2 N. Interstate 27 Lubbock, TX CORN Trials. Farmers may face many trials throughout the year, from weather events, to unexpected pests, even to policy and regulations impacting farms and farming practices. Texas Corn Producers, through Texas Corn Producers Board and Corn Producers Association of Texas, strives to lessen the burden of these trials on Texas farmers by equipping them with the knowledge they need to combat on- and offfarm issues, as well as advocating on the farmer s behalf so they can focus on the farm and its success. This book is a compilation of corn seed trial results from across the state, and highlights the progress made through continued research and advancing management practices. Working with the industry to provide this resource is just one of many ways TCP works on behalf of the state s farmers. The Board TCPB oversees and allocates the expenditures of the one cent per bushel corn checkoff toward corn research, education and promotion to further the corn industry in Texas, and to create better marketing opportunities for farmers. The Association CPAT is the advocacy arm of Texas corn producer representation on both state and national levels. CPAT s mission is to build a strong organizational support system for corn that will represent the interests and concerns of farmers from all regions of Texas. CPAT is the legislative voice for Texas corn farmers, presenting a unified voice in D.C. and Austin. It strives to bring supportive policy to farmers. Research Research funds are aimed at making Texas corn and silage production competitive in the market. Studies focus on issues such as drought-tolerant and disease-resistant varieties, GMO technology and refuge, pest management and distillers grains. Water resources and landowner rights remain prominent across the state, keeping research needs for drought-tolerant varieties and irrigation efficiency a priority. Additionally, TCP continues its efforts with the Aflatoxin Mitigation Center of Excellence in preventing health hazards and economic losses from aflatoxin. Education & Promotion TCP partners with the U.S. Grains Council and the National Corn Growers Association to develop and maintain market opportunities for Texas farmers through corn export markets, as well as ethanol and its co-products. Additionally, TCP works to ensure farmers have the latest information on research, practices and regulations impacting their farms. It is more important than ever that consumers, urban media and policy makers understand the importance of agriculture in their daily lives, as they are increasingly removed from the nation s agricultural roots. TCP participates in a number of educational programs at state and national levels, and works closely with key thought leaders in the state to make them aware of the importance of agriculture to the state s economy and consumers. These efforts help children, consumers, media and legislators understand agricultural practices and corn s value to them, regardless of their distance from the farm. TCP hosts a number of programs and events to meet these needs, including: LAND: Developing young farmers into future industry leaders CommonGround: Connecting farm women with food decision makers American Ethanol: Hosting an educational effort at Texas Motor Speedway in conjunction with NASCAR Much More: From youth education to farm shows and more, TCP is actively engaged with consumers, decision makers and farmers Political Advocacy With sprawling urban growth and an diminishing representation of rural areas, Texas corn farmers need a strong voice on Capitol Hill and in Austin now more than ever! CPAT is the farmer s advocate. Association membership, which is separate from checkoff funds, helps take the issues that affect your farm to legislative decision makers. CPAT is currently focused on a number of key issues, including advocacy for the next farm bill, state land rights and water issues, regulations, farm program and crop insurance implementation, mycotoxin mitigation and more. Its ultimate goal is to ensure supportive policy exists that allows corn farmers across the state to be profitable. Become a CPAT member today and support efforts that will have a significant impact on agricultural policy affecting the profitability and success of your farm. It s easy to join CPAT, simply register online at or complete the form at the back of this book. With your CPAT membership you will be eligible for a number of benefits, including FREE seed, farm business discounts, a host of corporate discounts, and much more! Your interests are important to us. If you have any concerns regarding issues affecting your corn farm business, please contact the Texas Corn Producers office at CORN (2676).
