Write checks payable to RSTSRC and also write your name & address on the check to ensure your payment is recorded properly. NOTE: Dues are $360 per year (or $90.00 per quarter: Jan-Apr-July-Oct). Payments must be received in the office by the 15th of the month/quarter or a $10 late fee will be added. If you paid $360 by January 15th, you will be allotted 12 FREE guest passes at the window. As a physical chemist by training, Ellen is curious about and exploring a wide range of recent discoveries in science. She will provide some basic information, facilitate a discussion among the attendees, and offer resources for further exploration. The topic for May is how habits form and how they can be changed. New information from behavioral science tells us that much of our life is lived on automatic because situations in our environment trigger behaviors that lead us through a familiar chain of steps to an end result; happy routines like brushing our teeth and disturbing habits like eating too many cookies. We also often want to create beneficial, new behaviors like beginning to exercise. Scientists are discovering that beginning or changing behaviors is better done by shifting the trigger and/or modifying the response rather than brute will power. This is a monthly offering with topics and information taken from Regina Leeds book, One Year to an Organized Life, supplemented with other materials. Participants do not need to purchase the book because Ellen will summarize the main points each month; provide printed, week-by-week guidance and tips for participants, and facilitate a discussion to elicit additional ideas from others as we all create more orderly and peaceful lives. Anderson/Teacher: Ellen moved from the east coast to the RSTSRC neighborhood in She is dedicated to soulful leadership, loving service, and empowered action. Formerly the Executive Director of a small nonprofit (The Center for Soulful Living) and previously with the Staff College at the Food and Drug Administration. She has an undergraduate degree in German and a graduate degree in physical chemistry. She has completed programs in business (focus on bookkeeping and accounting) and metaphysics (four-year program) and taught both subjects for several years. Ellen has volunteered in parent/teacher/student organizations (treasurer, secretary, co-president), in youth organizations; Boy Scouts (leader, committee chair, district commissioner); Camp Fire Girls and Boys (leader); and in spiritual organizations (project coordinator, treasurer, teacher), among other activities. 4 President s Message Anna Jarvis, founder of Mother s Day, would be proud know that what she started 100 years ago, is still going strong. Happy Mother s Day, to all Mothers in our Club on May 10 th. Please check out this web site for more information regarding Mother s Day: The Memorial Day Holiday All American Barbeque is back again by popular demand. All your favorite food will be served. The tri-tip sandwich will be tasty, as will the hot dogs and hamburgers. Please RSVP via at Fun@RanchosSantaTeresa.org to the club at least two weeks before Memorial Day. There is a change in the RSVP rules this year. Only sign up for those family members that are going to be present at the event. The staff has been instructed to only provide tickets to those who check-in. We need volunteers to help preparing this meal and clean-up, please call If you or your kids plan on taking a shower after swimming please make it a Short Shower. To encourage short showers the water temperature is going to be much cooler! We need to reduce our water usage. The Seasonal Guest Pass was expanded to 85 eligible participants. We budgeted for 50 Guest in April ($21,250); however we booked at least 80 Guest Pass ($34,000). This is good news! This additional income for the club should help off-set some dues re-occurring expenses and allow us to make improvements beyond Trower Projects. It is critical that dues are paid on time. Currently, there are 9 Members delinquent members over $ Their combined total is $9, Rather than sending past due accounts to our collections service we would like to work with you. It will save you money, save the club money and help to preserve your credit rating. The Office phone numbers is or come by and talk to either the Office Coordinator. The Friday Coffee Club Meetings are going well. We 10am- 12:30 am in the Lounge. So, come one, come all to the Friday Coffee Club Meetings at 10:00 am in the lounge. 5 Club Manager's Nuts & Bolts: Summer is almost here and the club is all ready for you to come down and cool off from the warm weather. Here are some important dates for your planning. Swim lessons start June 8th. The sessions run Monday through Friday one week and Monday through Thursday the second week. Sereana (Seti) is our new swim lesson coordinator this season. She has a lot of teaching experience and is excited to get your little ones water safe and swimming. If your children are already water safe and you re looking for something more advanced, no worries. We have instructors that can teach all levels from beginner to advanced. Pick up a swim lesson flyer with dates, times, and costs at the club office. Starting in May, we will be open on Fridays from 3:30pm to 7:00pm. Come down and have a BBQ and enjoy the pool but keep in mind the Sea Otters are still practicing during this time. The diving well and one lane will be open for free swim. The pool will continue to be open with the Saturday and Sunday hours of 12pm to 7pm. As usual, there will be a ten minute break on every hour. Starting on Monday, June 1 st, the pool will open on weekdays from 3:30pm to 7:00pm. On Saturday, May 16 th, the Sea Otters have their annual Donut Meet so we will open at 1:00pm that day and stay open till 8:00pm that evening. On Monday, May 25 th, we will have our Memorial Day BBQ celebration at the club. The pool hours will be from 12pm to 7pm. Lastly, please remember to cover the pools when you re done. 6 Looking for Swim Lessons? Whether you are a new swimmer, have some swimming experience, or just looking to improve your technique, Rancho is the place for you! We offer Starfish (Parent/Child)- Mommy & Me class Guppy (Non-Swimmer) - Becoming comfortable in the water with a floaty Minnow (Beginner)- Becoming comfortable swimming without support Jellyfish (Intermediate)- Learn all 4 strokes and how to dive Goldfish (Intermediate II)- Technique is perfected in diving and all 4 strokes Sea Otter (Advanced)- Building swimming endurance and learning flip-turns Each session consists of 9 lessons over a two week period- Monday through Friday the first week, and Monday through Thursday the second week. Our first session starts June 8 th - June 18 th. The second session is June 22 nd - July 2 nd. The third session is July 13 th - July 23 rd. Finally, the fourth session is July 27 th - August 6 th. The last day to sign up for swim lessons is the Friday before each session starts. A week before lessons start, the parent will receive a conformation phone call informing the parent of the lesson time, level, and instructor name. We also offer one-on-one Private Lessons with an instructor of your choice. 9 Sea Otter News Check us out at Sea Otter registration has officially closed, and our first few weeks of practice have run smoothly. The 2015 cabana swim season looks to be another successful one for the Sea Otters. The team has consistently grown in popularity and size since Coach Jerry Bozzo returned to coach his beloved Sea Otters. This season the team is the largest in Sea Otter history, with 224 swimmers making a splash in the pool. We hope you ll come cheer us on, as we will host 3 swim meets at the club this year: 6/6, 6/20 & 6/27.
