HRFC / THE NEW CROFT By Football Development Manager, Peter Betts In my last set of notes this season I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone at Haverhill Rovers FC for all their hard work and efforts this season. That thanks extends to not just the fantastic committee and volunteers the club has in place but the managers, coaches, players and parents, as everyone has truly played their part in a real collective effort this season. I think in reflection this season has been a real success for the football club as the club now offers football for all ages and abilities from 3 years to 65 years male and female and has grown dramatically in size due to offering that provision. I want to congratulate individual coaches who have spent a lot of time attending relevant courses and gaining further education to support the development of their players and teams. A big well done goes out to Colin Newall the U8 s WHITE manager who recently passed his FA Level 2 coaching award and to Rhys Shulver having successfully completed his FA Youth Award Module 3 award. The youth set up continues to grow from strength to strength and this has been evident to see with some fantastic football being played across numerous age groups on both the 3G and grass pitches. The senior section has experienced mixed fortunes this season, but one thing is for certain it s moving in the right direction at last, with a sustainable structure in place as well as the new academy being set up with Dan Pilcher and Marc Abbott it s an exciting few years ahead. I would urge you all to keep up to date with events coming up at The New Croft this summer both in terms of football and socially as there are a lot of activities taking place we are sure you and the family will enjoy. Thank you all for your continued support and efforts. Peter Betts SECRETARY NOTES By Club Secretary, Barbara Jones I would like to take this opportunity to thank Peter Betts for all his support he has given me during my first season as Club Secretary. I have learnt a lot about the running of the Club and would never have imagined beforehand how much there is to do behind the scenes. All the committee, staff and volunteers at both Haverhill Rovers and the HCSA are so friendly and have my admiration for their commitment. Barbara Jones Thank you for those of you that have actively collected and donated your ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS to the club. There s very little time now to hand them in, so check if you have any loose lurking about on your kitchen top or sitting in the bottom of your handbag? The club has been collecting them to help raise enough vouchers to obtain more sports equipment for better equiped training sessions. We are able to redeem them from the 2 nd May 2017.

MINI SOCCER Haverhill Rovers Under 6 s Having formed and developed our U6 s from August 2016 we are now coming to end of a very effective training and festival program that the club/ Pete Betts put in place. The team was formed for current school years Reception / Year 1 with a view off making the transition to U7's a much smoother, more comfortable pathway for the early years of their football development. Our program we designed for the players means that they train on a Wednesday every week, a festival once every month, with pre-arranged friendlies set up to give the players a greater understanding in what they will be experiencing on a weekly basis as of Aug/ Sept. Recently, at our 1st team home fixture vs Kirkley & Pakefield FC, our U6s had a 'match day experience' where they were club mascots and got a greater feel of how things work in the senior set. The boys all had a great time and it was fantastic to see the 1st team squad/ management make all off the players feel very welcome...a great day was had by all! Marc Abbott U6 s Recruitment for 2017/18 With our current U6s moving into the bigger surroundings of Colts football as of July 2017, the club will be looking at their next intake of players (next school years Reception / Year 1) for the next intake of U6's. These sessions will be open to anyone looking to take their next steps in a more structured environment. For anyone interested please contact either: Barbara Jones E: barbarajoneshrfc@outlook.com or Marc Abbott E:marc_abbott@ymail.com
MINI SOCCER Haverhill Rovers Under 7 REDs SHOOTING PRACTICE On Sunday, 2nd April 2017 the Haverhill Rovers FC U7 Reds were rewarded for their impressive performances during their first season in the Cambridgeshire Mini Soccer A League where they racked up over 230 goals against the very best teams in the county with some shooting practice of a different kind! Myles, Dominik, Harry, Isaak, Charlie, Harrison & Cameron were joined by their brothers, sisters, parents and coaches for a 2 hour "Unlimited Play" session at Planet Laser in Bury St Edmunds where they participated in a variety of laser tag games before retreating to the nearest McDonalds for lunch! With the promise of creating an environment that is more than just a football team, the Haverhill Rovers FC U7 Reds family are looking forward to the next fun filled activity on their jam packed 2017 events calendar! Haverhill Rovers Under 7 REDs EASTER FESTIVAL FUN On Monday, 17th April 2017 Haverhill Rovers FC U7 Reds hosted the Haverhill Rovers FC Easter U7 Mini Soccer Festival at The New Croft. The "Super Six" of Myles, Dominik, Stanley, Isaak, Charlie & Harrison were joined by another 6 teams from Haverhill Rovers FC and a further 17 teams from Cambridgeshire Mini Soccer League including Cambourne, Saffron Walden, Elsenham, Swavesey Spartans, Mepal Sports, Isleham and loads more and split into 4 groups of 6 teams to play 60 games across 8 pitches! The smiles on the faces of the 200+ children that took part confirm that the event was a massive success and every effort will be made to replicate a similar event at some point over the Summer! As for the U7 Reds themselves...they played 5, won 5, scored 12 goals and played some fantastic football to ensure that the morning was a memorable one!
MINI SOCCER Haverhill Rovers Under 7 REDs FOLLOWING IN THE FIRST TEAM S FOOTSTEPS On Saturday, 22nd April 2017 the Haverhill Rovers FC U7 Reds not only put in an impressive performance against Gamlingay FC U7's in their final game of the 2016/17 season in the morning, but then represented the club as first team mascots for their final home game of the season against high flying Gorleston FC that afternoon! Myles, Dominik, Stanley (bravely joining his buddies after breaking his wrist the day before), Isaak, Charlie, Harrison & Cameron joined club captain Sam Holmes and his teammates for a series of warm up exercises before lining up side by side for the family members in attendance to take photographs to document a day to remember! Mark Rogers & Ollie Carter Haverhill Rovers Under 7 WHITES Under 7 whites had a fun game against themselves with the help of a few lads from other teams. A big thank you to Kai,Toby and Rowan, also well done to Joel Welsh who played his first game after only a few weeks of training. Even some of the brothers got involved, Kai's older brother helped and played in goal for both sides and pulled off some fine saves but it was the younger brothers of Jacob Catten and Billy Shinn who stole show! On their debuts, Harrison Catten was already telling his teammates and the other team to pass the ball to him which they all did!!! As he likes to be heard, with only seconds to go and the score at 7-8 Tommy Shinn found himself in the box with the ball at his feet and hit a low drive into the back of the net to make the score 8-8!!!
MINI SOCCER All the lads had a great time and even wanted a photo at the end. But see if you can spot Ollie Jones!!! Lastly, I'd like to thank all the other Under7 s teams for some great games this year, all the parents for their continued help and support and most definitely the lads for their hard work over the whole season. Keep improving boys and you might get as good as us dad's!! James Catten Haverhill Rovers Under 8 WHITES We are coming to a close to the season, and at the time of writing we have two league games left taking us to the end of April and an end of season League Festival. We have entered a couple of festivals for May and June and need to start practicing for the new 7 v 7 format for next season. The team have all worked hard through the year and we have developed well and the 7 v 7 format next season will be the next transition. As well as the team developing, I have also completed the new FA Level 2 Coaching Course and will hopefully have passed by the time this goes to press. Thanks to some fundraising, parental contributions and our sponsors, we are visiting St Georges Park in May for a Football Experience which includes a 90 minutes coaching session, use of the elite changing rooms and a tour of St Georges Park, which should be a great experience and something I m actually quite excited about. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents for their dedication through the year in getting the boys to training and games whilst braving the weather and for their continued support, along with the Club and our sponsors The Radford Group. Thanks Colin Newall
MINI SOCCER Haverhill Rovers Under 8 BLUES Under 8 Blues enjoyed a trip to Wembley stadium for a tour around the home of football. As we travelled down the team we're in good spirits looking forward to the day ahead, a quick refuel at McDonald's and we all safely got onto the train headed into London. We had to change trains at Liverpool St where our goalkeeper Jake decided it would be a good time to practice his goal kicking where he launched his trainer across the platform and onto the track, having to be at Wembley for 11am shoeless Jake had to make do with a piggy back until we could find a shop to buy some new trainers We all arrived at Wembley and the whole team including adults enjoyed the tour which ended in everyone getting their hands on the FA Cup. We left after a brilliant tour thanks to our superb guide and headed for a local restaurant for a much-needed beer for the adults and some food for the team. The journey home was less eventful with no trainers being lost! The whole team were perfectly behaved and a great credit to the club Sean Moody STOP PRESS: Congratulations to Ricky Dacey and his team on reaching The Under 10 League Cup Final. Match to be played at Soham Town Rangers FC on Saturday, 13 May 2017, We wish them success. ELSENHAM YOUTH BLACK V. HAVERHILL ROVERS WHITE
HAVERHILL ROVERS F C ACADEMY THE CLUB S ACADEMY PROGRAMME IS LAUNCHING IN SEPTEMBER 2017 Football and Education at Haverhill Rovers F.C. If you would like to find out more or have any queries, please contact either: Aimed at year olds Achieve a BTEC Level 2/3 qualification in Sport Study and play football full time University Pathways Become a football coach or work in the sports industry Haverhill Rovers F.C. Academy is launching in September It is a unique opportunity in the Haverhill area for players aged 16 and over to study a sports diploma, re-sit GCSEs and gain vocational sports qualifications, such as Level 1 in Coaching Football. Whilst playing football most days of the week, as part of the club s academy team, the programme also offers students the chance of going to university or finding a job in sport. BARBARA JONES barbarajoneshrfc@outlook.com OR Phone DAN PILCHER: (Mob) Academy Player Identification Sessions April 2017 During the Easter Holidays the long-awaited Academy player I.D. sessions were over. The aim of these sessions was for any potential candidates to not only play in a trial session but to come and visit the facilities and discuss what the programme has to offer? On arrival, all players and parents were taken for a tour of all that Haverhill Rovers Academy has to offer. Firstly, players were shown the weights and conditioning room. This can be used by all successful candidates during the season for strength training or rehabilitation. Secondly, the class room that will house all main lectures and college work to achieve the BTEC Level 3 in Sport. Finally, it was on to the pristine surface at the 3G Astro for the trial session. During these sessions players were put through their paces in game based practices designed to test them both technically and physically. Intensity and effort was high and for over an hour all players continued to impress the Academy s coaches. Although both sessions were well attended the recruitment process is still on-going. Academy Director Dan Pilcher is determined to find the best possible candidates to make up the Academy programme and will be continuing his search for players in and around the area. With this in mind, further open trial sessions will continue throughout the summer and will be held at the club. Please visit social media below and the club s website for updates.

FROM THE BENCH By First Team Manager, Ben Cowling Writing these notes, we are just preparing to enter the last week of the season with 3 fixtures left to play, we are still in need of a point to make mathematically sure of retaining our status in the Premier Division next season and must make sure that we achieve a positive end to the current campaign. It has been a very eventful season, one that started so well and promised a lot ultimately disappointed and ended with us looking over our shoulder a little after what can only be described as a poor 3 months of results over the Winter period. Positively we have exposed over a dozen players, that essentially made up the first team squad, to a higher level of football than they had ever played either regularly or at all in most cases and the experience gained from this will be invaluable going into next season. We have also got a structured back-room team and some excellent coaching with sessions that are very well attended. We have also reached the Semi-Final of the League Challenge Cup, falling at that stage to the League Champions Mildenhall Town having beaten 3 Premier Division sides along the way. We have played some terrific football at times this season and had some wonderful crowds through the gates to support us which is appreciated by all those there on a matchday. One last aspect that we should be proud of is the amount of opportunities given to local players this season, our last home match saw 13 of the 14 players that featured all living in Haverhill or the surrounding villages, indeed of all the players that have featured in match day squads this year around 85% fit into that category. However, the ambition of myself and the belief of the management group in the players we have means that next season we must do better in the League and the FA Competitions, this club should be having good cup runs and positive league finishes and we are laying the plans for improvement next season and beyond as we speak. Whilst it has been at times a challenging year it has also bought a lot of pleasure to me and I am very glad I accepted the position offered to me, it certainly eclipses anything I have done in football before and I remain very proud and honored to be manager of the First Team. The club is built around volunteers, and we can only function with each other s help as everyone has an interconnected role to play. Not everything runs perfectly all the time but for a club with 44 teams the professionalism I see around the club from the Mini-Kickers and the U7s starting out, through to the Colts, EJA and Senior set-up is incredible. There is fantastic drive and ambition to create the best opportunities for the boys and girls of this town to pull on the Red Jersey that will ultimately lead this club to be successful in its senior set-up and it is a joy to see. To wrap up these notes I must thank everyone from the players, to the supporters, to the volunteers and everyone along the way that makes this club happen, without you we are nothing. The new season is just around the corner and I can t wait to go again!... Ben Cowling A VIEW FROM THE STAND The Fans Voice don t be afraid to express your opinions What a strange season we have just witnessed. After a good start where we enjoyed the dizzy heights of top 6 for several weeks with a tight defence and good midfield and striking options we suffered a setback where our administration was called into question over the registration of new signing Mason Newman whereby he was alleged by Thurlow Nunn to have not been eligible to play in the away fixture at Wivenhoe Town. To this day we have refuted this charge but after pursuing an appeal with the FA and presenting our case at Wembley we were unfortunately found guilty on a technicality and were punished by a deduction of the three points gained in our 2-1 victory and the stats expunged, we were also ordered to replay the game incurring the expenses for the officials etc - We felt this hearing was very unfair and affected our form from that point onwards and then found ourselves in a relegation battle and have gone to the wire with all the mathematical computations that faced us. On a more positive front we have made a few shrewd signings to bolster our strike force after the departure of Danny Hill and the infamous Mason Newman and we welcomed Rafa (Forest Gump) Wozniak, Jordan Palmer x2, Adam Sartini and Justin Leavers all of whom have settled in well and contributed to our uphill cause.
A VIEW FROM THE STAND Cont d.. I'm sure Ben has had a few sleepless nights over the final months but has got us over the line with the team spirit of the whole squad who in all honesty have done a sterling job to keep us in the top flight. Most of us in the stand feel that we have good foundations in place for next season, however we must finish teams off from 2-0 leads, as this term, we have led the game by this score on six occasions and gone on to lose or draw the match which is effectively a loss of 14 points in total. Finally, I would however like to declare my colours and give a massive vote to my player of the season Charlie Turner - top bloke and great keeper. Have a good Summer Nutmeg THE RESULTS SEASON 2016/17
