Director s Notes Time to Get your Geek On! Everyone has something they are passionate about - something they geek. Maybe you geek football or hip hop. Maybe you are passionate about organic gardening, classic movies or volunteering. Whatever you geek, serious or fun, the Noble County Public Library supports you. Beginning the week of National Library Week, April 8-14, and continuing through December, NCPL is participating in Geek the Library, a community-based public awareness campaign. The campaign highlights what people are passionate about and how libraries can support them, in an effort to heighten awareness about the critical funding issues public libraries face. Geek the Library will feature local educational material introducing geek as a verb, encouraging the public to talk about what they geek - whether it s engineering, superheroes or art. NCPL has already initiated a bookmark contest throughout many of the county s schools, and much more is planned Fans of all ages celebrated the recent birthday of Dr. Seuss at their local libraries and the Noble County Public libraries were no exception. During the After School Special, NCPL East s Children s Librarian Ruth Guthrie read some of Seuss s most beloved books while the audience snacked on green eggs and ham, made Cat in the Hat cookies and crafted Horton Hears a Who pencils. throughout the rest of The campaign features advertising, social networking elements, a web site and grassroots community initiatives to draw attention to the need for increased library support. The web site, geekthelibrary.org provides information about how people can get active and support their local library. While most people have visited their public library and understand its important role in their community, many do not know that libraries are at risk or that local funding for libraries is heavily influenced by YOU - community members. So check out the website, watch the local papers and library newsletter, and keep an eye on activities and contests going on in each branch of NCPL and Get Your Geek On! Sandy
