Zumba classes for district staff will resume on September 25th at Middle School North gym. Tina Hooper, our instructor from last year, has agreed to teach again for the school year. Classes are free for district employees. The district is not able to provide child care. For the safety of the participants and for your children, please make alternate plans for your children. Classes MSN Gym To sign-up: Kelly.spencer@cps.k12.ar.us First Staff Wellness Competition to Launch September 17th Team Technology/ACE will defend its title in the second annual Staff Wellness Kickball Championship. At the request of participants who completed the survey at the end of the school year, teams will be divided into two categories: The Predator Division (competitive) and the Panther (non-competitive) Division. Divisions well be determined by the number of male participants or at the request of the team captain to move to a more competitive division. Also new, is a format that will involve pool play games to seed teams for bracket play. During pool play, teams will be assessed. If a team appears to be in the wrong division, the committee reserves the right to move a non-competitive group to the Predator s Division. 2 Page 2 FREE Fitness Classes for Staff Zumba Classes Healthy Panther Living Inspiration Run October 12th The Cabot Cruisers and the Cabot School District are partnering for the Annual Inspiration Run. This event is a fun way to promote fitness. Cruisers and district employees will run 26 miles in one day, making stops at each district building to promote fitness. This year s event will be held on October 12th. A group of Cabot School District employees have organized a running/ walking group for all levels. There will be a running coordinator and a walking coordinator each afternoon. This is open for males and females who want to learn how to run, improve endurance, or to improve health and fitness, as well as relieve stress with colleagues. There is no need to signup. Just show up at Central Office at 4:30 pm with your workout gear and running shoes on! The following is a recipe that participants followed to make a healthy snack: Trail Mix Granola Makes 5 cups Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 20 minutes INGREDIENTS 3 cups old-fashioned oats 1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut, optional 1/4 cup canola oil 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups add-ins* *Tip: For the add-ins, combine your favorite snacks. We love to use nuts, chocolate chips and dried fruit. Experiment with different combinations, like pistachios and cranberries or walnuts and figs. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 325 F. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, then set aside. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine oats and coconut. In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, honey, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and salt. Pour over the oat mixture, then toss to mix thoroughly. Spread granola on prepared baking sheet. Bake, stirring and tossing every 5 minutes, for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely. Transfer to a large mixing bowl, then stir in add-ins. Tip: If you re tight on time, purchase pre-made granola at your local grocery store. Choose one that contains ingredients your child likes from peanuts to banana chips, you re sure to find something your youngster will love! How to Make Ahead Bake granola, store in an airtight canister and use within 2 weeks, or divide evenly into re-sealable plastic bags and use them as needed in lunches or as an easy, on-the-go snack.
