KNUCKLEBALLER AMONG NEW FACES The Rays have recalled C Curt Casali and RH Ryan Garton from Triple-A Durham and selected the contract of RH Eddie Gamboa as rosters expanded when Gamboa becomes the second knuckleball pitcher in Rays history, joining RH Dennis Springer, who in 1998 appeared in 29 games including the franchise s inaugural game when he threw 3 scoreless innings of relief he will wear No. 59 after Wednesday s game in Boston, INF Tim Beckham was optioned to Durham. RAY MATTER The Rays were off yesterday, and starting tonight they play 17 consecutive days and 30 games in 31 days to finish the season on Wed at BOS they lost an 8-6 rubber match, despite leading 4-1 earlier in the game, to finish a 2-4 road trip (1-2 at HOU, 1-2 at BOS) they missed a chance for their first road series win since July at COL (2-1) the Rays have won 14 of their last 21 home games, going 7-3 (Aug 15-25) and 6-4 (July 27 Aug 5) over the last two homestands their only two winning homestands of the season overall, they have won 10 of their last 17 games (since Aug 14).
