I have to go down to the attendance office for a few minutes, Mrs. Stanford announced to the class. I want everyone to read pages 89 through 92 while I m gone. As soon as their teacher disappeared, Bobby and Stan made a dash for the teacher s desk. They started playing with an object made of strings and silver balls, which clacked together in a swinging motion. It was fun to watch. Soon the desk was surrounded with almost the whole class-until one of the silver balls broke loose from the string that held it and rolled across the floor. Immediately, the students returned to their seats. Mrs. Stanford returned to the room and noticed the damage. She began asking the students what had happened. The first girl lied; she said she didn t know. The second student said the same thing. Then the teacher Administrative News Detention Schedule: For the week of Jan. 7 detention will be held with Mrs. Massey in Room 8. Detention is held once per week on Wednesdays. Why does the Bible say it s wrong? Because God said not to lie. Why did God say not to lie? I don t know, Amy admitted. Because God is truth, honey. God never lies. Whatever is like him is Regarding Snow Day Announcements: A weather-related cancellation or delay will be announced on local TV and radio stations. Our plan this year is to follow Midland Public Schools lead and close school when they do in the case of snow or ice. We MAY NOT close if it s just a COLD DAY since we have very few children who wait outside for a bus. We will be listed separately as well, but for the most part, if Midland is closed, St. John s will be too. J A N U A R Y 3, right, and whatever is not like him is wrong. Lying is not like God. That s why lying is wrong. Amy nodded and crunched into her ice-cream cone. It was hard for you to tell the truth in class today, wasn t it? Mom asked. Amy nodded. Yeah, because I was the only one who did! But you did the right thing, because you told the truth. Amy popped the rest of the icecream cone into her mouth. And that was right because it was like God, she said proudly. Right! Mom said. Right! Amy echoed. TO PRAY: Lord God, you have made us pure and holy by your words of truth. May our actions reflect your holiness and truth.

Chapel Offerings Each January, Lutheran Hour Ministries hosts an online mission trip, where students learn about the customs and culture of another country. In 2019, the program is being renamed Mr. Koschmann s News Thanks for all the great gifts. I ve already used many of the gift certificates and enjoyed the food. Science Fun Night will be March 7 th. Keep working on the Science Fair projects, and if you need any help, please ask. Gospel Adventure and the mission field is Peru. During Lutheran Schools Week in late January, students will have the opportunity to explore the unique culture of Peru and see how the Gospel is shared in this country. Seeing God work through His people around the world can inspire us to trust Him to do more in our lives. Our school's January chapel offerings will go to Lutheran Hour Ministries to help spread the Gospel to children around the world! School Prayer Team We would like to extend an invitation to all caregivers, parents and school junkies to join us at 7:45 each Wednesday morning in the lunch room to pray over the school, staff and families of SJL. 6 St. John s Inducted into Million Pop Tab Club PHOTOS January 3, 2019 Every year St. John s Lutheran Church and School members remove the aluminum tabs from their cans of pop and other items and bring them into the building to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House is a home-away-from-home for ill children receiving treatment at area hospitals and clinics and their families. The first House was opened in Philadelphia, PA. There are over 300 Houses worldwide in 32 countries providing over 30,000 sleeping rooms every night for families in crisis. The pop tab recycling program raises nearly $5,000 annually for the House. Thanks to Pastor and Marguerite Janetzke transporting our tabs to Lansing a few times each year, St. John s has been inducted into the Million Pop Tab Club! Wow! That means we have collected and submitted more than 1,000,000 pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you all for contributing to this worthy cause!
