Reigning Player of the Week Friday night s starting pitcher Derek Casey was named the ACC co-pitcher of the Week on Monday (April 9) after tossing a complete game shutout against Virginia Tech last Friday (April 6.) He is the first Cavalier to be recognized by the league this season and the first Virginia pitcher to take home the award since Connor Jones did it twice in Casey did not walk a batter and only one Hokie baserunner reached second base. First years Kyle Whitten and Blake Rohm pitched the final two innings of the contest, yielding a combined one run on two hits. On Wednesday Morris became the third Cavalier this season to put forth a four-hit effort in. He scored a game-high three runs and drove in 14th run of the season in the fourth inning. ACC Rankings The Cavaliers have only struck out 174 times as a collective offensive unit, the least in the ACC. Virginia is the only team in the league that has not struck out more than 200 times. Andy Weber is tied for the league lead in hits (50), second in batting average (.374), second in doubles (12), sixth in RBI (31) and seventh in slugging percentage (.560). Player Notes/Trends Andy Weber has reached base safely in 19-straight games, the second highest streak by a Cavalier this season (Eikhoff-21). He s been held hitless in just four games this year. In his last five games, Tanner Morris is batting.522 (12-for- 23) with nine runs scored. Brendan Rivoli is 7-for-15 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBIs in his last four games played. Cayman Richardson brings a career-high, eight-game hit streak into the series. He is batting.400 (12-for-36) with eight runs scored and five RBIs in that span. Nate Eikhoff, one of three Cavaliers to play and start in all 33 games, is six hits away from 100 for his career. Alex Tappen matched Andy Weber for the most RBIs in a single-game this season with five. Including the team s first grand slam of the season on Wednesday night against Radford, he has homered in back-to-back games. Flair for the Dramatic Virginia clinched its second ACC series of the season on Sunday with a 6-5, walk-off win against Virginia Tech. It marked the third time for the Cavaliers in that a conference series has been decided on the last at bat. Nine of the team s 19 wins on the season have been in comefrom-behind fashion, four in the seventh-inning or later. The Cavaliers have been involved in 12, one-run games in which they own a 7-5 record. SEASON STREAKS Nate Eikhoff had his hit streak of 16 games snapped on 3/24 at Miami. He is one of nine players since 2001 to have put together hit streaks of 16 or more. Eikhoff reached base in his first 21 games of the season Andy Weber continued a hit streak of four games started in 2017 and ran it all the way to 12 by hitting safely in his first eight games of. Tappen /11 Radford RETURN OF JACK WEILLER After seeing limited time as a freshman and missing the entire 2017 season with hip injury, Jack Weiller got his first collegiate start against Miami on Sunday, March 25. He recorded his first collegiate hit, a single through the left side in a midweek game against Longwood on March 27. Hall of Fame Company Derek Casey struck out a career-high 12 batters in back-to-back starts, the first Cavalier pitcher to record 12 or more strikeouts in consecutive starts since UVA Baseball Hall of Famer Danny Hultzen in Casey went on to strike out 10 or more in three-straight starts, also a feat accomplished by Hultzen in Hultzen went on to become the second overall pick in the 2011 draft of the Seattle Mariners and was inducted into the Inaugural UVA Baseball Hall of Fame this past January. First Hit, First hr Andrew Papantonis first hit of his career was a two-run home run into the left field bleachers at Disharoon Park against Davidson on March 6. No-Hit Recap Six pitchers, Bobby Nicholson, Blake Rohm, Grant Donahue, Riley Wilson, Mack Meyer and Bennett Sousa combined to pitch the sixth no-hitter in program history on Feb. 28,. Sousa was credited with the win after pitching the final 2.2 innings William & Mary scored three runs despite not recording a hit, one on a ground out in the top of the sixth and the game-tying run in the seventh. The Tribe took the lead after benefiting from three 11th inning Virginia errors. After scoring 35 runs in its two previous games, the Virginia offense was limited to eight hits and did not record an RBI in the contest.

Four of the six no-hitters in Virginia history have come in the Brian O Connor era (2004-present). The combined no-hitter is the first in Virginia history. 11 innings matched the longest no-hitter in NCAA Division I baseball since 2002, the other occurred on Feb. 28, 2015 when Lehigh blanked Iona, 2-0.
