HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE LATEST EDITION OF YOUR NEWSLETTER. #09 If you have anything to contribute, please do get in You can keep up to date with all the news from around the League by following us on Twitter at HAMPSHIRE SENIOR CUP S andwiched between the opening Rounds of the FA Cup, this week sees the main commencement (one preliminary tie has already been played) of the prestigious Hampshire Senior Cup won last year by Havant and Waterlooville who defeated Blackfield and Langley in the Final at St. Marys writes John Gorman. Round One takes place in the coming week involving seventeen ties and with the Sydenhams League providing a large percentage of the entries ties between Sydenhams Clubs are largely unavoidable but there are Clubs from other Leagues and standings, though sadly not from the Channel Islands this year, and those are the ties that start this preview with the rider that it is written before yesterday s matches. First up are opponents whose strength and ability are unknown, but one can expect a decent level. The Royal Navy FA have entered the Competition this season and will presumably play at Burnaby Road where East Cowes Victoria will be the visitors. Andover New Street travel to the exotically named Eversley and California who play in the Combined Counties League and are based near Yateley with a ground that is notoriously difficult to find. Last season at this stage they travelled to Alresford and went through on penalties after a three all draw. The remaining two matches involving foreign opposition also see Wessex clubs on the road to meet Combined Counties League sides. Petersfield go to Farnborough to meet Cove, who they have probably played in their far-off Ryman League days, whilst Newport will not have blessed a draw that has given them a midweek trip to Fleet Spurs who of course were formerly of this parish. On to the ties in which Clubs are in opposition with each other. Baffins Milton Rovers travel north to Alresford and the two League meetings between the Clubs last season ended in a win apiece whilst one of the ties of the Round could be at Test Park where Team Solent entertain AFC Portchester. In one of those quirks that are always thrown up around cup ties Bashley will host Bournemouth ten days after their FA Cup meeting which resulted in a win for the Poppies. Sholing, unbeaten as this is written, head for the Forest and Brockenhurst and in the last of the all Premier ties Lymington could face a difficult evening at Horndean. Some clashes to savour and none more than on the Waterside where Fawley AFC meet near neighbours Hythe and Dibden with a home tie against Blackfield and Langley the prize for the winners. Romsey play the born again Andover Town at the By Pass Ground and a good game in prospect at Alton where US Portsmouth provide the opposition. Finally the inter-division ties so to speak. Newly promoted Christchurch will welcome New Milton, over whom they did the double in the League last season, to Hurn Bridge while Cowes Sports cross the Solent with six points from their first two League matches to meet Totton and Eling. Another good game in prospect at AFC Stoneham with promoted Tadley the visitors and in the meetings between the two Clubs last season both Clubs won away from home. Stoneham incidentally defeated Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 1 of 18

Whitchurch on the lone Preliminary Round tie. Fareham, whose season has yet to get off the ground, make the short trip along the M27 to Follands whilst Hamble Club will have to tackle the A31 en route to Ringwood, both no doubt wary of banana skins. Good luck to all and there is a potential St Marys Final in prospect on the very far horizon. Whilst in cup mode, please note that the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round tie between United Services Portsmouth and Sholing will now be played on Friday 24 August- with a 19:45 hours kick off time. More domestically, the draw for the Salisbury Hospitals Cup was due this week. Following the completion of last season s competition, the organisers have donated 1500 to local Charites, Salisbury Hospital and Salisbury Help the Aged and the Salisbury & District Football League would also like to thank those involved for the help and support last season And so to this season, nine clubs entering as follows:- Southern League Salisbury; Wessex League - Amesbury Town, Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Downton, Laverstock & Ford and Shaftesbury; Hellenic League - Pewsey Vale and finally Ludgershall Sports and Shrewton United from the Wiltshire League. The draw for the first round and quarter finals this week and hopefully the ties can be played by December leaving Semi-finals for early 2019 and appear elsewhere in this Newsletter. QUICK REMINDER FOR CLUBS- SUB BOARDS One reminder please that ALL clubs MUST use the boards provided to them. This is the only reminder we shall issue. PROGRAMMES It is a requirement of the League that programmes are produced for League and League Cup games, there have been a number of reports of late about clubs not producing them. This is the only reminder we shall issue. The League advert provided by our sponsors must also be included- this is available from the Newsletter editor or as a download from the League website. We are hoping to have the Programme competition running again this season. More information will follow, but one of the criteria will be that those wishing to take part must submit their entries (which must be a League or League Cup tie) to the Newsletter Editor. BIBS- PLAYERS AND PHYSIOS Clubs are reminded that these MUST be worn by substitutes and physios in accordance with guidelines issued. This is the only reminder we shall issue. LATE TEAM SHEETS There is a strict time limit over the submission of these to the Match Officials before each game- please ensure that these are adhered to. This is the only reminder we shall issue. CAPTAIN ARMBANDS These must be worn by the nominated player for each club for the match. This is the only reminder we shall issue. PHOTOGRAPHERS Clubs are reminded that photographers are NOT permitted inside the pitch barrier at any time during our League and League Cup matches. FLOODLIGHTS The floodlight testing programme is about to resume, next month. Clubs on the list for their test have been notified. 3 REFEREE MARKING PROCEDURE As requested earlier this season, clubs are required to award club marks on MOAS (not Full Time) to referees for all Wessex League and Wessex League Cup games. The guide has been circulated to clubs to assist in considering the marks in each of the three sections- 1. Overall Decision Making - 2. Judgement of Major Decisions - 3. Overall Control and Player Management Clubs have 14 days to enter their mark and are asked to ensure that marks are entered after a game in a timely manner, reminders will be sent but missing club marks (without valid reason) may incur a fine. M27 CLOSURE- SEPTEMBER We have heard news regarding the closure of part of the M27 (and M3) over the weekend 28th September to 1st October 2018 that might affect teams visiting the area. In short, two bridges over the M27 need to be replaced. This will necessitate the total closure of the M27 in both directions between Junction 3 (M271 Junction) and Junction 5 (Southampton Airport junction) from 2000hrs on the Friday until 0600hrs on the Monday through the above dates. The main diversion route for this closure is around 58 miles and takes you through Salisbury and onto the A34. There is a local diversion which is shorter but will most likely be subject to traffic jams. Please do allow for extra journey time if your travel arrangements would normally mean you use the M27 between junctions 3 and 5. LONG TERM INJURIES Jordan Westbrook, the Romsey gaol keeper collected a broken right tibia in their game at Fawley I midweek, didn t seem to affect his side too much as they ran out as convincing 6-1 winners. The League extend their best wished to Jordan for a speedy recovery. Conor Whiteley was badly injured last Saturday in the Hamble Alresford Emirates FA Cup tie. In a magnanimous gesture the replay saw all proceeds go to the player to assist with recovery from a broken and dislocated ankle. Again, the League extend their best wishes for a speedy recovery. We also hear that Nathan House ruptured his ACL in Lymington Town s recent game with Hamble Club and could face a year out of the game. The League extend their best wishes for a speedy recovery. NEW SYDENHAMS LOGO The image for using to advertise our sponsors, be it for match day posters, programme articles or similar- has been updated. The new image is on the website but is also reproduced here. You can either grab it from here, the website or the Newsletter Editor for a copy. Please ensure that the new image is used going forwards, it is a cleaner sharper image and is a brighter lighter shade of blue. DAVE DIAPER Following last weeks Emirates FA Cup win Sholing have confirmed that Dave Diapers 1000th game in charge with the club will be on Tuesday 28th August. This will either be away to Tadley Calleva in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup, or a home replay in the Emirates FA Cup to US Portsmouth. Dave linked up with the club as manager in season 1999/2000 having moved across the city from BAT. A former Southampton Schools and Hampshire Representative Player, Dave also played for Cadnam, BHC (IOW), Pirelli, AC Delco, Otterbourne, Netley Victoria Sports and BAT. He also coached the Hampshire League Senior squad and the County under-21 side in 2002, but perhaps the highlight of his career is the winning of the FA Vase at Wembley back in Following the resignation of Mick Marsh Dave Diaper once again took up the managerial reins in October 2014 and of that 1000 games over 550 have been whilst Sholing were members of our League. Well done, and congratulations in reaching this impressive milestone. Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 3 of 18

MIDWEEK MATCH REPORTS We ll start with Monday night football with a crowd in excess of 130, for the derby fixture at Longmeadow. John Gorman writes WHITCHURCH UNITED 1 ANDOVER TOWN 0 This was a good old-fashioned derby with plenty of effort and endeavour, some skill and, apart from one display of childish petulance that was swiftly stamped on by the referee, played in perfectly acceptable spirit throughout. All that was missing were goals from the hatful of chances created by both sides, In light rain, which happily did not last very long, Andover were the first to threaten with a run and cross from Josh Bertie that was headed wide by Elliott Benham. The home side responded with Emlyn Jones denied by keeper Brendan Norris leaving his area to win a through ball and a Corey Cherrett effort that was deflected the wrong side of the post. A huge throw by Norris sent Bertie clear with home keeper Dan Burrowes saving at the expense of a corner before both sides won, and wasted, free kicks on the edge of the penalty area. The tall Bertie, at the heart of most of the Andover attacks, saw another effort tipped over the bar by Burrowes before the visitors Benham missed the best chance of the half thus far, scooping the ball over the bar from inside the six-yard box. Norris put his side in trouble by mis-punching a ball he could have comfortably caught and another free kick from Bertie hit the defensive wall before Whitchurch contrived their own bad miss. The build up between Keiran Fuller and Phil Berntsen was neat but the finishing touch from Fuller was way too high from close range. Confusion between the home goalkeeper and his defence resulted in a corner from which Nathan Lunness headed wide and the last action of the first half saw a promising home attack halted by the referee s whistle when there was a distinct advantage the Official s only noteworthy mistake of the evening. HT 0-0 So a goalless first half but how the scoreline did not change in the opening seconds of the re-start only the unfortunate Benham will know. Jordan Baguette broke down the right and pulled the ball across the six yard where Benham somehow made no contact with the goal gaping in front of him. Norris saved from Josh Jellis at close range and the home side, who were second best in terms of possession in the opening half, enjoyed the better start. Both sides, in their efforts to get forward, were susceptible to the through ball- with both goalkeepers frequently having to act as sweepers before finally the deadlock was broken with 27 minutes on the clock. A Whitchurch free kick from the right touchline was only partially cleared, the ball was returned to the far post, knocked down and Fuller lashed it home from close range. Norris saved from Berntsen at full stretch and Burrowes matched that at the other end to keep out another Bertie piledriver. More efforts from Bertie and Jordan Baguette for the visitors and substitute Craig Rutledge for the home side were dealt with by the two goalkeepers and the usual late flow of substitutes failed to make any marked difference before the final whistle ensured Whitchurch s first points of the season. In fairness a draw would have been a just outcome and Andover were a long way forward from the opening day s debacle, but goals win matches and they, and Whitchurch, were, on the evening rather lacking in front of goal. Two further points of note. Both halves started exactly on time and the attendance was 138 with a large percentage of that number coming from Andover which leads to wonder as to the home crowds they would have attracted in the Southern League. FT 1-0 Mike Robins writes NEW MILTON TOWN 3-1 RINGWOOD TOWN The hosts got off to a flying start when a finely weighted through ball found Ben COOPER who out stripped his marker finishing well with just two minutes on my watch. The Linnets Pearson tested Edmonds in the visiting goal a couple of minutes later, and although the hosts were in the ascendancy- and should perhaps have scored again in this opening spell, Ringwood clawed their Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 5 of 18

way back into the game when the hurried defence gave away a penalty on 33 with a push and left Lee VINT to convert well at the road end of the ground with young keeper Mayo going the wrong way. HT 1-1 In another quick start, with many of the 100 plus crowd making their way back to their places, it was COOPER again to put the Linnets 2-1 ahead. A free kick about level with the refreshment kiosk was fired home, albeit with a deflection off a Ringwood defender in the wall with the keeper wrong-footed. With 55 minuets on the clock it was a wonderfully worked bit of individual magic from sub Erickson MUKAMBI made the score 3-1. Taking on three or four defenders on a mazy run and slipping it under the advancing Edmonds. The hosts were playing the ball confidently in all departments.# Ill-discipline caused the visitors to lose two players with second yellows as the half marched on, and in quick succession- although the result was beyond any real doubt by then anyway, although both sides had chances to hit the target. FT 3-1 John Gorman writes PETERSFIELD TOWN 3-1 ALTON This was a game that took a very long time to get going with the ball frequently bouncing both high and awkwardly on a hard, yellow tinged pitch, play restricted mainly to midfield, and the two sides largely cancelling each other out. A dangerous cross from Petersfield s Josh Sheehan sailed unhindered across the six-yard area whilst at the other end Scott Sanderson just failed to make contact with a similar cross at the far post and the visitors Max Smith was inches too high from twenty yards and that was the content of my notebook as the game approached the 40 minute mark. At that point Harry Tremlett s control allied to one or two ineffective challenges took him in to the Alton area, the ball ran loose and Luke PAYNE swept it across and past keeper Aaron Bufton to give the home side the lead. One goal almost immediately became two as, under no real pressure, Alton s Ben Williams headed the ball an inch or so wide of his own post with Bufton stranded in the middle of his goal. After that burst of excitement, the half time whistle almost came as a relief! HT 1-0 With a goal to their credit Petersfield started the second half strongly with Ben Neal just too high following neat play down the right and after Jordan Neal, whose ability in the air was a threat all evening, had sent him clear, Payne rounded the goalkeeper, but the angle was too acute and the ball ended in the side netting. Alton responded with shots from Smith and half time substitute Liam Knight that were well held by Tim Jackson in the home goal, but it was Petersfield who struck again after fifteen minutes. Goalscorer Payne was replaced by Gari JUDD and when Ollie Kershaw found space on the right for a low cross, the ball was turned in to the net by Judd with his first touch. An inspired substitution! Alton badly wasted a free kick from the edge of the D, the ball disappearing in to the trees behind the goal, before their own substitution bore fruit on the half hour mark as Henry FOX, who had come on at the same time as Judd, rose highest at the far post to head home a right-wing corner. More substitutes made their entry with Neal being perhaps surprisingly replaced by the home side, and Alton twice threatened from further corners before a rather frantic final five minutes. The visitors slightly lost their discipline with three quick cautions one harsh, two fully justified, before the home side wrapped things up with a somewhat controversial third goal. There certainly looked to be a foul on an Alton defender in the build up, the defence hesitated, there was no whistle and TREMLETT lashed the ball in to the net. Cue two further bookings and some dispute but there were handshakes all round at the final whistle and overall the right side won on the night. FT 3-1 There certainly seems a better spirit at Love Lane (or the SureFix Stadium) this season with secretary Mark Nicoll ebullient after Saturday s FA Cup win and happy with events both on and off the pitch. May it continue as they deserve an upturn in fortunes. Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 6 of 18

Roger Allen writes LAVERSTOCK & FORD 1-2 AMESBURY TOWN An excellent crowd of 152 witnessed this keenly awaited Wiltshire derby even more remarkable because neighbours Salisbury were at home the same evening. If the first half hour was anything remarkable it was for the number of corners. The two teams must have racked up 15 in the first period and at both ends because the game was evenly contested. The first clear cut chance fell to Laverstock s Tom Mundy who was through on goal but Amesbury keeper, David Cardus, saved at the expense of another corner. It was no surprise that this corner led to the first goal though it was at the other end of the pitch as Amesbury s sweeping move ended with a low shot by Jordan MATTHEWS past Tom Roberts in the Laverstock s goal time on the clock 31 minutes. HT 0-1 Laverstock had a golden chance to open the second half with a goal but Chae Sykes shot wide. However, they were on level terms on 54 minutes as James Ward & Archie Lovegrove combined down the right to supply the cross for MUNDY to bundle home at the far post. Mundy had a further chance to score but shot wide. On 68 minutes Amesbury took the lead again with what was to prove the winning goal. Jake Allen supplied the pass for Robbie OWEN to score with a low shot. The next chance fell to Amesbury as Harry Beckley s shot was tipped onto a post by Roberts and back into play. Laverstock s hopes were dealt a blow on 75 minutes as Graham Mankin received a 2nd yellow for retaliating after being fouled. His shirt reached the dug out before he did, and he promptly turned and walked half the length of the field to leave the pitch with the predictable exchange of views with the referee. The game was now becoming very open with chances at either end. With the additional player Amesbury were generally in the ascendancy though there was one last chance of a twist in the tail for Laverstock. Keeper, Roberts, was up for a final corner and as the ball broke to him inches outside the penalty area, he was body checked by an Amesbury player. A huge wall assembled but the free kick was on target only to be beaten away by Cardus at which point the referee called time. A breathless end to well contested game. For Amesbury it was their first win of the season, all the sweeter because it was over neighbours Laverstock. FT 1-2 Mike Robins writes HYTHE & DIBDEN 2-1 VERWOOD TOWN My seventh visit to the Clayfields nearly saw a goal in the first minute as Verwood s Eaton made a run from half way only to see his delivery just too far ahead of his onrushing colleagues. The first real save of the game cam on the quarter hour when Tierney was quick to react from Woodward s strike. The game was end to end, and indeed was for the vast majority of the game, albeit with both keepers kicking long. The opening goal came on 25 when a decent through ball was collected by WOODWARD lobbing the ball into the roof of the net over the advancing keeper. It didn t stay that way front long mind, with Verwood getting a free kick from around 35 yards out near the training area touchline. Skipper Dyer s pinpoint effort was nodded home by Sam JOY in a congested goalmouth to make it all square, and one apiece at the break. HT 1-1 Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 7 of 18

The second half was much in the same vein as the first with both sides having chances to go in front, although neither goalkeeper was really tested until just after the hour mark. The visitors gave away a silly free kick that Tessem delivered but nobody could get on the end of it and it remained 1-1. However, it was Verwood who looked like scoring in this period of play, with openings created by Eaton and Davies giving the home defence grief. So it was a bit of a surprise that it was Hythe who went ahead on 76 minutes. The visiting defence couldn t clear their lines at the Clubhouse End and veteran TESSEM had an easy tap in to make it 2-1. Play had become stretched as time ran out and there were no more real chances at either end. FT 2-1.AND ELSEWHERE AFC PORTCHESTER 0-3 AFC STONEHAM An impressive replay victory for AFC Stoneham, playing in their first Emirates FA Cup campaign, against their higher-level hosts. The visitors went ahead as the interval loomed with Sergio CABALLERO capitalising on a blocked clearance. This seemed to galvanise the visitors who then extended their lead through Alex WELCH seven minutes after the resumption. The hosts were losing their discipline- arguing amongst themselves and were clearly rattled. Matt PALMER put the game beyond doubt on 72 when the keeper fumbled the ball and the keeper almost gifted the visitors a fourth as time ran out. FAWLEY 1-6 ROMSEY TOWN Given the end result, it was probably quite a surprise for a neutral to witness just a goal each at Fawley in their game against Romsey. Ben Bolton made the most of a miscue from the visiting keeper that rebounded off a visiting defender. The visitors keeper was taken off injured and that enforced change changed the game, but it was the visitors who went on to claim the three points. An injury time leveller from Pearce FARREN made it 1-1 at the break. Although the Oilers lost a player with a second yellow card, goals from Aldeano, Draycott with a double and Clifton, put the result beyond reach of the hosts- the best goal was the fifth when a stunning 30-yard strike from Craig Bryant flew home off the underside of the crossbar. CHRISTCHURCH 1-5 SHOLING Severe traffic delays westbound certainly didn t seem to affect eh Boatmen who ran out comfortable winners at Hurn Bridgehowever three of the goals came in the last eight minutes and all through their striker Lee Wort. Targett opened the scoring on 17 minutes and Dan Mason doubled the lead ten minutes before the break. The hosts enjoyed a better second half and came back into contention with a super Grant Cormack header from a free kick before the late goals changed everything. Christchurch had two players and Sholing one taken to the Royal Bournemouth after injury during the game. We wish all concerned speedy recoveries. Two evenly matched teams, both missing their main striker, slugged this one out with a goal 12 minutes from time separating the sides. Noel McCarthy-Gardner had an early chance for Brock which he shot wide, but it was 20 minutes later before the next clear chance when Shaun Dallimore headed over from a Tadley corner. Dallimore also had the next chance when his shot was beaten away by Matt Taylor in the Brock goal. The final chance of the half fell to Brock captain Will Tickle who cut in from the right but Tadley keeper, Chris Harris, kept the shot out at his near post at the expense of a corner. HT 0-0 The half time introduction of Nathan Gray to lead Brock's attack sparked the game into life in the early part of the second half. Both Gray and Tickle had good chances to equalise but their efforts were well saved by Harris who was on his way to being the Man of the Match. The only goal, when it came in the 78th minute, contained an element of good fortune. A poor clearance by Brock keeper Taylor, landed at the feet of Sam HAMILTON 40 yards from goal. He returned the ball with interest, bouncing it over the stranded keeper into an empty net. There were chances at either end to finish the game but lots of honest toil were not rewarded with another goal. FT 0-1 Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 14 of 18

Mike Robins writes HAMWORTHY UNITED 2-1 HORNDEAN There was little to choose between the two sides in the first half, perhaps the hosts shaded it on goal attempts with the best coming from Hammers Cann, latching on to a great through ball from Bayston with Horndean s Magee just managing to stretch enough to tip it away for a corner on the half hour mark. The visitors Jackson fired wide as the half drew to a close after good build-up play from Hookey and Glasspool, but neither keeper was really troubled in the opening 45. HT 0-0 The visitors looked to take control after the resumption, and they looked more likely to score for the first ten minutes. The game changed though close to the hour. Horndean s Magee brought down a Hammers striker and was rewarded with a red card. Home skipper Nathan WALKER converted well to make it 1-0. The visitors had to shuffle the pack having already made a couple of changes and it looked like it was game over when Nathan WALKER grabbed his second on 73 minutes. However, Peprah-Annan impeded a Kajanda run into the area that saw Horndean given a penalty, the chance to get back into the game was wasted though as Glasspool hit the foot of the upright and it remained 2-0. The game lost its way with several needless challenges and unnecessary dissent, but it was not really a surprise that Horndean eventually did find the net when Harry JACKSON hit home with five minutes left. FT 2-1 Gary Day writes TEAM SOLENT 3-4 BOURNEMOUTH This was an entertaining Wessex Premier encounter at Test Park, the game going in the Poppies favour by the odd goal in seven. The visitors took a fourth minute lead when FLYNN netted with a fine twisting header back into the near corner from a left-wing cross. Solent responded with Poppies keeper Jones clawing away a dangerous Penny corner and Kasimu, who stayed on his feet having been fouled in the box, eventually got a shot in that was cleared off the line. Bournemouth added to their lead in the 13th minute when a loose ball out of defence by Solent was collected by FROST who leathered it straight back from fully 30-yards and it thumped off the inside the far post and in for an excellent strike. Solent hadn t played too badly and they got a goal back soon after with Haji and Penny combining, the latter s pass found KASIMU who controlled it, swept past a defender and fired home low. Another Solent error in defence almost produced a third Poppies goal but keeper Morella parried a Finch shot and the loose ball was cleared whilst, back at the other end, Bennett forced a low diving save from Jones. The Poppies added number three when a long free-kick by Langston went into the box and FLYNN sent a looping header over everyone and the ball drifted into the net. It almost got worse for the Sparks when a jinking Finch run ended with the shot just clearing the bar. Solent reduced the arrears close to half time when EATON latched onto a Wallace pass, controlled it and planted a low 18-yard shot past Jones to record his first senior goal. HT 2-3. Eaton attempted a long-range effort from a wide position that hit the Poppies crossbar early in the second half. Solent were soon level though as on the hour mark, Stahler got down the right and a poor defensive touch enabled KASIMU to place a low shot past Jones. It was anyone s game from here and Solent went for it with Penny putting in Bennett whose shot was blocked, Penny clipped the ball past the keeper but it was deflected clear and an exquisite Bennett turn on the left-hand side of the box saw him set up Penny whose effort was well defended by Spears. It was the Poppies who edged back in front again when Finch pumped Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 15 of 18

a free-kick into the Solent box and that man FLYNN got up unchallenged at the far post to head home and complete his hat-trick. Solent looked to come back again as sub Esfandiari found Eaton who put it just over and then, deep into stoppage time, the Poppies won a free-kick on the edge of the Solent box which Saadi put just over. FT 3-4. It was thrill-a-minute stuff at times with Flynn s aerial threat proving tough for the home defence to handle whilst Solent looked impressive with their passing game through midfield. If all chances had been snaffled then the score of this one could have been seven-all. The paying attendance of only twelve undoubtedly got their money s worth! To this Solent scribe the team didn t deserve to come off the pitch empty handed on the day, a point apiece would have been a fair outcome. Finally, spare a thought for Ron Frost, who scored what he claimed to be goal of the season with that distant strike for Poppies (despite the campaign still being so young!) but it seemed that the family arrived for the second half and missed it! You ll just have to do it again for them someday but preferably not in the return game! WEEK THREE ROUND UP M onday night football again with a local derby at Longmeadow between Whitchurch and Andover Town. Prior to the game neither side had secured a point and a share of same would have been a fair result. Both were sadly lacking in front of goal but the home side finally broke the deadlock midway through the second half for what was to be the only goal of the game. injured Conor Whiteley. In the last of the three ties Brockenhurst won by a similar score at Christchurch and now travel to Hellenic League side Binfield, near Wokingham, in the next round. In there were five different scorers for Romsey in their six one win at Fawley only Harry Draycott scored twice and Ben Cooper also claimed two as New Milton made it six points out of six with a three one defeat of Ringwood. Petersfield followed up their FA Cup win by Reverting briefly to last week the League were beating Alton three one in the North East sorry to hear of the serious injury suffered by Hampshire derby and with the fixture reversed Alresford s Conor Whiteley in the tie at Hamble Downton defeated Totton and Eling by the odd Club and wish him a speedy and full recovery. goal in three at Wick Lane. Perhaps the best win of Tuesday was devoted to FA Cup replays and the five matches played however was at fixtures and the three Cup Ties all Laverstock where local rivals Amesbury dented resulted in away wins with FC Stoneham taking the the home side s one hundred per cent record with main honours. Having held AFC a two one victory and on an evening when the Portchester to a goalless draw at home they increase in attendances this season continued, travelled across to the Crest Finance Stadium and this game attracted a gate in excess of one a goal just before the break together with two hundred and fifty. The midweek more in the second half gave them victory and a games were completed on Wednesday when home tie with Woking based Westfield in the next Hythe and Dibden ended Verwood s unbeaten run round. Hamble Club scored twice without reply at with a two one victory at Clayfields, Jo Tessem Alresford with Nathan Lynch opening his account scoring one of the goals. On the same night at New for the season to earn a lucrative tie at Salisbury in Milton, Lymington, who had to come from behind a week s time. Immense credit to both Clubs for to draw at Sandhurst on Saturday, made no donating the gate receipts from the tie to the mistake in the replay winning five one with Charlie Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 16 of 18

Willett scoring twice. They will now be at home to Frimley Green, conquerors of Fareham in the last round. This weekend started on Friday with Sholing making it three wins out of three with a five one victory at Christchurch. With less than ten minutes to go Sholing led two one but a hat trick inside six minutes by Lee Wort made it a far more emphatic score line. Whilst Sholing starting the season with nine points from nine cannot perhaps be described as surprising that is perhaps the case in that the only Club to match them is Tadley Calleva, newly promoted this season. After two home wins their first game on the road resulted in a single goal victory at Brockenhurst in front of the highest attendance of the day with Sam Hamilton the scorer. Cowes Sports had also won their first two games but the found the much improved Baffins Milton Rovers too strong going down four one on the mainland - unfortunately we cannot give credit to the scorers as they were not reported [subsequently added after receipt mid-morning - Ed]. Hamble Club and Alresford met for the third time in eight days and again the former came out on top winning three nil to leave the Arlebury Park Club with no points and just one goal to date. Hamworthy United won a close encounter with Horndean by the odd goal in three with Nathan Walker scoring twice and Bournemouth continued their impressive start to the season with a four three win at Team Solent. Steve Flynn has carried his goalscoring skills in to the and claimed three of the Poppies goals whilst Hisham Kasimu scored twice for the Students. Another decent attendance at Portland, 134, saw an Alex Halloran goal give the home side victory over AFC Portchester and Lymington followed up their midweek Cup victory with a two goal win at Andover New Street who are still looking for their first point. Bemerton did claim their first point of the season but it was so nearly three as Bashley scored in second half stoppage time to level matters while Fareham, finally, were another side going in to the day without a point to their name but they claimed three with a two nil defeat of Shaftesbury at Cams Alders. Though in fairness they have played more games than most, Verwood will be enjoying looking down from the top of the table after spending virtually all of last season in the bottom two and a goal in first half stoppage time was enough to give them victory over Follands and nine points out of twelve overall. Follands meanwhile have played two and lost two. AFC Stoneham have also only played two and an impressive three one success at Alton maintained their one hundred per cent record. Amesbury, finding life at the lower level to their liking, followed up their midweek win at Laverstock and Ford with a four nil defeat of Fawley two goals for Jordan Matthews whilst Laverstock went down again, this time by the odd goal in three at US Portsmouth. New Milton lost for the first time as East Cowes won three nil at Beatrice Avenue and also on the Island, in the game between the two relegated Clubs Newport defeated Petersfield by two goals to nil. Hythe and Dibden took their goal tally for the season to eleven in sharing six goals at Ringwood where there were six different names on the score sheet but Andover Town still remain without a point after going down four nil to Downton at the Portway with Shaun Prentice scoring twice for the visitors. The game between Totton and Eling and Whitchurch was postponed because of pitch problems and is to be played at Whitchurch on Monday evening with the normal 7.45 kick off. The League Programme largely takes a rest this midweek as the Hampshire Senior Cup holds sway before it is the FA Cup again next Saturday. Sunday, 19 August /19 Edition #09 Page 17 of 18
