1 St. Joseph School Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow A National Blue Ribbon School December 13, Making Christ at Home in Our Hearts Catholic Identity During this second week of Advent, we light the second purple candle on the Advent wreath. We focus on the word HOPE. This week remember that God keeps his promises in ways more glorious than we can imagine. Thank you to the St. Joseph families who donated money to Luke Smith s Presents to Patients. We collected $450 to give Luke to purchase presents for children at Children s Hospital. She will be competing in Cynthiana on Saturday, January 13, 2018 for the Kentucky East District Hoop Shoot. Cafeteria Volunteer Help Needed The cafeteria is in need of volunteers to work in the cafeteria for the month of December. Please take a few minutes to check your schedule and sign up at a46-cafeteria1. If you are unable to make a day you have signed up for, please do your best to find a replacement as we do count on someone being there. Also, contact Amy Borchers to let her know at as soon as possible Registration This is a reminder that the Registration/Book Fees for the school year will be due February 1, This year the fees due for each student will be $270. This is a change from previous years to avoid confusion. Fees were previously paid in 2 equal installments of $135. PTO News The PTO is happy to announce that Karin Geraci has volunteered to serve as President-Elect of the PTO. Welcome, Karin! The next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 20 at 7 pm in the Library. The PTO is hosting a fundraising event to commemorate SJS's Blue Ribbon Award. Please see the attached flyer for more details. A Night to Remember Starring our Leading Men and their Little Ladies Mark your calendars and clear your iphone storage for A Night to Remember Starring our Leading Men and their Little Ladies. All ladies in preschool through 8 th grade and their leading man are invited to attend. A flyer for registration will be sent home soon. The committee will gladly reach out to any potential donor we re only asking for your suggestions of who you think may be willing to support all of the great things happening here at St Joseph School. Parish News First Reconciliation: First Reconciliation takes place tonight at 7:00 p.m. Students should be in church by 6:45 pm so that we may start on time. Students should wear typical church attire. Confirmation The final service project reflection is due on Monday, December 18. Virtus December is an Open Month in Virtus December is an open month in Virtus to allow those the opportunity to read and update any unread bulletins. The December bulletin went out on Sunday, December 3, 2017 and will be due on Tuesday, January 2, To get to the training bulletins go to enter your user id and password. The training bulletins can be accessed under the Training Tab. If you do not have a Training Tab please contact the location where you volunteer or are employed. If you are up to date with your monthly training please disregard this notice. SJSAAA SJSAAA Positions Needed to be Filled Virtus Trained Volunteers are needed to fill two positions that will be open next school year: Girls Volleyball Tournament Coordinator - Someone is needed to manage the volleyball tournament during September. Preliminary work will need to be completed in August. The coordinator would work with Heather Jansen for the first transition year and then assume responsibility for the future. The responsibilities include contacting schools to sign up, drafting the brackets, updating the programs for the tournament and scheduling workers/referees/volunteers, etc. If you are interested please contact Heather Jansen at bjansen@fuse.net. Concessions Coordinator - Someone is needed to stock the concession stand for all volleyball/basketball tournaments and league games throughout the school year. This also includes scheduling door and concession workers for the league games for both sports. Maria Schaeffer currently handles the responsibility and is available to shadow for the balance of this school year. If you are interested, please contact Maria Schaeffer at mariasch124@fuse.net. NDA News Calling all future Pandas! The Notre Dame Academy Basketball Pandas cordially invite you to join them for their annual NDA Basketball Grade School Night on Friday, December 15, The NDA JV Pandas will take on the Dayton Green Devils at 6:00 p.m. and the Varsity Pandas' game will begin at 7:00 p.m. All grade school students will receive free admission and be invited to stay after the game for a Panda Meet and Greet! The flyer with the Free Admission Pass is attached to this newsletter. 6 SJS PTO Color Me Mine Tile Wall Event Calling all St Joe families! As most of you know, St Joe s was awarded the prestigious Blue Ribbon School of Excellence this year and we would like to celebrate and commemorate this achievement with the creation of a second tile wall, to be installed across from the current tile wall located in the hallway off the main lobby. Save the date for Sunday, January 28, 2018, when the PTO will kick off Catholic Schools Week with this family FUNdraiser. The tile event will be held in Noll Hall from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Each family will design/paint their own 6 x 6 ceramic tile. Families can order one or more tiles to paint. Color Me Mine will take the tiles to glaze and fire and the finished tiles will be installed by SJS. The cost is $40 per tile. All money raised for this event will go towards the purchase of teachers wish list of supplies for their classrooms. To sign up for this event, please complete the attached order form and submit it to the office, ATTN: Amy Roesel, by January 8, Also attached is a template form. It is recommended that you design your tile at home, draw it exactly as you want it in the square and bring the drawing with you to the event. On the day of the event Color Me Mine will provide a paper that you can use to trace your design on the tile. So get your creativity flowing and start designing your tile! There will be transfer paper at the painting event that will allow you to trace the lines on your tile and fill in your design with paint. If you wish to use words, you can print them out in a word processing program and trace them on for painting. Keep in mind that you will painting with a paint brush.
