UVA returns seven position starters from its squad, which went 38-22, including a mark in the ACC, which was good for a second-place finish in the Coastal Division. Sperling suffered an arm injury in his final start as a senior in high school and missed all of his freshman season at Virginia. Casey was injured while pitching on April 21, 2015, and sat out all of the season. Wilson battled shoulder problems over his first two seasons at UVA, but has returned to full strength. McCarthy (toe) and Coman (arm) each were injured in the first two weeks of the season. preseason polls Virginia is ranked as high as No. 16 in the preseason polls (Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball). Knight was the Spaulding NJCAA Division I Defensive Player of the Year and an ABCA awlings Gold Glove Award winner at catcher. Among the newcomers are two local products from St. Anne s Belfield School in Charlottesville outfielder Jalen arrison and pitcher Bobby Nicholson. Pinero is the first Virginia alum to play in the WBC, which began in 2006 and is in its fourth installment this year. 4 ECENT POGAM NOTES Virginia owns the most wins in the nation this decade (331). UVA has won 595 games since 2004 an average of more than 45 victories per season. UVA has four 50-win seasons: 2010 (51), 2011 (56), 2013 (50) and 2014 (53). UVA has recorded at least 38 wins each of the last 13 years, including win seasons. Every UVA recruiting class since that has completed its eligibility has played in at least one College World Series. TE TOUNAMENT STEAK Virginia has qualified for 13 straight NCAA tournaments, including four CWS trips and UVA s first national championship in UVA is one of five programs nationally to play in each tournament since 2004 and one of three to play in six of the last eight NCAA Super egionals. Virginia is one of 16 schools in Division I history to have a streak of at least 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (17 occurrences).
