2 THE PRESIDENT S BAT Welcome to the second edition of the Hawk Talk. I certainly hope that everyone is enjoying their season so far. For those Mums and Dads who have all those enthusiastic cricketers running into your bedroom in the wee hours of Saturday morning, ready for cricket, there is only one more early Saturday rise and then you can sleep-in and do all those other weekend jobs that get put on the backburner for a few months. The season has commenced with many outstanding personal and team performances. I certainly get a kick out of reading through the Sunday results and seeing how successful our club has been. Well done boys and girls! From speaking to coaches from all grades, I hear reports that the kids are truly enthusiastic and enjoying their Saturday morning. Not everyone is going to score a 50 or get a Hat Trick. Our aim is to have children play this game in the true spirit of sportsmanship. As parents, we have to remember that the behaviour we display is modelled by our offspring, so please make sure that our role is to support, not only our children, but those of the opposition teams. A reminder also that our club will be hosting the Under 12 Development Carnival, the Healy Cup, here at Brendale from 9th to 13 th January I will be at the grounds at Brendale each day and would appreciate any assistance from club members, especially if you have children involved in games at Brendale that day. Help is mainly required around lunch, 10.30am to 12.00pm. Games will also be played at Wantima and Albany Hills SS Many of our players only play the first half of the season as they have school cricket commitments in the new year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them and their coaches for their efforts thus far and wish them well with their cricket. We hope to have you back again next season. This means that we will have some vacancies in some teams especially in the U12 to U16 age groups so boys if you have mates who have heard of all your exploits and would like to have a go themselves, please contact Gary Logan, our Registrar and he can fill your teams. Over the Christmas break we have several boys who will be competing in Brisbane North Representative teams all over the state. I would like to wish them well and know that they will be great ambassadors for our club. Night Cricket for our U8 and U9 teams has been a huge success over the past few months. I know that the kids and the parents are really enjoying their nights out.. This venture wouldn t have been possible without the help of all our hard working committee people who have given up their Friday nights to help out. I would especially like to thank the Frazer, Chaffey and Mills families who have all helped out in the canteen and BBQ areas. As this is the last Newsletter before the Christmas break, on behalf of the committee, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very happy and safe Christmas and an enjoyable New Year. See you back on the 27th January, Steve Casey

Bradley showed the Reds how he could also manage a fine run-out and a nice delivery to bowl out a good batsman. Jesse chipped in with another great wicket deceiving the batsman and taking out his stumps. GAME REPORT:: The boys are starting to put some runs on the board with power hitters Luke and Mitchel putting on 31 between them. Sebastian continues to improve and had to bowl one of the extra overs due to Taylen missing in action due to other commitments. Sebastian showed great improvement in his bowling this week earning him the Man of the Match for the Blue Hawks. Man of the Match: Sebastian MATT SACHSE RIDAY 4/11/2011 FRIDAY Under 8 BLACK HAWKS 04/11/ st Innings Albany Creek Vs 16 Albany Creek Grey Hawks 44 Batting: Noah Traves 11 Ryan Traves 7 Alex Ferguson 7 Bowling: David Ratcliff 1/15 Lachlan Britcliffe 1/20 Fielding: Good work in the field against some excellent batting, with a total of 4 run outs 2 to Noah and 1 each to David and Alex. GAME REPORT: The batting this week was solid with only a few wickets falling, but runs were difficult to come by. Noah, Ryan and Alex top scored. The bowling was tidy but the Grey Hawks were able to hit the loose ball for a four. David and Lachlan each picked up a wicket bowled. RANDALL BRITCLIFFE

Adam and Declan batted very well. Declan s strong all round game secured him man of the match. Thanks to Francois and Clive on the night also. We only took one wicket tonight and that was a runout to Cambell. Feilding and backing was great well done boys. GAME REPORT: We missed Zach tonight less hope he is better for next week s game. Well boys once again you tried your best with what was on offer. Keep up the hard work and it will pay off in the long run. Hos batting is improving from week to week. The team s fielding is also starting to show signs of all that training with lots of excellent returns to the keeper. GAME REPORT: A great effort. The team has come a long way and improved out of sight since we played this team in the first round. MICHAEL JONES / PHIL SPORK

Excellent wicket keeping from Luke saved many runs. It was the first game for the Blue Hawks to bowl first and they enjoyed some good cricket, Mitchel and Sebastian doing well in the field. GAME REPORT: It was a great team effort on Friday night. Jesse again led the bowling proving to be a handful for the batsmen and congratulations to Taylen for taking his first ever wicket on his last ball. Bradley and Luke put some handy runs on the board as they tried valiantly to reign in the White s total. For a solid all round performance Luke Powell was named Man of the Match for the Blue Hawks. Man of the Match: Luke MATT SACHSE Under 9 RED HAWKS 04/11/ st Innings Albany Creek Vs 0/133 Albany Creek Black Hawks 6/134 Batting: Jye Stevens 27 Daniel Matheson 22 Deklan Fairlie 16 Bowling: Lachlan Milner 1/15 Deklan Fairlie 1/23 Fielding: Daniel Matheson, Deklan Fairlie Run Outs Man of the Match: Deklan Fairlie GAME REPORT: Wow what a match. The Blackhawks won the toss and chose to bat first on a wicket that proved to be a batsmans paradise. They set a challenging score of 134, however some masterful fielding (including a long range run out from Dan Matheson) saw them lose 6 wickets along the way. The Red Hawks though were up to the challenge. Some wonderful batting, including a Six each to Dan, Nick & Deklan, saw us get to 133 however, we did not lose a single wicket for the first time ever, which saw us come away with the win. Sensational Stuff! Coach GARY POULGRAIN

The first fifty of the season to Jack A and other good batting scores to Jack M, Codie, Zeke, Jaidyn, Jacques, Karan, Matthew, Bill and Ben. The boys bowled and fielded extremely well with Codie, Ben and Peter taking a lot of wickets between them. Some nice mudcake after the game courtesy of the Rathods celebrating Karan s birthday. Great bowling by Kevin rattled the opening batsmen and a steady fall of wickets saw the opposition all out within 35 overs. A 31 run p/ship between Keith and HP and a 67 run p/ship between Keith and Tony saw us win 1 st Innings after just 21 overs. A bold move by the captain brought a declaration. In the 2 nd Innings QUT fought back and they were 2/75 at stumps. Sensational bowling on the 2 nd day produced a steady flow of wickets, leaving 102 runs to chase. A shaky start and 3 early wickets brought maturity and experience to the crease. John and Craig had an 84 unbeaten p/ship that sealed the outright win. Scorer: EDDIE MILLS

Smart runout to Joel. Now we need to work on lifting the ground fielding to stop a few of the easy runs we gave away. GAME REPORT: The importance of keeping our wickets intact on the first day setup this week s win. Kyle, Jodie(9) and Joel all retired, meaning in a close game we had 5 more wickets intact at end of day 1. Josh smashed his way to a quick fire 31 and with help from Ethan (14) set a target to defend. Angus put a quick end to the opposition innings with his spin, and then everyone tried hard to secure the outright. The usual high standard of wicketkeeping from Darcy Herrman. GAME REPORT: After a first day washout Hawks batted first and attacked our bowlers. New player Charlie captured his first wicket while Luke and Lachlan pitched the ball up well. When it was our turn to bat the opposition bowled tightly. Carter played his finest innings and showed the way with his running between wickets. Brandon Morrall also ran well between wickets and will be a classy new addition to the team. Man Steve Morris

General all round great fielding with lots of chatter and encouragement from captain Darcy. GAME REPORT: Wilston opened the bowling with their tearaway representative quick hoping to make early inroads. They came up against stubborn resistance from Darcy and Hayden Macleod. After both boys retired not out more of the same came their way. 11 out of the 13 batsmen retired after their allotted 25 balls. Brandon was particularly classy with his running between wickets. Apart from a freakish innings of 81 from their previously mentioned quick the rest of their team succumbed to a committed bowling attack. GAME REPORT: Both teams were prepared to grind out the runs on an easy pitch and fast outfield. The pace of Brandon proved the difference as well as a cavalier attitude with the bat from Josh. Once again our team used the 50 overs wisely with many retired batsmen. Far too many wides were conceded though. (80+) Steve Morris

Strong batting performances from Lachlan (retired twice not out), Josiah, Asher (not out) and Stephan. Great bowling from Lincoln who took 3 wickets and just missed a hat trick. The boys looked like putting partnerships together and really tried to protect their wicket. The bowling and fielding efforts again were excellent with both Mitchell and Liam doing well with the ball. Aiden s wicket keeping is coming along nicely with three good catches. Two runouts to Connor one unassisted and one in combination with a throw from Harry. GAME REPORT: A disappointing result, making only 58 in our first innings. Highlights included a huge 6 backward of square from Casey and a gritty 13 by Justin. In our second innings we had 28 overs to bat out to avoid an outright loss, but things looked shaky after 7 overs when we were 4 down for 3 runs. However, a determined knock from Connor showed the value of his wicket and we managed to hang on to be 8/29 at the end of play. Not our best effort in the field, with not enough desperation shown to cut off the ball. GAME REPORT: We played at Bray Park, and the outfield was like grease lightning. We bowled first, and some of our bowling was a bit wayward, which allowed our opposition to plunder the boundaries, taking full advantage of the fast outfield. Ryan O, Alex and Jack all took 1 wicket each. They declared after 35 overs, and I believe they were confident in bowling us out twice to take the outright win. When we stepped up to bat, the boys took the challenge to our opposition. At the end of day 1, after 20 overs, we were well placed at 2/110. Jack retired at 20, Liam knocker off a quick-fire 58, and Finn and Conor were looking good. The aggressive batting continued on day 2, with Finn scoring 47 and Logan and Alex making good contributions. When the ball didn t make the boundary, the running between the wickets was sensational. We eventually fell 35 runs short, but the batting performance was something for the guys to be truly proud of. In the second innings, Ryan O and Flynn picked up 2 wickets each, and Logan picked up another one. Man of the Match Liam Usher 58 runs. Manager: COL OTTO

The positives though; Will kept well taking a catch and stumping, Ben made a one-handed catch look easy as well as a run-out, Rio also taking a run-out in the close of play. GAME REPORT: The boys bowled first, finding it very hard to take the first wicket as the opening pair put on 108 for the first wicket before Rio finally got the breakthrough taking the wickets of both the opening batsmen. As a 20 run partnership started to look dangerous, Stuey (2/17) and Jackson both took two wickets each in consecutive overs and then Ben taking a great run-out soon after to have Bald Hills 7/191. Another partnership looked to put Bald Hills on top, until Rio finished the innings, taking a run-out and taking to more wickets from bowling a great line. Sent into bat with only a few overs left in the first day, openers Stuey and Jackson did well to keep their wickets finishing 0/14 at the close of play. Day two we lost a few quick wickets but a solid captains knock from Will (29) put us back on track but after he was dismissed the boys were in trouble again at 4/74. Daniel Furby stepped up to the occasion, smashing 42 he was helped by Locky (21) and Sam (27). Two absentees on the second day was the difference when our last wicket fell at 8/204, the boys were disappointed only being 25 runs short of victory. Good bye to all the Half Season Players that are leaving us after their final game on the 3rd of December. GAME REPORT : This was a very good match after their bye fielding practice last week. The boys had too many sundries and if that had been different I think the match could have been different. Good catches took their good batters out quickly and stopping the 4 s made the score a little more respectful. The boys batted well and were close in their run chase especially when we were 3/14 after 5 overs. Good batting and running between wickets seen their sundries sore also. More fielding practice and bowling this week. Pine Rivers set us a healthy target to chase and unfortunately we had to bat two overs at the end of the day losing two quick wickets in the process. We never really recovered from that and we were bowled out the next day for a small total of 92. Pine Rivers enforced the follow on and our batting in the second innings was excellent with Lachlan leading from the front with an excellent knock of 54. Some great batting then made sure we didn t lose outright. Coach/Manager: AIDEN WORTH/RAY FRAZER

Their middle order started to swing the bat to post a respectable total. Highlights were Jack taking 2 wickets in 2 balls and 2 great outfield catches to James. Sirtaaj and Craig survived 4 overs at the end of the first day. Sirtaaj got the runs moving quickly on the second day, Justin and Phil then posted a quick partnership of 82, before a loose shot from Phil. Fighting stands of 46 and an unbroken last wicket partnership of 39 allowed us to move our score from very modest to defendable. Our aim was to make sure we batted out our overs and on that front we were successful. Still it would take a good bowling and fielding effort in week two to come away with the points. In week two we took advantage of early life in the pitch by bowling a high percentage of balls in areas that required the batsmen to play shots. Our fielding supported the bowling with seven catches taken including two beauties in the slips by Rob Hadden and Brendan Badenhorst. A two-wicket maiden from Rob just before the first drinks break left the opposition with much to do at 7/71. For the second time in the match the lower order batsmen showed patience and determination to inch their teams forward. The opposition s last wicket put on 37 to move to within 25 runs of our total, before a direct hit run out from Sean Hutton sealed the first innings win. Manager: JOHN MILNE

Some outstanding bowling and fielding really made it difficult for the opposition to score. Riley, Matthew H and Mitchell lead the bowling, but were well supported by Nathan, Lachlan, William, Matthew C and Jordon. The boys followed this up with some excellent batting where they went about building an innings and protecting their wickets, well done. Ferny enforced the follow-on, and the boys went in swinging. Austin s 47 off 40 balls included 10 fours, and Ethan Swan s 31 off 18 included three fours and two sixes. At stumps we were 4/133 although losing on first innings, a much better result than our last two games. Well done boys. Coach/Manager: PETER MCFARLANE / JOHN MCCABE

Will s keeping was also at its best. GAME REPORT: Playing the top of the ladder team, we won the toss and batted first. We failed to fire against a team who capitalized on every mistake, not playing the ball on its merit and throwing our wickets away, we collapsed to a disappointing 9/37 just before drinks. Once again Daniel Furby (30) teamed up with Sean (15*) to make a last wicket partnership of 49, giving us a fighting chance. Our opposition proved to be just as strong batting too, picking the gaps well and hitting easy boundaries, Sean getting the breakthrough with an inswinging Yorker then was given LBW. At the end of the day Sandgate- Redcliffe were 1/96. Strangely they declared at the start of the second day, losing a few early wickets again, Will (17) and Kaleb (11) put on a good partnership followed by a partnership between Locky (37*) and Sam (11) and then finishing strong with Rio smashing three 4 s off as many balls. Sandgate-Redcliffe needed 120 off 14 overs and started off strong before losing 5 wickets for 20 runs slumping to 5/78. As we finally got in a great position to take outright, we ran out of overs and the game came to a close. Great comeback boys, showed great spirit! GAME REPORT : Wantima what a batting field. Both teams batted well and runs were scored. We didn t get enough runs for the first innings and couldn t defend it. The boys fielded well and didn t waste any opportunities but there were not enough of them to take first innings. Good batting performances from Brendan, Andrew, Shane, Tom and Dom Barrett saw a lot of runs in the second innings and that gives us confidence for the one day match next week. The Falcon s bowled well but some lapses in the field saw Ferny build a large total on day one. Fortunately we didn t have to bat until the second day. Day two was a cooler day with the field slower due to overnight rain. The boys got off to a poor start losing two quick wickets but Nick, Darcy and Nathan put together some good partnerships with Darcy having to have to retire when on 40. Some good accurate bowling saw us lose quick wickets. Darcy come back to the crease in the 45 th over after the 9 th wicket was lost with Alec the not out batsman. They put on over 50 runs for the tenth wicket with Darcy amassing a total of 84 runs before finally falling in the 55 th over of the day (the last for the day and innings). A few more wickets were lost before Tom & Craig put on 48. Jack also contributed a run a ball 18. However, only 2 batsman faced more than 30 balls, so a lost opportunity to post a big score. Valley got to face 10 overs the first day and posted 40 without loss. The carnage continued on the 2 nd day. It looked like players were not switched on mis-fields and dropped catches, which cost us dearly. Coach/Manager: ROGER HALANGODA/RALPH SHAW

Run outs: Luke Whitney. GAME REPORT: Day One was all about partnerships. Firstly with the ball with a superb 12 overs of swing bowling by Brendan Badenhorst and Luke Whitney. During this spell we collected five wickets for only nine runs and the opposition was in deep trouble at 6/32. Then we saw a fighting batting comeback by the opposition with 70 runs added for the next wicket. You could add a third partnership to that when Connor Gentile and David Milne weathered seven overs at the end of the first day. They then continued on in day two to post a 50 run opening stand which setup our run chase nicely. As well as these good efforts, another highlight of the game was our catching which accounted for 12 of 17 wickets taken. In particular a spectacular one-handed overhead outfield effort by Lachlan Munro. We batted conservatively on a pitch in which runs were hard to come by, especially early on each day. After passing the target we declared and managed to collect some 2 nd innings wickets to pick up some valuable bonus points. All is setup for a top of the table Manager: JOHN MILNE
