3 John Gorman has a look at how things change over the years through the opening words from some longforgotten Match Day Programmes. AFC ALDERMASTON January 2009 Welcome to Whitchurch United and their supporters and officials for today s Wessex Division One game. The two Clubs were 12th and 13th in a table led by Totton and Eling and after a spell in the doldrums Aldermaston are now back at Step Six in the Hellenic League. BRADING TOWN August 2011 We would welcome the Officials and Players of Rozel Rovers who have made the journey from Jersey for today s Hampshire Senior Cup Fixture. The visitors travelled by Ferry to Portsmouth and then on to the Island, and having defeated Brading by two goals to one repeated the Ferry crossing to visit Romsey in the next round. HAYLING UNITED October 2011 A warm and friendly welcome is extended to the players, officials and supporters of today s opponents Winchester City. Hayling were bottom and Winchester top of Division One at this fairly early stage of the season and it showed in the result with the visitors winning by nine goals to nil. It also shows how the Pyramid works given the levels at which the two Clubs are now enjoying their football. POOLE TOWN October 2010 Welcome to Tatnam today for our latest match of the 2010/11 season and our visitors in the Wessex League are Newport IOW. This was Poole s last season in the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) before promotion and they were already top of the table in early October. It was a typical bulky Bill Reid Programme and again is an example of how the Pyramid works given Poole s current position SHAFTESBURY TOWN August 2009 Tonight, we welcome the Management and Players of Andover New Street. Enjoy your stay and have a safe journey home. This was during the Dorset Club s previous spell in the League and very early in the season so no League table was included in the Programme. WARMINSTER TOWN December 2010 Today we welcome Andover New Street to Weymouth Road for our first game for three weeks because of the weather. This was in the middle of Warminster s five years in the Wessex League having come up from the Wiltshire League before transferring to the Western League where they still remain. This match was in Division One with Portchester topping the table and Amesbury at the bottom at the time. The ever-changing face of the football we enjoy every week. Both sides showed changes, Solent s due to injuries and unavailability as, once again, a number of last season s under-16 team pulled on the brand new 2017/18 season shirt. Solent started brightly with Stahler getting down the right and picking out Hunt at the back post but he couldn t direct his header towards goal. Home keeper O Rourke had to be on his toes to push away a handstinging drive from wide on the right by Ohameje, who was well found by Jamie Wilson. Thomas, the Poppies keeper, was next in action as Orvis fired in a low shot from the right and he got down low to save. Orvis then won the ball well and passed to skipper Wiseman who slipped in Obeng who was next to test Thomas with a low shot, again the diving keeper kept it out. Obeng was just unable to direct another effort towards goal from an Orvis corner. Bournemouth also had several raids but the young Solent back line was in a determined mood and up for the task. That stated, with the first half into stoppage time, O Rourke made a save after a long free-kick located the lunging boot of Foreman in the box. HT: 0-0. Solent manager James Taylor (aka The Cat ) came out of retirement to take over the keeper s jersey for the second half as O Rourke had picked up an injury. Cat, the thirtieth player to be used by Team Solent already this season, was actually playing with a broken thumb due to a cricket injury! When Solent lost the ball, the Poppies mounted a raid, Ohameje and Makhloufi were involved, the latter crossing to Jamie Wilson who stretched to get to it but stuck it over. A dinked header by Jamie Wilson then cleared the Solent bar. Back to the other end and Wiseman played a smart one-two with Obeng but his shot went just wide of the visitors goal. Solent came close to netting in the 68th minute as Ethan Taylor s right-wing corner went to Thorn, who ghosted in on the far side, his header back across the goal was drifting inside the post but a defender on the line completed the job of clearing. Another Ethan Taylor flag kick again went to the back stick and found Obeng whose header went wide. It was a thrill a minute now as Makhloufi for the Poppies made fine progress on the left and he passed to Jamie Wilson whose low effort was well blocked by the industrious Butler. The ball went back up the other end with a long Cat punt which was well controlled by Obeng and his shot was deflected clear by Donachy. Ethan Taylor made a fine defensive tackle to rob Ohameje in a potentially dangerous position. There was a penalty shout when Hunt won the ball with his head and it looked as though the challenging keeper had connected with the young Solent midfielder seen em given, but not this time! Nathan Taylor, looking like a mature defender despite his young years, was the next to get in a good tackle and deny Makhloufi to Sunday, 03 September /18 Edition #12 Page 5 of 15

6 concede a corner. Poppies Jamie Wilson hit the bar with a shot, a rare occasion when Solent didn t clear in the box but by now they deserved that bit of good fortune. There were two late calls for the referee to make. First, a through pass sent another young Solent player, sub Bennett away down the middle and two Poppies players converged and challenged, one certainly played the man and a yellow card was deemed necessary. Next, Cat was out quick to get a heavy tackle in on a Poppies man who went over and this was also considered worthy of a yellow too. It was soon all over. FT: 0-0. With no disrespect intended to the Poppies, the Solent performance does need a special mention and, with a bit more fortune there could have been a 1 recorded in the wins column. Once again, the young (under 17) players were selected and they didn t disappoint three of them forming the Sparks back four and they grew into the game with a composed performance by young Nathan Taylor at centre-back alongside Thorn who played at fullback last season. In midfield, Hunt had a fine presence down The number of League game played by Team Solent at Test Park since moving to this ground in October 2011 is 106 which includes one away game that was reversed. The total games on this ground is 137 which includes an away cup-tie that was played on this ground. This was the first game to finish without a goal being scored in a match on the main pitch. Whilst we all love to see the ball hit the back of the net (depending on which side perhaps) there s been one or two games that have provided less entertainment than this one but did produce goals. This was the 204th Wessex League game played by Team Solent since joining the ranks in the summer of 2011 and only the fifth goalless match the club has been involved in, the others are finishing /08/2011 at Pewsey Vale (their first ever match in the Wessex League); 15/10/2011 at Whitchurch United; 10/11/2015 at Bournemouth; 04/04/2017 at Bournemouth. the left alongside some more experienced campaigners. One of those midfielders was Butler, who put in a virtuoso performance. A second-year student, he s getting a new lease of life in midfield, having also been used in a full-back berth during an injury prone previous campaign. He showed tenacity and guile, his tackling was first class, his passing accurate and he read the game exquisitely. He played an inspirational part in a performance of fine application throughout the ranks. So, a point for Solent, their first of the campaign and an end to a run of eleven consecutive defeats (three of them from the end of last season). With hackneyed jokes about European Song Contest votes now allayed, there is still a lot to do as the team remains at the bottom of the Wessex Premier pile but this result and, most importantly, the performance, will do the team a power of good. It is however, four successive matches without scoring a goal for the Solent lads, a statistic that might cause some concern despite a fine effort in this game, it should go without saying what you have to do to have any kind of chance of winning a football match. However, this outcome is clearly a step in the right direction. John Gorman writes TADLEY CALLEVA 5-0 WHITCHURCH UNITED Last season Tadley and Whitchurch were a Division apart before the latter s relegation placed them together. On the evidence of Tuesday s encounter, they could be a Division apart again next season with Tadley moving up though it has to be accepted that it is early days as yet. And this is not to belittle Whitchurch either for though on the night the right side won, it could be said that the score line was hard on the visitors who battled throughout and certainly did not throw in the towel at any stage. The early stages of the game were fairly even with a late, and it must be said fairly dubious, offside flag halting a promising Tadley attack whilst Whitchurch had the first chance of any note, Jack Ormiston sending a free header over the bar from a Luke Neller free kick. David Panter had a shot blocked and after the referee made good use of the advantage the visitors wasted a cross when they had numbers in the area. But it was the home side who opened the scoring on fifteen minutes in a manner that was to trouble Whitchurch all evening. The initial ground was made on the right and a long diagonal cross saw Connor THORNE rise unchallenged amid a static defence to head home. Sunday, 03 September /18 Edition #12 Page 6 of 15

7 Panter was crowded out in a Whitchurch break and at the other end Paul Coventry was denied by keeper Jepth Doguie s legs after Brett Denham had sent him clear. Midway through the half Tadley made it two as Whitchurch only partially cleared a corner, the ball was played back into the area, and DENHAM s turn and shot gave the possibly unsighted goalkeeper no chance. Denham was inches away from a second when he just failed to make contact at the far post and then hit the side netting after a clever through ball by Coventry. The pressure always looked likely to lead to further goals but the third one came from the spot rather than open play. A long run down the right by Sam Hamilton was halted illegally just inside the area and COVENTRY, a former Whitchurch player, coolly converted the penalty to give his side a comfortable lead at the break. On the restart Doguie rescued his side with two saves in quick succession following a horrible back pass but after a booking for Panter for what was little more than an innocuous collision the problem with crosses surfaced again and Whitchurch were four down. This time it was a corner from the left that evaded the defence for Danny VICKERS to volley forcefully home at the far post. To their credit the visitors did not give up and began to enjoy a greater share of the possession and after substitute Josh Jellis had won a corner home keeper Craig Atkinson was forced into a point blank save to keep his goal intact. Coventry was narrowly wide with a clever glancing header and at the other end a break by Corey Cherrett was stopped by sheer weight of numbers. As Tadley perhaps sat back Whitchurch had two free kicks in dangerous positions but the wall and goalkeeper did their job before Denham made space at the other end only to pull his shot across the face of goal. With the temperature dropping and the game over as a contest it was a case of waiting for the final whistle, but Whitchurch s inability to deal with crosses surfaced again in the last minute as COVENTRY looped a free header over the keeper to make it five. A better game than the final result suggests but Tadley will win far more than they lose this season and have a potent strike force in Coventry and Denham. Whitchurch s young side will improve game by game but they badly need some height at the back and perhaps experience to aid the clever Neller in midfield. Mike Robins writes BROCKENHURST 0-2 LYMINGTON TOWN It took a long while for this game to settle down, played at a fast tempo there was not much to choose between the local rivals in the early stages. The Badgers were forced to make two early changes in a physical battle that no doubt affected their game plan, despite this they did have more of the play than their visitors. Chances though were hard to come by and Lymington scored on their first concerted attack around the half hour mark. Finding himself on the right flank Sam HOUSE was able to cut inside a couple of defenders and thereby gave himself some time and space to fire home from around 15 yards out at the College end of the ground with Badgers keeper Taylor not quite able to get enough on the ball to keep it out. At the interval then it was 0-1. Barely two minutes into the second half, and it was HOUSE who doubled his tally and that of the visitors, connecting from a corner with a diving header he put the ball low into the corner from six yards away. Both sides tried to create openings but neither side could really get on top and at the full time whistle it was 0-2. Mike Robins writes CHRISTCHURCH 3-0 NEW MILTON TOWN The early stages suggested that this would be a close-run contest. The first offering almost caught out Frampton in the home goal- a New Milton free kick from near the dugout was not intercepted by the hosts and there were two unmarked strikers on hand but the ball evaded them as well. The visitors continued to press for the opening goal with Rico Wilson beating the offside trap but failing to trouble Frampton when breaking through on goal, both he and Aspin created some chances during the opening spell. Sunday, 03 September /18 Edition #12 Page 7 of 15

8 It wasn t all one-way mind. Brailey and Blake both had ranging efforts. But Christchurch did get that allimportant opener on 26 minutes. A pinpoint Crossfield ball from Claremont picked out Luke STONE who struck the ball home from around 20 yards with Burgess unable to reach the strike. Milton almost came back with a reply immediately. Frampton forced to palm away an Aspin strike and react well to a Wilson shot. Around the half hour mark, Wilcock would probably have done better on another day, when well placed in front of goal, but his involvement in the next moves saw Burgess race off his line to close down the threat. Christchurch grabbed their second with just over five minutes left in the first half- Matt NEALE having a fierce drive that found the back of the net, making it 2-0 at the whistle. The second period started almost as frantically as the first, but neither team could string together any meaningful passes. With the final quarter of the game approaching the hosts began to get on top again. Following a goal that was ruled out for a foul on Frampton, Stone was able to break away chasing a Neale pass but his effort fell wide of the target. Another Blake attempt was also just wide of the mark. At the other end Flynn and Scrimshaw combined well and the final ball in found Wilson who couldn t convert the chance on the hour. Wilson had three other good chances but a combination of luck, and timely challenges kept the visitors out. Ten minutes left and Luke STONE grabbed his second. Burgess had already made a fine save but from Neale s resulting corner Stone converted from close in. There was still time for Milton to mount a couple more attacks, but were unable to penetrate the defence and the game ended in a 3-0 win for the hosts. John Bidwell writes HORNDEAN 0-2 BODMIN TOWN Sunny day and blue skies and a good crowd, let down by a low key performance by the home side. Horndean started too casually as Bodmin tried to break quickly down the flanks and trying to set up the pacy bearded Watson looking like a Cornish pirate with matching tattoos, and a perfect foil for Carter, a tall bustling centre forward. It was no surprise when Bodmin took the lead early on when Jewell the left back who was posing a threat down the flank, got forward and went on a run into the opposition half and delivered a low diagonal cross to the far post where Adam CARTER slid the ball into the net. Horndean had plenty of possession and tried a few shots from outside the area, collected by the away keeper, before Smith got behind the defence and his shot was clawed away by the keeper to Maloney at the far post who blazed over the bar from close range. The miss by Horndean proved more costly when Jewell again found space down the left and his cross reached the far corner and was crossed to the far post where CARTER headed the ball downward past the home keeper and into the net. Maloney curled a shot from outside the penalty area which hit the top of the cross bar. HT 0-2. Horndean out early for the second half and the substitute Mound pushed forward and got in some searching crosses but Bodmin packed their penalty area and proved difficult to break down. Fewer chances in the second half as Horndean tried to get shots away but kept running into Bodmin defenders and the closest they came to a goal was from a long throw in flicked on by a header from Smith past the keeper but hacked off the line by a Bodmin defender. Horndean had nothing to show for their second half dominance and heard a Horndean supporter say Bodmin winning was the eighth wonder of the world, quite a posh heckle at a football match. 9 Next Saturday sees the start of this season s FA Vase Competition with seventeen ties involving Sydenhams Wessex League Clubs. As usual there are too many matches - nine to be precise in which our Clubs are paired together and it would be nice if the FA realised that the joy of Cup Competitions such as the Vase is meeting sides from outside your normal sphere. So, beginning with those nine matches, two sides who have started the season well in Division One, Tadley Calleva and Andover New Street, meet at Barlows Park whilst Brockenhurst travel to Shaftesbury for a game which could go either way. Probably the tie of the round in this section is at Fiveheads Park where Horndean entertain an Andover side who have not come out of the hat too well in any of the Cup Competitions to date, and in the sort of quirk Will it be this season that we get a Sydenhams representative back at Wembley in the Buildbase FA Vase after- Wimborne Town [1992]- Winner Winchester City [2004]- Winner AFC Totton [2007]- Runners Up Sholing [2014]- Winner of fate that Cup draws always throw up, Bemerton go to Hamble Club for what will be the third meeting between the two Clubs already this season. To date Hamble have won in the League and League Cup- so Bemerton will be hoping it is third time lucky. AFC Stoneham have a difficult tie at Hamworthy, who have started the season so well in the Premier Division, while Amesbury, who could do with a win, entertain New Milton. Verwood, who have not started the season as well as they probably would have liked, make the long haul to US Portsmouth, always difficult opponents on their own ground, and Fawley will perhaps travel to Laverstock & Ford with a little trepidation given that the two Clubs currently occupy top and bottom places in Division One. The last all Wessex League tie takes Premier Division leaders Baffins Milton Rovers across the Solent to Cowes Sports for another test of their credentials following their promotion. The first tie involving foreign opposition comes at East Cowes where the Vics host Calne Town who make the long journey from Wiltshire. Calne play in the Western League Division One with five points from five games as this is written. Western League opposition too at Love Lane where Petersfield will be looking to continue their recent upsurge in form, if not results, against Corsham Town who currently have four points from six in the same League as Calne. Follands travel to Warminster Town, once of the Wessex League, who have made a good start to the season and there is an interesting tie for Romsey, also against former Wessex League opposition in AFC Aldermaston. The Berkshire based Club returned to Step Six in the Hellenic League last season but this is their first foray in to the Vase for some considerable time. With the game being played on a Saturday there will not be the counter attraction of Line Dancing in the Clubhouse as is often the case in midweek. Newport also host a former Wessex League Club in Fleet Spurs whilst Lymington travel to the soulless Spectrum Ground to meet Guildford City, who knocked Newport out of the FA Cup. Ringwood host Combined Counties side Eversley & California, who went out of the FA Cup at the hands of Amesbury and finally Combined Counties opposition also for Hythe & Dibden who entertain Bagshot, currently mid table in Division One. Good luck to all. Sunday, 03 September /18 Edition #12 Page 9 of 15

The Magpies are struggling, and they lost their manager this week - Trevor Senior back in (so far) temporary charge. The game had 0-0 written all over it, not great, although the optimists might say the home team defended well against their higher-placed opponents. I thought they didn't really push that hard for the win, though, and it took a clever substitution to create a late winner. The visitors had most of the possession in the first half, with the Royals being restricted to breaks. Beasley forced home keeper Noice into an early save with a curling free-kick. Egan had a good run down the right and pulled the ball back for Blair to fire over. The home team's first effort came on 21 mins, a good cross from the right saw a header from Kirby well tipped over by Weale. The visitors should have taken the lead soon after as good work down the left by Lowes saw a cross that Blair glanced wastefully wide. Beasley then had a header from a corner saved by Noice, who exuded confidence throughout. After half an hour, the home team forced three corners, from the last Hayes had a header saved by Weale. At the other end Winsper dribbled past several players but Noice came out well to block his shot. HT 0-0. After the break visiting sub Bastick caused trouble down the right for the defenders. He set up Blair, good save by Noice, Beasley blasted the rebound over. Then he forced Noice into a save from an acute angle. The home team showed slightly more ambition, Evans had a shot deflected wide, had another saved, then produced a great cross that missed everybody. Blair (twice) and Beasley fired well over from good positions as the visitors also threatened, and Bastick had another shot from the right saved. But the best chance was on 70 mins, when Winsper put Blair clear, but he made a complete mess of his shot as Noice came out. This the Magpies came to rue, as on 83 mins, Todd, who had just been brought on as sub, challenged Weale for a high ball, won it, the ball was cleared off the line by Egan, but EVANS, following up on the right, blasted it into the net to great jubilation. The visitors tried to come back, had a shout for a penalty as Bastick fell down, a shot from sub Jerrard missed the target, and that was it. Sunday, 03 September /18 Edition #12 Page 12 of 15

The percentage figure represents either a plus or minus on last season s end of season average at each club. Notes for this season- two teams so far have yet to play a home game this season- so there is no data, namely Lymington Town in the Premier Division and Fawley in the First Division. Unfortunately, United Services have yet to record figures from their three home games. The only club in the Premier Division to show a drop in the average is Bashley, with five clubs in the First also showing a downward step. The biggest being at Potterne Park where relegated Verwood Town has seen the gate drop by 19.74%. On the opposite side, interesting to note that Premier Division newcomers Baffins are well placed in the improved gate figure, no doubt boosted by a higher ranking it will be interesting to see if this trend continues. Perhaps surprisingly, Team Solent- despite a lowly league position have shown the biggest improvement in attendances thus far. This is of course early days, but hopefully this may show an improvement in numbers of people coming to watch our teams and that things pick up as well for those six teams with a deficit. PREMIER DIVISION Bashley v Brockenhurst 260 Cowes Sports v Newport IOW 260 Sholing v Hamble Club 242 Portland United v Team Solent 229 Portland United v Hamworthy United 222 Fareham Town v AFC Portchester 216 FIRST DIVISION Alton v Totton & Eling 152 Hythe & Dibden v Fawley 140 Totton & Eling v United Services Portsmouth 135 HIGH GATES THIS SEASON. Six have topped the two hundred mark in the Premier Division Sunday, 03 September /18 Edition #12 Page 13 of 15

14 W ith Clubs reluctant to play on Bank Holidays there were only three fixtures, all in the Premier Division, compared with full Programmes in all the Leagues around. The noon kick off saw an attendance in excess of two hundred and fifty at Westwood Park for the Island derby between Cowes and Newport, with the points and local bragging rights going to the home side after a two-goal victory. This was the visitors second defeat in three days and in both games they finished with nine men. Over two hundred on a warm afternoon at Cams Alders where in a game largely dominated by the respective defences a goal in each half gave Portchester victory over Fareham. Lastly Bournemouth travelled to Team Solent for the second time in as many weeks bit could not repeat their Senior Cup victory, the eventual goalless draw giving the home side their first point of the season. Barring the three games already mentioned there was a virtually full programme on Tuesday in both Divisions though the Premier Division meeting of Bemerton Heath and Shaftesbury was postponed with the home Club unable to raise a side. Blackfield beat Bashley by the odd goal in three to take top spot after Baffins Milton Rovers went down five one at home to Horndean, two goals apiece for Harry Jackson and Miles Everett, and Sholing came from behind to beat Hamble Club and remain in the mix. Meanwhile Hamworthy remain level on points with the three clubs just mentioned after a two-goal win at Portland in front of an attendance of more than two hundred. Andover Town maintained their one hundred per cent record courtesy of two Mike Gosney goals against Amesbury while another two-goal hero was Sam House with both of Lymington s goals in their victory over Brockenhurst at the newly christened Meadens Skoda Arena in front of another decent attendance. In the final game in the Division, Petersfield, after a couple of encouraging results, slipped back with a seven nil defeat at the hands of Alresford at Love Lane. There were hat tricks for Steve Hall and Tom Sands for the visitors whilst Petersfield have now conceded thirty five goals in seven League matches. In Division one leaders Laverstock and Ford went down for the first time this season, two nil at Downton (with a three-figure attendance) allowing Tadley to take over top spot after a five-goal victory over Whitchurch. Paul Coventry scored twice for the winners in a game that was not as one sided as the score suggests. Romsey moved into second place when they halted Andover New Street s early season progress with a four two victory at the By Pass ground, while US Portsmouth claimed third place after defeating East Cowes Vics by four goals to one. Stoneham and Follands shared four goals and the points but last season s relegated sides are still struggling. Verwood went down two nil at Totton and Eling, who are proving difficult to beat on their own ground, while a stoppage time penalty from Steve Green at Hythe and Dibden gave Fawley their first point of the season. Two games on Wednesday with victories for Christchurch and Ringwood. The Dorset side moved to within two points of the leaders with a three-goal win over New Milton while Ringwood, with River Smith scoring twice, proved too strong for Weymouth Reserves at the Wessex Stadium. A disappointing day in the FA Cup with only one success in the four ties involving our Clubs. All credit and congratulations to AFC Portchester who defeated Southern League Dorchester Town courtesy of a late Rob Evans goal and will be the only Sydenhams side in Monday s draw. Horndean conceded two first half goals to Bodmin Town and could not come back after the break whilst Hamworthy Sunday, 03 September /18 Edition #12 Page 14 of 15

15 failed to carry their League form in to the Cup, going down five one at home to Thatcham Town so becoming the third Wessex League victim of the Berkshire Club in the Competition this season. In the final tie Andover scored first against Cadbury Heath and hit the woodwork twice but conceded either side of halftime and will no doubt be rueing missing two late chances. A small consolation for the losers was an attendance in excess of three hundred, a record for an FA Cup tie at the Portway. In the Premier Division Blackfield made it seven wins out of seven with two Jamie White goals giving them victory over Sholing and a four-point lead at the top of the table. Photos courtesy of Ray Routledge Lymington moved in to second place after beating Bournemouth two one at Victoria Park while Baffins made the long haul to Shaftesbury and went down four two with two of the home side s goals coming from the penalty spot. Alresford and Hamble Club shared two goals and the points while Brockenhurst scored three without reply against Newport who have now lost their last three matches. Better fortune for the other Island Club as Cowes beat Amesbury two nil, the Wiltshire Club s sixth loss in seven games. Two sides recorded their first wins of the campaign with Bashley beating the luckless Team Solent and Bemerton overcoming the problems that beset them in midweek to take all three points from Fareham. Finally, plaudits to Petersfield who continued their somewhat up and down season by securing a point at Portland in a two all draw, Tadley maintained their top of the table position in Division One with a four two victory over Weymouth Reserves but they are not short of challengers with four Clubs within two points of the lead, Laverstock and Ford bounced back from their midweek defeat with Robbie Gallagher scoring twice in their three nil win over Fawley who remain pointless at the bottom of the table whilst Andover New Street continued their fine start to the season with a five two victory over Hythe and Dibden with Zach Neve scoring four. So, as we move in to September Blackfield & Langley and Tadley lead the way but AFC Portchester take the credit on the day Jack Satterley scored twice in Christchurch s four one win at Follands and Romsey remain in the hunt after sharing six goals with New Milton at the Bypass ground. Dan Fox claimed two for the home side with Dom Falco notching a second half hat trick for the visitors. Downton followed up their win in midweek with another three points courtesy of a two one win at Stoneham whilst Alton and Totton and Eling fought out a two all draw in front of a crowd in excess of one hundred and fifty at Anstey, Ringwood recorded the lowest attendance of the day but rewarded those who did attend with a fine victory over US Portsmouth and finally Whitchurch claimed their second victory of the season in beating Verwood three one at Longmeadow after the visitors had scored first.
