TJ and Autumn Spence, Crossfit Coaches and business owners, have generously offered to host LEEP s first ever Powerlifting League! They are allowing LEEP Athletes to use their space, equipment, and talent, which allows individuals with disabilities to access this program at a very low cost. LEEP s Powerlifting League will help athletes with disabilities build strength and confidence, setting the foundation for a healthy life. 2 Special Olympics Information Every athlete must have a current Special Olympics Application for Participation Form on file before participating in a sport. These forms require a doctor s signature and could take time to complete. If you are in question as to whether you have this form completed, please call LEEP at and we can verify it for you. This form must be updated every three years, if it is not up to date it will inhibit participation in sport. All athletes must be a paid LEEP Member before participating in any LEEP activities. After the athletes have registered for their sports, LEEP will mail out specific information regarding practice times, tournament dates, what to wear, etc. Special Olympics is available for anyone over the age of 8 years old. LEEP will attempt to place younger athletes together. Paperwork: Special Olympics Physical Very Important! Make sure to check your paperwork to participate in Special Olympics. o Is your medical form up to date? If you have a doctors appointment coming up, bring the form with you to get it signed by your doctor and make sure it s up to date! We have 3 Options Available: Website: Phone: info@mankatoleep.org Take me out to the ball game! Who s ready for a summer full of eating sunflower seeds and sunshine?! Slow-pitch Softball is an exciting team sport we offer during the summer. Athletes play softball, which involves 3 teams of up to 16 players to compete. Athletes are grouped together according to ability level. Days: Wednesdays, June 29 August 21, 2016 Time: 4:30-5:30pm Limit: 48 Athletes Location: Jaycee Fields (147 Jaycee Ct, Mankato, MN 56001) Equipment: LEEP does have a very limited amount of equipment that athletes can borrow. However, all athletes should bring their own softball glove. Cost: $200 for entire season (includes: all practice, Area, Regional and State Tournament fees) Practice transportation not included. Practice Transportation Cost: $25 1-way Home Transportation ***ONLY DROP-OFF*** Participants have 2 payment options: 1 payment due June 29, payments o 1 st payment: $90 due June 29, nd payment: $60 due July 2, rd payment: $50 due August 17, 2016 Payment is not due until the first day of practice! Tournament Information: Area= Saturday, July 16, 2016 Regional= Saturday, July 30, 2016 State= Friday, August 19- Sunday, August 21, 2016 Special Olympics Golf Special Olympics Golf offers competition for the beginner to the advanced golfers. Golf practices incorporate skill development such as learning which clubs to use, how to keep score, golf etiquette and more. Athletes will also practice individual strokes using clubs such as putters, irons, and woods. *LEEP does not attend the State Golf Tournament. Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 28-August 18 Time: 4:30-6:00 pm Limit: 12 athletes Location: Terrace View Golf Course (19304 MN-22, Mankato, MN 56001) Equipment: LEEP has limited golf equipment available for athletes use. We are encouraging athletes to provide their own golf clubs when able. Please let us know if transportation or golf equipment is needed at time of registration. Cost: $60 for entire season (includes: all practice & Area Tournament fees) Practice transportation not included. Practice Transportation Cost: $85 one-way Home Transportation $110 with two-way transportation. 3 Special Olympics Bocce Ball Bocce is a game of skill and strategy, however anyone can play. The object is for one team to get as many of their balls closer to the pallina than the opposing team s closest ball. It is a fun game that doesn t require a lot of physical strength and LEEP provides all equipment necessary. The Como Zoo is one of the best zoos in all of Minnesota and is a great time for all ages! Don t forget to check out the Giraffes, Gorillas, Cougars, and so much more! 6 *Special events continued Saturday May 21- Canterbury Park Live Horse Races- Join us for an exciting day of live horse racing, poker, amazing food, and fun with great friends! Travel with us up to Canterbury Park for their second week of live horse racing! Before we bet on our favorite horses and win big we will grab a bite to eat in Shakopee. *Cost includes staffing, event and drop off transportation, and 1 meal. Bring additional funds for gambling. We will be bowling for 1 hour. Before we bowl we will dine on pizza and pop to build up our strength. *Cost includes staffing, 1 meal, 1 hour of bowling and bowling equipment. Come to LEEP to learn how to make amazing pizzas that will wow you and all your friends! We will be exploring how to make healthy pita pizzas, small create your own individual pizzas with a buffet of toppings, and a surprise dessert pizza for the final class. Check out nature with good friends and great conversation as we travel through one of Mankato s most beautiful Parks- Sibley Park!
