The Pep Rally 4th period on Friday 10/12. The Homecoming game festivities are at the Soccer game at Walter Bickett Stadium on Friday 10/12. The homecoming dance is on Saturday, 10/13 from 8 to 11 PM in the gym. Tickets are $15 for one and $25 for two if you buy before Saturday. All tickets are $15 at the door. Students can buy online until noon on Friday, at lunch on Friday, or at the door on Saturday. Non CATA guests must have prior approval by 10/11 today. Friday is Class Color Wars Day, Seniors wear black, Juniors wear white, Sophomores wear navy, and Freshmen wear Maroon. Invest in Excellence Campaign: Our annual PTSO campaign to enhance our school will ended last Friday. We will place the final total in next week s newsletter. You can still give online by clicking here. We would like to thank all who gave to this record breaking campaign that will enhance our school. Attention Seniors: If a senior is interested in painting their parking spot then click here for an application packet. Click here to pay. Please read the entire packet and take immediate action. No student is allowed to paint until their application is approve and the $25 fee is paid. Painting days are on Saturday 10/13 and 10/20 from 8 AM to 2. Underclassmen absentee photo make ups are on Monday, 10/15 in the media center. Students who did not get their picture taken in September will need to come to The Den (Media Center) during first block for pictures. Bring your order form and money with you if you wish to purchase photos. Students who had their picture taken but did not purchase a package may have their picture retaken if they bring in an order form. If you already had your picture taken but need a retake due to an error, you must bring your picture package with you when you come to The Den. FAFSA NIGHT will be on Monday, 10/15 at 6:30 pm. SENIOR Parents and Students PLEASE come out to learn about how to find the MOST money possible for your College Experience!!! College Application Week is October 15 to 19. Please see information in this edition. The PreACT is for ALL 10th grade students and will be given on Friday, 10/26 during 1st and 2nd block. Please make sure you have a calculator for the math section!! See you assigned counselor for any questions. The International Thespian Society would like you to join us for an evening of dancing, singing and all things performing at Decades Night on 10/19 at 6 pm in the theatre. Please see Ms. Casey if you are interested in performing. Tickets to see the show will cost $2. CATA Spirit Wear The Spirit wear booth is restocked with all sizes and new merchandise. Math Tutoring- We have extra math tutoring every Monday in room 519 from 3:30 to 4:30, S Yearbooks and Senior Tributes SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS! Just a reminder that pictures and money are due to Ms. Christensen by October 31st for your senior tribute page for the yearbook. If your senior pictures will not be taken until after that date then make sure you communicate that with her. Space will not be available after October 31st. Don't miss out. Union County College Fair: The CACRAO is hosting a college fair for Union County students on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Wingate University, McGee Center. See a list of colleges attending in this edition. Please take time to read over this newsletter. These newsletters will begin on a weekly basis once the school year starts so that the whole CATA community can read about the great things our children and teachers are doing. In order to best prepare all juniors will work on ACT preparation during Cougar Time two times per week. Juniors: The Governor's School of NC is the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented High School students in the Nation. The program is open to current Juniors with exceptions made for current Sophomore's in selected performing and visual arts. CATA Guidance Department A high school guidance department can help your student with a LOT during high school counseling during a problem/or stress, college planning, career/college questions, interview skills, problem solving with classes/teachers, friendship/social issues. Counselors also help with scheduling and what courses to take. Counselors are available to answer parent questions as well. Newly Formed Canine Club Takes Paws to help! On Thursday October 4th the Canine Club had two very special visitors from the Union County Sheriff s Department as guest speakers. Deputy Summey and his patrol canine, Darko, came to the meeting to talk to students about training dogs to work with the Sheriff s Department and how canine vests can be used to help protect the dogs. Deputy Summey answered questions from club members before bringing in Darko and allowing students to interact with him. Deputy Summey s and Darko s visit came as the Canine Club is organizing a fundraiser for later this semester to raise money to help the Sheriff s Department purchase vests for their canines. Meeting Deputy Summey and Darko helped inspire club members to come up with ideas for the fundraiser and the Club is very grateful they were able to make time to visit Central Academy.

Make checks payable to CATA. Order online at and search for CATA to link to our school. Senior Tributes SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS! Know that if you write a long message that you may have to eliminate one or more photos. The yearbook staff will work with you to design the best tribute to recognize your senior. You can order senior tributes online as well using the URL above. If you don't see the option to order a tribute/ad, turn off any pop up blockers you might have on your browser and reload the page. All photos need to be received at CATA by October 31st. You can either send digital copies of photos or bring in print copies that we will scan for you. The highest resolution of digital file possible is best so we have options for resizing, etc. A dot per inch (dpi) number of 600 is good. Most home printer/scanners will allow you to adjust the default scanning resolution. The main photo must be from the current year and feature the student alone. 11 Central Academy of Technology and Arts 11 Student Parking Passes ALL past due student fees must be paid before you are permitted to purchase a parking pass this includes the , , AND technology fee, media center fees, cafeteria, and any fees owed to CATA. ALL Students, MUST print and bring ALL required documents with you along with the cash (exact amount) or check for $40 made payable to Central Academy of Technology & Arts. Any incomplete application packets will delay the process and you cannot reserve your parking spot until all documents and check are turned in. Please make sure to have your parent sign the registration forms. They are available on the CATA website under Students. Click here for the link. Students may choose their parking spot number if they purchase BEFORE the first day of school. After that we will sell remaining spots in order. If you pay with cash, you MUST have exact change. Parking passes are not guaranteed available throughout the school year. Once we sell out we will start a waiting list. Students obtaining their license during the school year are not guaranteed a spot, and may have to wait until the following year to drive. We will have a waitlist for those students bringing in all appropriate documentation. We have 18 spaces left. The Student Section at CATA is the. BLUE CREW Cougar Athletic Pass (For Parents and Students) The Athletic Department is selling athletic passes for all CATA regular season home games for Fall, Winter and Spring seasons. The cost is $50 for the year. This is a deal! Attending ten athletic events a year pays for the pass. You can purchase in person at home JV Football games, home Volleyball matches, home Men's Soccer matches, or online by clicking here. Purchase the Blue Crew Shirt by clicking here for our online link. Shirts cost $12 and are sold online, at home athletic events, and during lunches.
