1 Patriot Times Red, White, & News! VOLUME 9, ISSUE 2 AUGUST 30, 2018 Changes around the school! This school year RLBMS sees many changes! Most of the changes have to do with scheduling. Firstly, we now have 43-minute classes all around! The school cut the usual 83-minute core English and math, and now we have 43- minute skill classes instead. You can even get different teachers for your skill classes! Secondly, Schoology replaced Livegrades for checking grades and messaging to teachers. Schoology has similar features to Facebook. You can even check everything in an app on your phone or tablet! Advisory has changed as well. We are now having a 30-minute advisory either before lunch or after lunch, depending on your grade level. Advisory will now have a physical day out of any week, and it is more like recess! The fifth grade schedule will be more like an elementary school schedule, meaning that all their core classes are in the morning and vocational classes in the afternoon. Lastly, all Spanish students will now have a teacher instead of a computer. The teacher is Mrs. Cutright. She is teaching 1A and 1B Spanish every day in the classroom behind the library.

In a large skillet, brown beef in butter. Transfer beef to slow-cooker with a slotted spoon. Stir flour into the pan drippings until blended; cook and stir until browned. Gradually add water. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for two minutes or until thickened. Add salt, parsley, celery seed, thyme and pepper; pour over beef. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.

5 P ATRIOT TIMES P AGE 5 Patriot Illustrated The RLBMS fall sports teams have started their seasons. The school gathered in the gym on Tuesday, August 28, for a pep rally. Mrs. Lambert introduced the players to the student body. Come cheer on the Patriots! Our school cheerleading team has now started practice. They are all talented in their own ways and can do many stunts, such as a heel stretch to the top, 360 s to the top, and they can even do extensions in their pyramid. The eighth grade cheerleaders are Emily Lybarger, Makayla Ferguson, Natalie Dean, Karri Richards, Sydney Slaughter, Alexis Murphy, Lauren Carpenter, Gracie Pettit, and Jenna Waugh. The new mystery teacher s favorite sports team is the Pittsburgh Penguins. Facts about Polar Bears by Morgan Robinson and Avery Lambert Polar bears are considered the only aquatic mammal. Less then two percent of polar bears hunts are successful. A polar bear s skin is jet black. Polar bears can swim for days at a time because of their paws. Polar bears can smell their prey from up to a kilometer away.
