In the first four weeks of the ACC schedule, UVA played UNC and Clemson on the road and Louisville at home; each is currently ranked in the top five (UVA lost two of three games in each series). Virginia leads the ACC in batting at.326, with seven regulars hitting over.300. Two-way standout Adam Haseley is having an All-America caliber year, batting.396 with 12 homers, 10 doubles and 42 RBI, in addition to pitching on Sundays. Cleanup hitter Pavin Smith also has put up big numbers, batting.357 with 10 homers and 54 RBI. UVA has one of the nation s most aggressive offenses, and the Cavaliers strike out at a low rate, averaging just 3.7 strikeouts per game. UVA has more walks than strikeouts this year (178/159). Fifth-year catcher Robbie Coman is the veteran leadership presence on the team and the lone remaining Cavalier to have played in both the 2014 and 2015 CWS. The Cavaliers have picked up their running game this year, swiping an ACC-high 72 bases, including Jake Mc- Carthy s league-best 25 (most at UVA since 2008). UVA s rotation has been in flux throughout the season. Haseley is the only pitcher to start each of UVA s first 10 weekends. UVA inserted freshman Noah Murdock into the rotation for the UofL series. UVA is 15-2 in his starts. In those starts, Knight has gone 23-for-51 (.451) with 14 RBI and 17 runs scored. His on-base percentage is.592 in his 17 starts. His four homers all have come in ACC games. He was inserted in the lineup as a defensive replacement in the first game against Duke. simmons heats up Cameron Simmons has had a tremendous April, batting.458 (27-59) in 16 games. Simmons has upped his batting average to.374, which currently ranks sixth in the ACC. He also is batting.403 in ACC games, tops among UVA players and third best in the league. He had a career-high 12-game hit streak snapped April 19. He batted.500 (21-42) during that stretch. Simmons had his streak of seven straight multiple-hit games broken on April 18. No other UVA player has more than four straight multi-hit games this year. haseley continues strong Adam Haseley is putting up team highs in batting (.396), extra-base hits (23) and on base percentage (.495) while hitting in the 3-hole. He is on the John Olerud Two-Way Player Award, National Pitcher of the Year and Golden Spikes Award watch lists. Haseley also owns a team-high 12 home runs seven of which have gone to the opposite field. He is tied for ninth in UVA single-season history in homers. He ranks third in the ACC in batting and leads the conference in runs (52). He also is second in total bases (113) and OBP (.495), third in hits (65), fourth in slugging (.689) and walks (32), sixth in home runs and eighth in RBI (42). Haseley also is 6-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 60 1/3 innings on the mound. He is ninth in the ACC in innings and 14th in ERA. pavin smith: not your normal power hitter Pavin Smith has put up some big numbers in the first half of the season, hitting for power as well as contact. Smith ranks as the second toughest to strike out of any player in Division I, with six strikeouts in 168 official at bats (198 plate appearances). He is tied for 63rd nationally with 10 home runs. Only one other player among the top 75 nationally in home runs has 15 or fewer strikeouts UVA s Adam Haseley with 15. Doyle named to stopper of year watch list Junior right-hander Tommy Doyle was named to the midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List on Wednesday. Doyle is 1-1 with 11 saves in 17 outings this year. He is third in the ACC and eighth nationally in saves. Seven of his saves have come in ACC play. He has struck out 23 and walked four over 22 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. bettinger out of pen Senior right-hander Alec Bettinger has worn many hats during his career, working as a starter, reliever and closer. This year he primarily has worked as a long reliever. In nine of his 14 appearances this year, he has worked more than two innings, including each of his last five outings. 4 RECENT PROGRAM NOTES Virginia owns the most wins in the nation this decade (367). UVA has won 529 games since 2004 an average of more than 45 victories per season. UVA has four 50-win seasons: 2010 (51), 2011 (56), 2013 (50) and 2014 (53). UVA has recorded at least 38 wins each of the last 13 years, including win seasons. Every UVA recruiting class since that has completed its eligibility has played in at least one College World Series. THE TOURNAMENT STREAK Virginia has qualified for 13 straight NCAA tournaments, including four CWS trips and UVA s first national championship in UVA is one of five programs nationally to play in each tournament since 2004 and one of three to play in six of the last eight NCAA Super Regionals.
