the final 6-2 score line not fully showing their dominance of the match. This was a performance that ensures nobody will want to draw the Boatmen and their fans in the next round, with the Ultra daring to dream of a second Vase win to add to their 2014 success. Who can blame them after another win to make it 18 in a row, and a brilliant performance all round? Kintbury stayed top courtesy of a 3-2 win at Marlborough. Trowbridge won 4-0 against Westbury whilst Cricklade perhaps surprisingly went down at home by the odd goal in five against the Royal Wootton Basset Development side. 20 WEEK EIGHTEEN ROUND UP An awful start to the week as the weather washed out six of Tuesday s scheduled matches writes John Gorman. Just one League match lost the fixture between AFC Stoneham and Romsey Town and five Cup ties. The Bournemouth Senior Cup semifinal at Hythe, Southampton Senior Cup ties at Bashley and Sholing, a Portsmouth Senior Cup tie at Fareham and the North Hants Cup fixture at Alresford. The two games that were completed were in the latter Competition although there was totally unnecessary confusion over the Andover Town Andover New Street game with seemingly the correct procedures not being followed, meaning that the game was at one stage postponed and then in effect re-instated. Whether it affected the attendance is difficult to judge but there were nearly 150 spectators present to watch New Street overwhelm their local rivals five nil on a first class playing surface with two goals for Shane Lock. In the other tie a perhaps surprise result with Alton winning four one at Tadley Calleva and Matt Bunyan adding two more goals to his rapidly increasing seasons tally for the visitors. The weather was held to a draw on Wednesday evening with one game postponed and one played. The Division On fixture between Totton & Eling and US Portsmouth was lost to a waterlogged pitch but the Bournemouth Senior Cup Semi Final at Victoria Park went ahead with Bournemouth defeating Lymington by three goals to one. One game on Friday in with Follands making some space between themselves and the bottom of the table with a three two victory over Whitchurch at Hamble Merson Webb claiming both goals for the visitors in a game that could have gone either way. Saturday, as expected, was marred by the overnight and early morning rain, with eleven postponements and only eight games played. Fortunately the three Vase games were unscathed and resulted in the certainty of three Sydenhams League sides in Mondays fourth round draw. Baffins Milton Rovers claimed an impressive three one victory at Western League Bradford Town, two goals for Callum Dart, and Dan Mason scored twice in Sholing s six two defeat of Sussex League Pagham. The Third tie between Hamble Club and Hamworthy United finished all square at one all after extra time and they will try again on Tuesday at the Specsavers County Ground. Congratulations to all. In the the games at Andover New Street, Fareham, Horndean, Shaftesbury and Tadley were postponed more of the last later leaving three completed. Alresford s up and down season continued with a four one home defeat at the hands of Bemerton, three very good points for the visitors, with Jordan Matthews claiming a second half hat trick. Cameron Beard scored both goals as Bashley prevented AFC Portchester making ground on the leaders with a two one win in the Forest and Christchurch and Cowes Sports gained a welcome point apiece in a one all draw at Hurn Bridge. Just two game survived in and welcome wins for two of the Clubs. New Milton ended a long losing run with a deserved two nil victory at Alton while a Jimmi Burton goal gave East Cowes the three points against Ringwood at Beatrice Avenue. None of the games played in either Division had any great effect on the League tables. Back to the postponement at Tadley- the home Club did everything according to the book, a successful mid-morning pitch inspection, no more rain, Lymington made the long journey to the Berkshire border, the hospitality was in place and the match referee overruled his colleague and called the game off. It would be nice if the FA advised ALL referees EVERYWHERE that they should make every possible effort to get games played! Now for the Buildbase FA Vase draw on Monday and the wish that there are no all-wessex ties. Sunday, 02 December /19 Edition #24 Page 20 of 20
