NEXT GAME Tuesday, April Auburn, 7:30 p.m. ET WRAS-FM 88.5 beginning at 7 p.m. PROBABLE STARTERS THE FIRST PITCH Georgia State returns to the road and CAA play at Towson for a three-game series in Baltimore, Md. this weekend. Just as the Panthers will open up with their first two conference series on the road, so has Towson, starting CAA play 2-4, standing 5-20 overall, but having played only two home games. This will mark the fourth consecutive weekend that the Panthers have been on the road, but that has not necessarily been a bad thing. Georgia State has taken two-of-three in each series, including the CAA opening series with Old Dominion last weekend. Beginning next week, State will play three of the next four weekends at home. The Panthers come into the weekend, riding high on momentum. Last Sunday, State trailed 10-5 to Old Dominion with just six outs to play. While sophomore Justin Malone, who was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List prior to the start of the season quieted the Monarch bats, the Panthers own bats came alive for five runs in the eighth and six runs in the ninth for a victory. Malone earned his second win of the season, after converting his first save of the year on Saturday. Junior David Buchanan was named CAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon by the conference office. Buchanan opened CAA play for State with a 2-1 win against Old Dominion on Saturday. The Peachtree City native struck out 12, walking none and not allowing a run until the ninth inning. Buchanan marks the third Panther to receive a CAA award this season. Senior Bradley Logan enters the weekend having reached safely in 41 straight games, dating back to May 1st of last year, just a week before the Panthers last faced the Tigers. The Panthers will be sad to see March go. The 14 wins compiled during the month were the most wins the Panthers have ever recorded in a single month, surpassing the 13 games Georgia State won last May. Pos # Name... Ht...Wt.... Cl. THE CENTURY MARK Head coach Greg Frady reached the 100-win plateau at Georgia State during the March 6th doubleheader against North Carolina Central. It took the fewest games of any coach in Panther history to reach that feat. Frady enters this week s games and only trails Mike Hurst, who finished his Panther tenure in 2006 with 293 career victories for the most victories in school history. Frady is just one win shy of the 300th of his coaching career. ON THE VERGE OF HISTORY Senior Bradley Logan is becoming one of the statistically greatest student-athletes in Georgia State history. Logan, who has been a starter since stepping on campus in the fall of 2006, has the chance to graduate in May with ten career records, not to mention standing in the top 10 in several single season categories. Among those is the singleseason hits record which he set in 2008 with 85. He already owns the career hit by pitch record with 31 and took over the runs scored record on March 6th against NCCU. Against New Mexico State, he moved to the top of the list in RBIs and sacrifice flies. Below are some of the career records he is chasing this year entering this weekend: Category...Total...Currently... Dating back to May 1st of last season, Logan has reached safely in 41 straight games after walking in the first inning against Georgia Tech on Tuesday. Included in that stretch of games is two hit by pitches that kept the streak alive. YOUR HONOR, YOUR HONOR Several Panthers have been named to some of the most prestigious lists in the country already this season. Sophomore Justin Malone, who was named to a pair of freshman all-america list last year, was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Watch List earlier this season. He led the Panthers with seven saves during the 2009 season. Junior Carter Sackett was named to the Coleman Company Johnny Bench Award Watch List as one of the top catchers in the country. It marked the third year in a row that a Panther has been named to the preseason list. Senior Carl Moniz was recently named to the Brooks Wallace Preseason Watch List as one of the top shortstops in the country. Moniz marks the third player in the last three years to be named to the list. Bradley Logan earned the honor in 2009, while Jean- Michel Rochon-Salvas was named to the list in NO SOUP RATHER RUNS FOR YOU Sophomore Justin Malone has become known simply as The Closer around Georgia State baseball. Malone was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Watch List after earning a pair of freshman all-america honors during his freshman season. Last weekend, Malone dominated Old Dominion, earning a win and a save. On Friday night, he came in with one out and a runner on first in the bottom of the ninth

He followed on Sunday, going 3.1 innings to allow the Panthers to rally with 11 runs over the last two innings to earn a win and the series against the Monarchs. He finally allowed a run this season against New Mexico State, after throwing 11.1 innings of scoreless relief. He had not allowed a run dating back to April 11th of last season. His stretch of 21.0 scoreless innings set a new school record, surpassing David Hawkin s 2002 total of 15.2 scoreless innings. This season, he is 2-0 with a save, throwing 18.1 innings and holding opponents to a.154 batting average, to go along with 17 strikeouts. He leads the team with 11 appearances and has a 2.95 ERA. Last season he led the bullpen to a school record 19 saves, seven of which he recorded himself. In the CAA Championship, Malone earned a pair of saves and a win, earning all-tournament honors. It helped the Panthers finish the year 32-1 when leading after 8 innings. The team is 9-2 when leading after eight innings this season, with another four games being called after seven innings by the NCAA Sportsmanship Policy that the Panthers were leading. OH WHAT A MONTH The Panthers were red-hot in the month of March, going 14-6, though ironically losing the first and last games of the month. The 14 wins were the most the Panthers have ever recorded in a single month, surpassing the 13 games Georgia State won last May. AND THE OSCAR GOES TO... Who knew the Academy Awards were a multiple-day affair. After the Oscars were handed out on March 7th, junior Mark Micowski scored the collegiate baseball version of an Oscar with a handful of national honors on March 8th and 9th: NCBWA National Player of the Week CAA Player of the Week College Baseball Foundation National All-Star Line-up CollegeBaseballInsider.com Northeast Region National Player of the Week Micowski led the Panthers to a 4-1 week, batting.636 (14-for-22), with 14 runs scored, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 27 total bases, five doubles, one triple, a slugging percentage,.679 on base percentage and a pair of steals to go along with several school records. In game one of the series with North Carolina Central, the Haddam, Conn. native, hit for the cycle in the first four innings, finishing the game 7-for-8 with four runs scored and seven RBIs. He set a school record for at bats with eight, as well as hits with seven. He helped the team break the school runs record of 32 (which was broken again in the series finale on Sunday), as the team set records for doubles, hits, at bats, RBIs and triples. He tied the school record with three doubles and 15 total bases. During the doubleheader on March 6th, he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in game one. In the series finale, he set the GSU runs scored record with six, going 2-for-5 at the plate. He helped the Panthers score a school-record 103 runs on the weekend in the fourgame series with the Eagles. AND THE OSCAR FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR... Redshirt-sophomore Joey Wood followed the lead of his teammate Mark Micowski by earning CAA Player of the Week last week. Wood had a stellar week at the plate, batting.640 (16-for-25) with 29 total bases for a slugging percentage last week. He belted three home runs and had 14 RBIs, leading the Panthers to a 4-1 week, including a series victory at New Mexico State, the farthest west the Panthers have ever traveled. He scored 12 times to go along with four doubles, a walk, three hit by pitches and a.667 on base percentage. He also added in a sacrifice fly. He started the week going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the Panthers 13-6 win over UNC Asheville. On Wednesday, he went 4-for-6 with a run scored and three RBIs as the Panthers swept the Bulldogs, After going 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs in the opener against New Mexico

4 Georgia State Baseball Notes, Page 4 State, a 13-2 Panther victory, the redshirt-sophomore went 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs in Georgia State s tough loss to the Aggies on Saturday. He concluded the week with a 5-for-7 performance with six runs scored and six RBIs in the series finale, a Panther victory on Sunday. Wood belted two home runs, including a grand slam as Georgia State tied an NCAA record with three grand slams in the game. His six runs scored tied the school record set just over a week ago. BUCHANAN S OPENING ACT Junior David Buchanan opened CAA play last Saturday with a stellar pitching performance that earned him CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. The Peachtree City native pitched 8.1 innings and did not allow a run until the ninth inning of Georgia State s 2-1 win over Old Dominion. Buchanan struck out 12, while not walking a single batter. He struck out the side in order in both the first and sixth innings. The win helped the Panthers win the series, which could be pivotal to making the CAA Championship in May. A RECORD NUMBER OF RECORDS For the second straight season, it appears as though the Georgia State baseball team is attempting to re-write the record books. Last season, the team set or tied 22 records. Already the season, the Panthers have broken an old record 23 times and will surely add on to that list as the season continues. Here is a look at that list: Team Records Broke: Runs: 33 vs. N.C. Central on 3/7 32 vs. N.C. Central on 3/5 30 at New Mexico State on 3/14 27 vs. Alabama State on 3/23 24 vs. N.C. Rivals.com named Ryan Moore the Best Starting Pitcher in the CAA after predicting the Panthers to finish third in the conference. Collegiate Baseball Today named head coach Greg Frady the Hot Coach in the league and the Panthers series with Florida State earlier this year the third best non-conference series in the CAA this season. SEBaseball. com also named the Panthers pitching staff the second best in the CAA, while the outfield was ranked the third best. The website also listed David Buchanan and Ryan Moore as the top 1-2 Punch in the conference, with Buchanan and Mark Micowski being named the top two newcomers in the CAA. The site concluded, If the new guys are as good as advertised, the Panthers can continue their trend of improving every season. SEBASEBALL.COM NON-BIG THREE TOP 25 Rank School 1. Louisville (1) 2. Buchanan was listed as the top newcomer in the CAA with Micowski being named the fifth best newcomer. Buchanan was also listed as the #3 top prospect in the CAA in the 2010 MLB draft. IT MUST BE AN ELECTION YEAR Georgia State finished the 2009 season receiving votes in several polls and started the 2010 season the same way. The Panthers were receiving votes in Collegiate Baseball s Preseason Fabulous 40 Poll to start the season. SEBaseball.com had the Panthers ranked 16th in its Non-Big Three Top 25 Poll (that excluded the SEC, ACC and Conference USA) to open the season. The only schools ranked ahead of Georgia State from the CAA are UNC Wilmington (11th) and James Madison (8th). SEBaseball also had the Panthers ranked 42nd in the southeast, stating: The Panthers lost a lot from last year s NCAA Regional Club, but their newcomers make this team their most talented yet. OH CANADA For more than a decade, the Georgia State baseball program has always seemed to have a little bit of a Canadian feel to it and this season is no different. Senior Carl Moniz (Laval, Quebec) is the lone returnee, however, he is joined by fellow Canadians Bryan Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) and Ryan Fleming (Whitby, Ontario) on the team this season. Moniz has earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canada honorable mention honors in each of the last two seasons. Last season, Marc Mimeault (Candiac, Quebec) finished his career as one of the most storied players in the history of the program. Mimeault finished his career with a school-record career.364 batting average, after belting 14 home runs during his senior year and being named to the All-Canada First Team. Paul Schlosser was one of the first Canadians to receive recognition at Georgia State, earning 2000 All-Canadian First Team honors as well. Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas, who graduated in 2008, holds several all-time records in the Georgia State history book. The Canadian connection is helping the Panthers to a lot of wins this season. Moniz is batting.420 with a.617 slugging percentage, while Fleming currently is hitting.453 with eight home runs and a team-leading 41 RBIs. He belted grand slams in back-to-back games against North Carolina Central the first weekend of March. against VCU, earning the win after allowing just two earned runs and striking out 10. For his effort, he earned CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. He is 2-1 this season and has struck out 21 in just 24.1 innings pitched. Along with Justin Malone, he threw the Panthers first shutout of the 2010 season, a 14-0 blanking of North Carolina Central on March 6th. TEAM OF THE YEAR For the first time in school history, Georgia State was honored as Georgia Dugout 2009 Team of the Year at the club s annual banquet several weeks ago. Ironically, the host of the event was Tommy Barber, a Georgia State baseball graduate from the 1970 s and supporter of Panther baseball. ON DECK Georgia State returns to the road and heads north to Baltimore to face Towson this weekend. The two teams will open the series at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday contests. AS M.C. The native of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, spent the first three-fourths of the season in the Georgia State bullpen. However, Francis was moved into the Friday night starting role with about two weeks to go in the regular season and flourished. He made his best start of the season last week, going 6.0 innings in the Panthers 14-4 win over Austin Peay. Francis allowed seven hits and two runs, while striking out three for the victory. The first Friday night Francis pitched, he went 8 2/3 innings
