UVA is averaging 7.8 runs per game, matching the 1982 and 2009 teams for fifth in the program s annals. simmons continues hot streak After a hot April, Cameron Simmons continued his solid work at the plate in the Miami series He currently is batting.385 (fourth in the ACC). He is batting.397 in ACC games, tops among UVA players and second in the ACC to Virginia s Tech s Tim Stoffel (.407). He is fifth in the ACC in on-base percentage (.469) and seventh in RBI (50). Simmons has recorded multi-hit games in six of hits last seven games and had a streak of eight straight multi-hit games earlier this year. mccarthy thrives in 2-hole Jake McCarthy batted a solid.291 in his first 25 games, but is batting.365 (fourth on team) in the last 26 contests. After batting in the 9-hole for 19 games, McCarthy moved back into the 2-slot five games ago and is batting.450 (9-20) with a pair of triples and a home run in that time. McCarthy is 26-for-28 in stolen bases this year, the thirdmost steals in one season at UVA and most since Smith & Haseley lead D1Baseball s top hitters list Pavin Smith and Adam Haseley were listed as the top two college hitters this week by D1Baseball.com. The list was compiled after polling scouts and coaches from across the nation. According to D1Baseball, the list is geared toward ranking the college hitters with the best pure hit tool on the scouting scale MLB scouts use to analyze these players for the upcoming draft. haseley continues strong Adam Haseley is putting up team highs in batting (.392), extra-base hits (27) and on base percentage (.485) while hitting in the 3-hole. He is on the John Olerud Two-Way Player Award, National Pitcher of the Year and Golden Spikes Award watch lists. Haseley owns a team-high 13 home runs seven of which have gone to the opposite field. He is tied for ninth in UVA single-season history in homers. He has reached base safely in 49 of his 50 games, including 32 straight (longest at UVA since Joe McCarthy reached in 36 straight in 2013). Haseley is tied for the ACC lead in runs (57), ranks second in batting and OBP, third in hits (76), slugging (.670) and total bases (130), seventh in home runs (13), ninth in RBI (48) and 10th in walks (35). He also is 7-1 with a 3.58 ERA in 65 1/3 innings on the mound. He is sixth in the ACC in wins and 15th in ERA. cavaliers mashing UVA has hit 53 home runs, which already is third most in the Brian O Connor era. UVA is 21-4 in his starts. In those starts, Knight has gone 29-for-77 (.377) with 18 RBI and 25 runs scored. His on-base percentage is.533 in his 25 starts. His four homers all have come in ACC games. He was inserted in the lineup as a defensive replacement in the first game against Duke. pavin smith: not your normal power hitter Pavin Smith has put up some big numbers this season, hitting for power as well as contact. Smith has more home runs (10) than strikeouts (8). 4 RECENT PROGRAM NOTES Virginia owns the most wins in the nation this decade (370). UVA has won 635 games since 2004 an average of more than 45 victories per season. UVA has four 50-win seasons: 2010 (51), 2011 (56), 2013 (50) and 2014 (53). UVA has recorded at least 38 wins each of the last 14 years, including win seasons. Every UVA recruiting class since that has completed its eligibility has played in at least one College World Series. THE TOURNAMENT STREAK Virginia has qualified for 13 straight NCAA tournaments, including four CWS trips and UVA s first national championship in UVA is one of five programs nationally to play in each tournament since 2004 and one of three to play in six of the last eight NCAA Super Regionals. Virginia is one of 16 schools in Division I history to have a streak of at least 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (17 occurrences). NCAA TOURNAMENT SUCCESS UVA has won 41 NCAA tournament games since 2009 second most in the nation in that span. Twelve of the 41 tournament wins since 2009 have come in the College World Series. Virginia has earned four national seeds in the NCAA Tournament, including the No. 1 overall seed in BRINGING HOME THE HARDWARE Virginia has made four College World Series appearances, including two trips to the CWS Finals.
