Today is sponsors day at the club where we welcome people from the business community who have supported the club for the -4 season. It s important that we pay tribute to these people as without their continued support in many cases, and fresh offers of help from those who have sponsored the club for the first time this season, it would be impossible to run a club at this level of non-league football. The sponsors reading this message deserve to take their share of the credit for where we are today. A club which is looking at having a very successful season on the pitch possibly the best in our history in terms of what could be achieved and more and more people are coming to watch the attractive, entertaining brand of football that we are producing every week. We also need the support of our current sponsors and more companies from the community coming on board to support us so that we can continue to move this club forward both on and off the pitch. I m proud that during my time as chairman I, with the help of a supportive and dedicated committee, moved this club s philosophy to ensuring that we do what we can to get our teams playing at the highest level of football we can possibly obtain. We are now seeing the first fruits of our labours and changes to turn this club in that direction attractive football and a great chance of winning honours. However, the progress needs to continue and our sponsors have a key role to play in helping us do that. 4 MANAGER S notes Proud to have set new club record but we must be right for today s encounter I D LIKE to welcome Stockbridge to Love Lane for this afternoon s game. Stockbridge have made a very strong start to the season, winning four out of their seven league games, and they are currently fourth in the Division table. I expect they will give us a tough test this afternoon so we will need to be on our toes to meet that challenge so we can keep moving forward. We are still playing catch up in the league, with some sides having played double the amount of games we have so far. We don t mind doing that so long as we keep winning another three points today will move us closer towards the top end of the table. It goes without saying that we were really pleased with the result of the Fleet Spurs game on Tuesday night in the Hampshire Senior Cup. To set a new club record victory, I m proud that my side have managed to do this. They have now left their mark on the club s history books as well. The key is now that we have to make sure we prepare properly for today s game and get ourselves up for it correctly. We are about to head into a run of three cup games in a row before our next league game so it is important we do things right today so that we can pick up another vital three points. Thank you to all of our supporters for their outstanding support so far this season and I look forward to seeing you at Brockenhurst on Wednesday night and at Hartley Wintney next Saturday, as well as cheering us on today. There have been eight goals scored in each of the last two games the Rams have played. But many of the six goals conceded by his team during the last 8 minutes of action have had manager Ian Saunders tearing his hair out. They nearly allowed promotion rivals Team Solent to leave Love Lane with three points and in this league game last Saturday, they nearly allowed their struggling hosts to gain a shock scoreline. In the end though the Rams won the game comfortably but Saunders will demand that his team tighten up during a busy schedule of games ahead. The Rams went - up on six minutes when Mike Asare s low shot found the far corner but Andover were level ten minutes later when Cole Hinchcliffe headed home when left unmarked. Petersfield were ahead again on minutes when keeper Dave Tasker spilled a cross and Joe Richardson tucked home the loose ball. A defensive error allowed Andover to equalise on 58 minutes when Jack Hutchings shot went in off the post. But the Rams edged ahead again two minutes later when Will Essai s cross from the left curled over the keeper and inside the far post. Robbie Tambling fired home at the second attempt on 66 minutes and Richardson curled the ball home from the edge of the area on 7 minutes. Substitute Callum Coker then rounded off the scoring with a goal on 8 minutes. Petersfield Town 8 Fleet Spurs PETERSFIELD Town set a new record for their highest victory after sweeping aside Fleet Spurs in the Hampshire Senior Cup last Tuesday night. The 8- win will go into the record books as the biggest win in the club s history since Town was created. The biggest win for Petersfield United that anyone can remember was 9-. The way the Rams are playing at the moment you wouldn t bet against them re-setting this record again at some point this season with their entertaining, flowing style of football. They took the lead after only 5 seconds when Joe Richardson s cross went directly into the net. The visitor s were level on ten minutes when a long ball into the box was headed on by Sam Knowles and Rams keeper Matt Shortt missed his catch and the ball dropped into the net. Ten minutes later Owain Hoskins smashed in his shot at the second attempt and it was - when Wayne Grant was put clean through and he tucked his shot past the keeper. Steve Cammack then scored from Will Essai s cross and Mike Asare then ran through and dinked his shot over the keeper to make it 5-. In the second half, Cammack got his second after getting in behind the defence. Aaron Camp then smashed home a 4 yard goal of the season contender to make it 7- after only 57 minutes the keeper got nowhere near his shot which hit the top corner. Richardson then rounded off the scoring on 7 minutes when he curled the ball home from 5 yards out. 5

The 8- win over Fleet Spurs in the Hampshire Senior Cup is the new record victory for The Rams. The Robins played their early games on the Common Down before moving to Little Dean Field around 9, a site provided by Sir Norman Hill, the then Lord of the Manor. Soon after the First World War they won the Jorgenson Cup, a competition based around the Kings Somborne area, and during the 9s they won both the Faber Cup and the Sutton Scotney League on three occasions. They entered the Andover Junior League in 9, winning Division Two at the first attempt. This was followed by success in the Hants Junior Cup B in 9 and the North Hants Cup in 95. They moved to the Winchester League a year later where they remained until the outbreak of the Second World War. After the War Stockbridge reverted to the Andover Junior League, winning the championship on four occasions, the League Cup twice and the North Hants Junior Cup followed in 955 and 96. The club were finalists in the Hants Junior A Cup in 95, a big day in its history as the game was played at Portsmouth s Fratton Park ground. The club suffered a severe blow in 97 when Hampshire County Council claimed the Little Dean ground for road improvements, a severe blow for the club which was then faced with the nigh impossible task of finding a new home. The club was only kept going through John Foord, a local farmer, kindly allowing the use of a field. Driven greatly by Elizabeth Viney, the Stockbridge Recreation Trust was formed in 976. Land purchased for a new ground and with many kind donations, numerous fundraising events and hours of work by club members, the project of converting what was virtually a peat bog into a football pitch began to take shape and the ground was opened in August 978. Success off the field was followed by success on it, with the Andover League won in the first season and again in 98. Promotion to the North Hants Senior League in 984 saw the Robins finish second before taking the title four years later. The year 99 is the club s most successful year to date with the North Hants Senior and League Cups, together with the Andover Open and Midweek Cups all won and promotion gained to the Hampshire League Division. Success in Division followed and in 999- the club were elected to the Hampshire League Premier Division. After the demise of the Hampshire League the club were placed in Division of the Wessex League. In 5 the quarter finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup were reached for the first time. Successes continued in local competitions and then problems arose with the need for a stand to be built to ensure continued membership of the Wessex League. Yet again much hard work, fundraising and generous help from the local community ensured this was done and the club continue to play in the Wessex League. The Robins are now looking to new changing rooms and a clubhouse to enhance the facilities further. 6 9

A crowd of,65 crammed into Love Lane for the visit of the Shots after the visitors were demoted from the Football League. In last Tuesday night s programme we printed details of the game and a picture of the crowd that day. As you can imagine, plenty of planning was needed to cope with a crowd of that size inside Love Lane as the preview article above details. A total of 4 stewards were called in to ensure the game passed off safely for spectators and the police were involved in planning meetings for the big day. A,5 print run of programmes was issued to cash in on the big day the programmes are still being sold on e-bay to this day. Although hopes were high that Petersfield could pull off a major upset, Aldershot ended up winning -.
