Tired of all of the extra pieces of mail you receive on a daily basis? Please watch your mail for a special newsletter, more changes coming in February/ March If you have any questions, please contact the LEEP Office at or us at info@mankatoleep.org Membership Kick-Off Dance Starting the year off right, LEEP is offering a dance to help kick-off the 2013 membership drive! New this year, if you pay your 2013 Membership by December 31, 2012, LEEP will be giving a FREE T-Shirts to participants that attend the dance. (t-shirts will only be available the night of the dance) Participants that do not pay their membership by December 31 are still able to enjoy the dance. Sodas/water will be sold for $1 each. 2 LEEP League Bowling NEW this year!!! Get ready for some more strikes, good friends and fun memories, because we are starting our LEEP League Bowling program. This league offers all of the fun and relaxation of our fall program without the weekend tournaments. *Registration fee includes bowling, shoe rental, bowling balls & LEEP League T-Shirt* Day: Wednesdays, January 16-March 6, 2013 Time: 4:30-5:50 p.m. Limit: 56 Place: Dutler s Bowl on Highway 169 Cost: Without Transportation $55 One-way Transportation $75 Round Trip Transportation $95 We have 3 Options Available: Please note transportation when registering. (Pick up for bowling will be at MRCI at 4:00 pm and Cherry Street Bus Stop at 4:10 pm only) (Drop off for Mankato residents only will be at their individual homes) * If a ramp or special equipment is needed, please inform us at time of registration. LEEP is unable to provide bowlers with one-to-one assistance during practices however we do offer lane support. If you or your athlete requires individual assistance, you are required to have a guardian/staff stay to assist during bowling Winter Schedule Every athlete must have a current Release Form on file before Participating in a sport. These forms require a doctor s signature and could take time to complete, so if you are in question as to whether you have this form completed, please call LEEP at and we can verify it for you. This form must be updated every three years. All athletes must be a member of LEEP before participating in any LEEP activities. After the athletes have registered for their sports, LEEP will mail out specific information regarding practice times, tournament dates, what to wear, etc. is available for anyone over the age of 8 years. LEEP will attempt to place younger athletes together. SPECIAL OLYMPIC AQUATICS (Swimming) Aquatics offer competitions for the beginner to the advanced swimmers. All athletes will have the opportunity to attend the Area 9 Competition and compete in their desired events. A portion of the athletes will then be chosen to attend the State Competition held in the Twin Cities area (not all athletes will attend State). Day: Wednesdays, January 9-March 24, 2013 Location: East High School Pool (2600 Hoffman Road) Time: 6:30-7:30 pm (Schedules will be mailed out prior to season starting) Cost: $35 without transportation $60 one-way transportation $85 two-way transportation Limit: 25 athletes SPECIAL OLYMPIC BASKETBALL (Full-Court and Half-Court) LEEP offers three different options for Basketball to help meet the needs of our athletes. We have full-court teams and half-court teams... The full-court teams are more competitive than the half-court teams. If you would like to request a specific team please do so when registering, however we cannot guarantee you will be placed on the team that you request. LEEP places athletes on teams based on skill level. 3 Classes Monday- Dance Party Come to LEEP and join us for a great time of dancing, exercising and having fun. Add some new dance moves to your collection and get fit at the same time! We will dance, sweat and enjoy time with friends. Make sure you wear clothes you can move freely in and some comfortable shoes. Come check out our new Wii Zumba game too, it adds a whole new fun! We will be going to three different restaurants and sampling some delicious appetizers; a good snack before supper. Come meet some new people and bring your friends; it will be a great time! *Price includes sampling of appetizers* Dates: Tuesday, January, 15, 22, 29 Location: See Calendar Time: 4:30-5:30 pm Cost: $35 No Transportation $45 1-Way Transportation $55 2-Way Transportation Thursday- Table Tennis (Ping Pong) Table Tennis (Ping Pong) is a great game! Join LEEP as we learn to play this fun game. We will start the class off learning the basics of the game. Each week we will practice and learn new skills. Can t wait to see how everyone improves. Bring your friends to play with; we will be playing both singles and doubles; so you can play with or against your friends. All of you loved all the recipes you made at our last class; join us for a whole new bunch of recipes! We will be making at least six new recipes, maybe more if we have time. Learn how easy, fast and fun all these recipes are; great snacks to share with friends and family! Want to learn how to snowboard? Join LEEP as we head out to Mount Kato and learn how to Snowboard! Grab your warm clothes and meet us on the hill! It will be a great time with a small group of us learning all about snowboarding. This is a great class for beginners all the way through advanced. Space is limited! Cost: $5.00 Tuesday, January 22: Join us at LEEP as we enjoy a delicious Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato Soup for lunch. After lunch we will play some great games with friends. Cost: $5.00 Monday, January 28: Coffee Club! Head over to McDonald s (Madison Ave) for a great treat and a fun afternoon of board games. Cost: $4.00 Tuesday, January 29: Bring your lunch to LEEP to enjoy. Once we are done eating we will do a fun winter craft. Cost: $4.00 LEEP s Day Program focuses on weekly social activities geared toward Retiring/retirement-aged participants. The group meets Monday s from 1:30-2:30pm Tuesday s from 11:30am-12:30pm Three Options Available

4 Cold Weather Reminder LEEP is not responsible for supervision of participants before or after designated program start and end times. Because of this LEEP would like to remind guardians and staff that with winter weather fast approaching, it is their responsibility to ALWAYS check participants in with LEEP Staff. We want to provide a safe environment for all participants who attend LEEP events. If bad weather, please call and listen to the recorded message to know if our program has been cancelled. 5 Still Time Register for a Spring Break Getaway! Arizona Dude Ranch MARCH 11-15, 2013 (5 days, 4 nights) Double Occupancy: $1,925 Welcome to the old West! Join us for this amazing trip to an authentic horse ranch where we will be living like cowboys. Each day we will ride our own horse onto beautiful scenic trails with views of the desert and three mountain ranges. This vacation will take place at a private ranch that is great or relaxing and has a pool/hot tub, campfires at night, line dancing and much more. We will take a day trip to Oatman, an old gold mining town where they re-enact gunfights and comes complete with wild burros that roam the streets. This trip is for both the novice and/or more experienced horseback riders and the ranch is completely accessible (the only one of its kind in the world). Our group will fly into Las Vegas and then drive by shuttle to the ranch. We will drive over the Hoover Dam and stop for a quick tour of this amazing man-made structure. We will start out by eating some delicious pizza for lunch. Then we will get to show off our skills at bowling two games. After bowling, we will test our luck at the indoor miniature golf course; with any remaining time we will enjoy the games in the arcade. Please note we will be meeting at the main entrance of the Wow!Zone. * Price includes: Lunch, Bowling, Mini Golf, & Arcade Games* Meet at Wow!Zone: 11:00 am Drop-off at Home: 4:00-4:30 pm Cost: $40.00 Limit: 10 Due to participant limit, LEEP will accept registrations on a first come first serve basis. Check out vintage advertising, answer SPAM trivia, try your hand at canning SPAM products, stock up on collectible SPAM memorabilia, and learn about all the SPAM products, even the hard-to-find varieties. Before we explore the SPAM museum we will be enjoying the Brunch Buffet at The Willows near New Richland. Luke is originally from LeCenter, Minnesota and moved to the Mankato area two years ago. He has been involved in LEEP for as long as he has lived in Mankato. His favorite program at LEEP is -Bowling, Basketball, and Athletics (Track & Field). Luke also enjoys participating in Fall Elegance, Summer Rec and the Dances. When Luke isn t involved in LEEP activities, he likes to listen to music, dance and play sports. When asked to describe himself in three words Luke said he is, friendly, nice and smart. He also mentions if he were ever lucky enough to win a million dollars he would hire a butler and a personal chef as well purchase a Delorean (The car from Back to the Future).
