A great time was had by all! NOVEMBER EVENTS 19th ANNUAL JR. SATELLITE TOURNAMENT NOVEMBER 5, 6, 12, 13 - We hope all our newbie junior players have signed up for our Jr. Satellite Tournament November 5, 6, 12, 13. This is a great chance for players to gain some experience in competition, but even if you're not playing, come on out and watch. You'll enjoy the fun. WINE TASTING NOVEMBER 18 - Enjoy wines from around the world. Friday, Nov. 18th 7-9pm. Wine Sommelier Barb Lanni and Steve Spearman. Cost is $25pp. You and your guest will enjoy an intoxicatingly fun and informative evening as you learn about fine wines and wine regions around the world. We will be raffling off bottles of wine and special wine glasses, so come join the fun! We are limited to 25 participants. Sign up quickly at the front desk. This will be in front of the window looking out onto Court 6. There will be a bar with eight bar stools that will have great viewing of Court 6 and the golf course. This service bar will have draft beer on tap, bottled beer, wine, as well as fountain drinks, bottled water, Gatorade and nonalcoholic drinks of all kinds. We will sell upscale coffee like Starbucks and healthy drinks like smoothies and fresh orange juice and vegetable juice. We will offer HEALTHY items like smoothies to make up for offering draft beer and wine. You will also be able to purchase soups, salads, sandwiches, hamburgers, French fries, hot dogs, and a special every day. The food preparation will be done in the Grill located in the back of Courts 4 and 5, thus no food orders will permeate the lobby while you are enjoying a drink, after a big win on the court. We will have a refrigerator to keep salads and sandwiches after the Grill closes, thus people playing in the evening after the Grill closes will be able to buy a snack or beer or wine after they play. This is just a sample of what we will offer at the snack bar being built. We will also be offering sit down dinners for groups and the Grill will also prepare the food for all of our club events. I feel that the service bar being added to our new grill will be a major improvement to our ability to serve our members. My goal is to make the membership at LNRC more valuable and I feel this service bar will help to achieve this goal. I hope many of you share my enthusiasm for this new service bar in the lobby of LNRC. Let me know what you think. Cecil Spearman, ces@spearmanclubs.com CLUB SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS OCTOBER 8, 9 - Congrats to our Winners/Finalists: 5.0 Winner Eric Andersen/Finalist Matt Dubow; 4.5 Winner Bill McGraw/ Finalist Doug Todd; 4.0 Winner Andrew Brodrick/Finalist Cedric Lee; 3.5 Winner Randy Hierbaum/Finalist Paul Dubow. The Pro Futures was a big success and the play was as HOT as the weather was. We had some warm weather for the finals and the players didn t seem to mind as the on-court play was a very high level. The Singles was won by American, Dennis Kudla, who was seeded first. He moved through the draw without losing a set and with relative ease. His other finalist, another American from Hawaii, Dennis LaJola had an outstanding run, but came up a little short in the end. Both players are young and upcomers, as the winner Dennis is only 19 with a BIG future ahead of him. We will be following both of these of young players and the success ahead of them. I look forward to seeing how our college players are going to do this year. Joanna Smith is at Arizona State, Trevor Dell - UCSD, Jake Michaels - Cornell University, Averil Tomaiko - Cal State Fullerton, are the new incoming tennis players to their respective schools. They have started their regionals and from what I hear, they are all doing well. I will do a recap on all of our college players soon. Next month, I will do a full high school recap about what our local teams are doing. The year has gone by fast - let s end it with a lot of tennis and fitness. Lastly, I want to thank all the members who supported the Pro Futures and the young men fulfilling their dreams. We had members who housed them for the week and the rest who just supported the tournament. This is a great stepping stone for these players and we at LNRC and Spearman Clubs give them our full support. Happy Thanksgiving to all members at Spearman Clubs! CORNER GM The Thanksgiving season is upon us and that perfect time to gather with family, friends, and loved ones to enjoy the blessings we have. I know this holiday season is usually draped in wonderful traditions of good home cooked food, gathering around the flat screen TV for a great football game, and topping it off with warm pumpkin pie yum. Just remember to get that 20 minute workout in or a game of tennis to help keep those unwanted lbs stay off. We all seem to rush from place to place, commitment to commitment as the demands of work and family continue to expand. The first casualty of this hurried pace is often that me time. Finding time for oneself is more important than we imagine. We need time to recharge our batteries, work on different aspects of ourselves, and reconnect with those things and people that matter most. At LNRC our TEAM works hard to develop and deliver programs and services to enhance your life, teach you how to play tennis, improve your tennis game, get you involved in social activities, and keep you healthy with healthy living. There is always something for everyone and every ability to participate in here at LNRC / TCMB. Sandy Here comes the holidays, starting with Thanksgiving at the end of the month. Now is a great time to begin an exercise regime, if you haven t already started one. Did you know that the average person gains an extra pound during the holiday months? You may not think this is much, but if you don t do anything about it, it adds up. You can beat these odds by sneaking in some physical activity several times a week, or making small daily changes. Whether it s working out on the cardio machines, or playing a couple matches of tennis per week, you will be happy that you started now. Or even taking a brisk 30 minute walk each day will offset any overindulging that you may do during the coming months. Whether its tennis, cardio, weights or simply taking a walk, your body will thank you for it! Have a great month, and a happy Thanksgiving.

Sherie completed the Kona 70.3 race (1.3 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) in six hours 54 minutes in June Her goal was to complete the race in seven hours and have fun doing it. She raced in the San Diego Classic Olympic Triathlon, September 2010 in 3 hours 17 minutes. In 2011 she improved her time and finished the race in three hours five minutes. According to Sherie she is constantly finding little ways to improve her time and skills in the three disciplines involved in triathlons and looking forward to many more races, big and small! It was a treat for members to watch him train for a few hours on Mark s court. T*E*N*N*I*S MJTA offers high quality group tennis programming offering Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced lessons for children. Our monthly program provides group clinics, private lessons, & structured match play. Challenger Group - This program is for students ages 10 and up. Players get high intensity instruction, sports psychology, competitive training and fitness. The children who enter this program range from beginner to advance and show an interest in learning and competing in the sport. Mon, Wed, Thurs 5-7pm, Tue 4-6pm. Future Group - Students 12 and under learn the basics with shorter courts, rackets, nets and low compression balls. Mon, Wed, Thurs 4-5pm. Little Futures Group - For ages 5-6, the practice sessions for this group utilize a 36' court & play with 19", 21" or 23" racquets & foam or very low-compression balls. Fri 3:45-4:30 pm.
