This is the ninth game of the season between the two teams. Iowa is in second in the American Northern Division, 6.0 games behind Oklahoma City. FASTER THAN SOUND: Iowa fought off yet another late Nashville rally to defeat the Sounds 6-5 last night at Principal Park. John Andreoli smacked a lead-off home run for Iowa to set the tone. Rubi Silva also homered and Javy Baez had three hits and two RBI to back Cubs starter Eric Jokisch. Jokisch tossed his third quality start, allowing one earned run on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings to earn the win. Iowa s big inning came in the sixth when it scored four runs on three hits, two walks and five stolen bases, a season-high. Righty Gonzalez Germen notched his first save. MOVIN ON UP: With yesterday s win, the I-Cubs moved into sole possession of second place in the American Northern Division. At 18-17, the Cubs are 6.0 games back of Oklahoma City, and over the.500 mark for the first time since being 4-3 on April 16. It is also the first time Iowa has been in second place all alone this season. Iowa has been in third place on all but two days this season. The I-Cubs are currently on a season-high three-game winning streak for the third time this season. LONG JOHN: John Andreoli s lead-off home run last night was the first lead-off home run for Iowa since Ryan Kalish did it May 30, 2014 at Memphis. It was also just Andreoli s fourth career home run, and his first since July 27, Andreoli hasn t had to rely much on the long ball to be effective, however. He currently leads the team in runs (21), hits (27), doubles (7), triples (3), total bases (43), walks (18), stolen bases (15) and on-base percentage (.414). Andreoli s 15 steals are also good for second in the PCL. He is fourth in the league in OBP. GOING FOR QUALITY: Iowa had just four quality starts in 18 April games. So far in May, the Cubs have spun nine in 15 contests, including left-hander Eric Jokisch s last night. Righty Donn Roach leads the team with six quality starts. Jokisch has three. Left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada and right-hander Carlos Pimentel each have two quality starts.
